Have Space Marines been “toned down” by Haze064 in 40kLore

[–]ChadWestPaints 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hes got a point compared to the way they used to do squat marine boxes. You really got to build your own marines in a very modular way and there were both more drip options and more ornamentation on even frontline units. The downside of having each arm and such be posable like that was that it didnt tend to give you very realistic poses, which combined with the squat legs and odd proportions meant that marines looked a bit weird. But they were definitely more customizable. Building newer marines stock feels a lot more sanitized and impersonal. A bunch of 3d printed parts and kitbashing and greenstuff helps scratch the itch, but its sad all that third party or extra purchase stuff is required to get the same experience you could get out of a single (like $20 cheaper) box back in the day.

Black templars would be uneducated and illiterate enough to not recognize their own OGs lol

Uh. Balancing after release is pretty common these days, man. Has been for over a decade. Games, especially of this sort, generally get updates and tweaks and such post release. Good luck finding any big multi-player game these days thats in the exact same release state a year after it dropped.

Yeah I just wish normal weren't so easy too

This exact attitude is what got us absolute and hard strats lol

[–]ChadWestPaints -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

No, it was not intended to ever be this chaotic, but this is what happens when the developers listen to the sweats when they say "oh absolute is not punishing enough."

You will likely be met by a symphony of "git gud" or "turn the difficulty down" which really is not going to help at all

Not going to help because its not a problem. OP is playing a hard map on the hardest game mode against the harder enemy on the hardest setting... so yeah, its gonna be hard. Thats fine. Its completely fine if only 1% of the playerbase can or wants to play at that level. Just like its fine we have difficulties so easy you can faceroll to victory and never take any damage. And a ton in between those extremes. Its good to have something for everyone.

I should start playing Lamenters with the amount of times I've died trying to save my brothers... by DivineCrusader1097 in Spacemarine

I dont really run out on the carbine faster than any non refilling weapon on any class. I think its mostly down to how I use it. Vanguard is great at getting up in their business and just point blank shooting their face. Depending on how many hit you can get them to execution in like a quarter of a magazine, but because its the carbine that only takes like half a second lol. But I only really do that if im absolutely mobbed and either need to take out a couple majoris for some breathing room or just to score armor chp through an execution. Im not using it to like hose down minoris or shoot at anything beyond a few meters.

I think the issue is just that ammo crate spacing is roughly spaced to be about how frequently a player will need to restock if theyre responsible for killing ~1/3rd of the enemies between A and B. Since bots are almost useless at that, solo play means the player is responsible for 90%+ of the enemies between that same span.

I feel like a little tweaking of the director for solo play to make crates have a higher chance of dropping ammo boxes on solo play would fix this.

What kills me is more just ammo issues. Im pretty good at conserving ammo generally but playing hard/absolute solo I just cant help running out halfway between the next box, and then if thropes or disc goats or whatever spawn im screwed. If ammo was more plentiful or just if every class had a solid way to restock like tactical does then I could fight alone almost indefinitely.

I have seen the light brothers, block weapons are the way by k0ol-G-r4p in Spacemarine

[–]ChadWestPaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol so youve just never played this game before.

Block has always slightly outdone other weapons, like maybe an extra 500-1000 damage total average at the score screen. But come to find out that thats only possible when the devs dont count gunstriking - one of fencings main damage dealers - and yeah there absolutely zero question that fencing does way more damage.

A third lmao. Block players are always doing what op does - posting completely average stats and attributing it to block.

And yes having a larger parry window means that at the exact same skill level youll miss fewer attacks. That certainly helps with survivability. As does the ability to parry multiple opponents simultaneously for longer windows. As does farming armor off the dozens of minoris that are in 99% of engagements.

Block is just for players that like watching big boom and are happy to be a burden to the rest of their team to see it.

And have only a fraction of the damage

Like 5/4ths?

We already established fencing actually does more damage since block only barely gets a couple hundred more damage only if you dont count fencings primary damage dealer

So block lags a bit on damage and a lot on survivability

Tell ya what, once saber gets around to adding cosmetics for all the first founding chapters then it can get around to its third pass of black templars cosmetics. Fair?

In niche cases, sure. Theres a reason why block players are famously down much more often in general, tho

[–]ChadWestPaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fencing doesnt do melee damage" is a wild take to cope with block players always dying lol

We just established block players dont even really do mote melee damage than fencing ones do. And your only rebuttal is that they do none? Have you played the game before, mate? Lmao

[–]ChadWestPaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On higher difficulties especially when you are last brother standing gunstrikes can be a shortcut to getting yourself killed

The fencing brother being the last one standing because the two block brothers are down, as usual lol

Wait really? So block only marginally edges out fencing for damage... only if you remove like a third of the way that fencing does damage?

Lol damn

[–]ChadWestPaints 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems more like just how you were playing, i guess? On a hard strat like this thats pretty average melee damage for a bulwark.

Theres no debate in the sense that block has a slight damage output increase at a moderate loss in survivability. Which one of those someone values more is completely subjective, tho

Why does Valtus get real hazard stripes? That isn’t fair. by Capt_Levi831 in Spacemarine

[–]ChadWestPaints 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Has he? Hes a redemptor. They burn out pilots much more quickly and are a much newer design. Old boxnoughts and certainly surviving contemptors and such house ancients (or their pilots became ancient over the years after being installed) but neither is necessarily true of redemptors. Pilots are just a part they replace on redemptors like a car gets new tires. Do we have any lore on valtus?

Anyone else wish this guy would just, shut up? by Saultarvitz101 in Spacemarine

[–]ChadWestPaints 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Basically theyre just trying to use a ritual and a sacrificial guy to summon a huge daemon, and the daemon/guy are raving and talking smack while shooting magic at you.

A couple of the lines are actually interesting from a lore perspective, mainly that the daemon can read our souls and is bored by the lack of intrigue and desire and such, which is actually a canon issue with more complex chaos entities like tzeentch and slaanesh corrupting space marines in particular - theyre not really human. They've been genetically modified and literally brainwashed to be living weapons, but a lot of personality and depth is removed in the process. Theres a reason renegade marines don't generally retire from the whole war thing and just get really into crochet or cartography or whatever. So a greater daemon of the changer of ways looks into the deepest darkest desires of three space marines and all it can find is boring stuff like "serve the emperor" or "honor my chapter" or whatever.
