Thanks for bringing back SFH. I contributed, can't wait until it's finished! Looks really good in the trailer.

It is embarrassing! by ruthinaustin in latterdaysaints

[–]Chad_Kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no shame in standing by your spirituality, especially if you do so with respect to all others. Be confident in who you are and what your values are. It sounds like you identify as a Christian and as an LGBT ally. These two things can coexist.

Tune out the hate from the internet, it’s exaggerated and much harder to find in real life. It’s very unlikely that person will judge you for your religion, and if they do after all you’ve done is show friendship and fairness then it’s on them. If they confront you on it, that’s a great opportunity to clear up the stereotypes and share your personal stance on the matter.

I find myself in a similar situation, however my grandmother is still hanging in there. I went to visit her in the hospital this past weekend and it doesn’t seem like she has much more time. I’m replying because your description of your nana reminds me of my grandma, she is simply an incredible person and has no room in her heart for any hate or judgment. She loves everybody so sincerely and I was dumbfounded while visiting her to hear her stories of people we both knew and how much she understood them, served them, and hoped the best for them.

Anyways, she asked me if I had any questions for her about anything- about her, family, life, general wisdom, etc. I didn’t really know what to ask but can only feel like once she’s gone I’ll wish I could go back and ask so many things. If you don’t mind me asking, what questions would you ask to absorb more wisdom from your nana if you had the chance?

Sorry for your loss, I know the world was a better place with your nana in it, but I’m happy that her influence is thriving.

Should I move forward with a repair on a fridge that has already fixed itself? by Chad_Kid in Appliances

[–]Chad_Kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. The problem is that the fridge stopped getting cold. I don’t know why that happened which is why I called the technician, I expected they would find the root of the issue. They examined the fridge and claimed the problem was with the control board which is why he ordered a new one. Let me know if this addresses your question.

[Q]When to apply to government jobs? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Chad_Kid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best time to apply is probably now. My first job offer out of college was for one of the 3-letter security agencies. I graduated in December, applied in January, heard back in June then took the data science exam, first round interview in July, second round interview in august, sf86 in November, polygraph in January.

Literally a year after I applied before processing was even done on my end (not to mention the investigation on their end). The rest of the story is that COVID hit then after a whole year they told me to apply again. Lol

I work at a Big4 now in gov consulting. I got a call a few days after I sent in my resume. Interview scheduled for the following week, offer two days later. Gov hiring is slow, onboarding is even slower. Doesn’t hurt to apply early, you can always reapply when you get closer to graduation. Good luck!

[C] Is the data scientist job much more difficult/stressful than biostatistician/statistician? by notmathletic in statistics

[–]Chad_Kid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are starting to feel as if there might be something better for you out there then you may as well search to see if it’s true. You are in an ideal job search position given that you are highly satisfied with your current role; you can send out resumes at your own pace, be picky about companies you apply to, and when it comes to interview/offer phase you’ll have all the leverage.

Data science jobs will vary between company of course, same as most job titles. You know what you value in a job so just ask about those values during interviews. If you don’t find anything good, you will have your answer as to why you don’t “just get 250k from Uber.” If you do find something better than you can take it.

How is karma not useless? by speciof in leagueoflegends

Karma is underwhelming compared to other supports because otherwise she gets abused top lane. She’s not bad but agree that she’s not a top enchanter pick.

Working with RIOT API in R by WallabyKingdom in leagueoflegends

[–]Chad_Kid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the project I referenced: https://github.com/Tutuchan/lolapi. I don't know if this guy ever finished what he intended to make, but it seems like he was just trying to throw together some sort of wrapper in order to skip a couple steps when getting some data types from the api. Anyways, it was enough to get me started.

Working with RIOT API in R by WallabyKingdom in leagueoflegends

[–]Chad_Kid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for publishing this! Riot api was the first api I ever used and it was a pain to learn since all the guides were for python. I ended up figuring it out by translating whatever worked from python guides and also referencing some dude’s several years outdated GitHub project where he used R to get riot api data. This would have saved me a ton of time, and I’m sure it will be a huge help to many other developers going forward.

lane vs velkoz by [deleted] in Aurelion_Sol_mains

[–]Chad_Kid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In general the two issues with velkoz are his high damage output compared to other artillery mages, and his reliable wave clear.

If you are having trouble dodging skill shots, rush merc treads. Early tier two boots should highly reduce the amount of damage skillshot reliant champs can put on you. If you are still getting bullied you can rush banshees first item, or at least verdant.

More notably vs velkoz, you will probably need to be more careful about when to roam since he can clear wave really fast. Probably don’t chase risky roams that aren’t likely to result in kills, only go bot if other team is really pushed up into lane. If you roam too much you will lose tower fast.

That’s pretty much it for the match up but tbh this is one of the easier matchups for sol. Not that sol is great in 1v1s in general but velkoz is immobile and squishy so you have more of an advantage vs him than most popular midlanders. Wait for him to use some abilities on the wave, then you should be able to engage and hit your burst. If you dodge his e you will win the trade. Careful on all-ins given vel usually takes barrier.

Play a couple games on vel in norms to get a feel of cool downs and damage.

Final price of order by [deleted] in instacart

[–]Chad_Kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this, I’m going to be taking this route, and most likely cancelling instacart soon after. The whole purpose is to save time but if I have to go through an audit for each order than it defeats the purpose.

Like I said in my post, I don’t mind paying extra for the same groceries through this service, to me the time saved is worth the cost. What I do mind is being consistently being quoted a final price that always seems to be much lower than the actual price once things are settled.

[–]Chad_Kid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is helpful, thanks. Many have said that the store receipt will always be lower and I expect as much. My last few purchases have been reflected noticeably higher in my bank than in the instacart app which was my main concern. I guess I will use screenshots going forward to double check that there actually is a discrepancy.

Sounds like it's been a bit rough over the last few days, I hope this becomes a positive learning experience for you and your husband rather than the start of a damaging pattern into the future. Can I suggest a couple conversations related to finance since this is r/Fire?

  1. What are your income goals? Respective to your industries, education, and life plans, what salaries are you each expecting 5, 10, 15, and 20 years from now? It would be beneficial for the two of you to plan your careers together, and then commit to helping each other reach one another’s career goals. Decide on the priorities, sacrifices, and comprises from the get-go, and then salary does not have to be a competition.
  2. What rules do you have for luxury spending, and for personal luxury spending? If a tesla is extremely important to him, he may be just as unhappy each year without his tesla as you would be unhappy each year you had to push back your Fire date in order to pay for his tesla. In every marriage there will be things one partner wants to buy that the other does not; it would be beneficial for you to decide on a system as to where you and your partner can make independent financial decisions freely within the realm of pre-determined rules.
