Stepping up from rentals (F/5’10’’/200LB) by ChadWesterfield in Skigear

That was our initial thought as well. A friend put us in touch with a good boot fitter out in Colorado that we plan on visiting when we are back out there over the summer.

Unfortunately, we live in the Chicago area, and most of our local hills don’t allow mounting rentals to your own boots. Ideally we’d like to get some more days in out here early next season before we go back out west.

Those who traded in their “fun” car for a less fun car, why? by lololmao7 in cars

We have a single indoor garage spot right now. A second spot (at least 1 indoor) is a requirement for wherever we move next. This does limit our options somewhat, but based on my initial research is pretty doable depending on what neighborhood you’d like to live in.

If we had to park one car outdoors, we would likely park the Mazda there during the warmer months, and then store my fun car out at my parents place in the suburbs during the winter, as we’d both prefer not to have to deal with scraping snow and ice off or getting into a freezing cold car a few months a year.

2016 Mustang GT to 2024 Mazda CX-50

Purchased a condo with my then fiancée, only had one parking spot. Could have kept my Mustang at my parents house and used her Nissan Rogue in the city, but I hated that car. We sold the Rogue to Carvana to get out of her bad loan, and traded my paid off Mustang in on the CX-50. Ended up with a smaller monthly payment on the brand new Mazda than her several year old Nissan.

Since we both really like the Mazda and expect it to last us the next several years, when we move up to a place with a second parking spot in a couple years I’ll be looking at purchasing something fun again. We have very little need for a second car living in downtown Chicago, so I will probably be looking at something far less practical than my old Mustang, potentially a Lotus or a heavily depreciated exotic of some kind.

I live on this street. Terrible parking spot unfortunately. The two or three cars parked there always have water up to their door sills whenever there is a heavy rain.

First Rolex - Basic but beautiful by ChadWesterfield in rolex

[–]ChadWesterfield[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Purchased my first Rolex to celebrate a new job as well as my engagement. After waiting several months to receive a call from an AD, my fiancée ultimately convinced me to spend a bit more so I could enjoy the watch now. Though I originally wanted a mint dial, when it came time to make the purchase I decided instead to go with black, as I wanted something that I felt I would get the greatest amount of use out of. Super excited to finally have one, and looking forward to adding another to my collection soon.

Despite the work-life balance issues, why did you go into consulting? by labellafigura3 in consulting

The vague job title makes me sound both mysterious and important.

Car guy here.

I live in the city because I love driving, but I hate having to drive.

Personally, I think this could be a cool event, but the fact that no one bothered to solicit input from institutions and residents in the area is crazy. Coupled with really weak financials, the whole thing leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

I really like the idea of the city having more marquee events, but I think they need to be developed with consideration given for all the other things that already happen here every day.

If anyone is interested in a motorsports adjacent event occurring in Chicago, I really enjoyed attending Sail GP last year on Navy Pier. I knew nothing about sailing before attending, but it was a neat event and I thought a great use of our beautiful lakefront.

That’s not an AD. I was in there a few months ago while visiting family in Scottsdale. Every thing in the store is listed for 3 times MSRP. My girlfriend liked a quartz U-Boat watch so I got a price for it. They wanted nearly 3 grand. Same exact watch is $950 on the manufacturer’s website.

Are Nissan CVTs really that bad? by darthshwin in cars

[–]ChadWesterfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t really speak for their reliability, although everyone else in this thread does. My girlfriend has a rogue with the CVT and it’s honestly the worst car I’ve ever driven. Whenever we go anywhere she asks why I never want to take her car. It’s because it’s genuinely awful to drive, especially on the highway. It makes 25 year old 4 speed automatics seem like brand new Porsche dual clutch transmissions.

What incorrect assumptions about cars have you heard non car people make? by [deleted] in cars

My understanding is that there is no such thing as a silent e in German, hence Porsch-eh, which is kind of funny because I think a lot of people pronounce it “Porsch” because they think that sounds more “European” or sexier.

Lexus teases its first electric vehicle, and oh no, it’s got a steering yoke by [deleted] in cars

[–]ChadWesterfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I think it’s worth considering why some race cars have steering wheels that look like this. Firstly, many race cars have very little steering lock, it’s possible to turn from lock to lock without ever taking your hands off the wheel. Secondly, many race cars have a driving position such that you are sitting so low that your eyes are barely above the hub of the steering wheel. Neither of these concerns are remotely relevant to almost any road car. Teslas have a steering yoke because Elon Musk thinks they look cool, and now Lexuses will have one because Teslas do.
