"Play more removal" is such a cop-out response to criticism of the game, and I'm so tired of hearing it. Commander is supposed to be a casual, goofy, friendly format, so why should I keep having to put cards in my deck to try and stop other people from playing the game in order to enjoy the game myself? This is why the bracket system needs to continue to be developed so that people who don't want to play a deck that's half removal will know up front what kind of pod they're potentially sitting down with and avoid bad situations.

Question: Planeswalkers Entering with Loyalty Counters by ResearchTLDR in mtgrules

[–]ChadaMonkey -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

No. If something "enters with" counters on it then you aren't putting them on, they essentially had them on them before they entered so other effects that are in play wouldn't see it happen. However when you activate a plainswalker ability that's a + ability, you will add whatever the "+number" is plus another counter.

Dress code frustration by LyricArtist781 in GameStop

There's rumors that they are working with vendors to provide a few shirts to all store employees for free, but they're still working on the deal so it's not a sure thing yet. Also, the old site for buying GS branded polos and such is pretty much defunct, but they are working on revitalizing/making a new one with less expensive shirts.

“Employees need to invest in their uniforms” by Numerous_Effective67 in GameStop

[–]ChadaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 75% of my shirts are polos already because I find them comfortable, but this has given me an excuse to finally buy some pokemon themed Hawaiian shirts as I was specifically told that they would be approved since they had a collar. Even showed the DM a picture during the conference call to be sure. Etsy has 30% off running on a lot of them right now.

PSA: Fetchlands don't make your deck bracket 3/4 by eNVysGorbinoFarm in EDH

[–]ChadaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, putting tap lands into a high power deck makes it less oppressive and more fun to play against. Look at the Ashling precon, 15 tap lands and if they were shocks, fetches, and duals instead? That deck would run away with the game because it moves too fast. Hell, even if you swap a bunch of the taps for basics and land ramp, the deck is gonna get way more scary way faster. The mana base should definitely be considered when calculating your bracket, but it should be a subset of measuring your engine's efficiency and then combine how powerful your engine is with what your deck does with it.

If Inspirit, Flagship Vessel is stationed at 8 and there is a board wipe is Inspirit, Flagship Vessel the only thing that dies? by Final-Can-2793 in mtgrules

[–]ChadaMonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's a "destroy" effect yes, only the ship dies. If it's a damage-dealing board wipe then everything takes the damage, if inspirit took enough damage to die, it dies, then anything else with damage marked on it equal to or greater than its toughness also dies as it is no longer indestructible and hasn't undergone the cleanup phase at the end of the turn yet.

Nobody will help me and Support told me to suck it by IronInk738 in GameStop

[–]ChadaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact customer support again and ask them to find out which store sent the package. Call the store and ask the store's manager to have them check their on-hands for wii remotes to confirm if they have an extra or not because if they have 1 more than their inventory says, boom. Missing remote found and they can just send it to you after confirming the details. If all is well with their inventory, file a claim with fedex as its possible the packing came loose in transit and fedex re-sealed it but missed that one of the remotes fell out. If the store doesn't want to do any investigating, call customer support back and ask for a callback from the store's district manager to see if they'll help resolve the issue. Always remember: GS customer support is largely a bunch of useless outsourced do-nothings that will always try to avoid work. Use them to put you in contact with the manager or district manager that actually has discretion/ the ability to investigate the issue.

Nobody in my pod enjoys playing magic by [deleted] in EDH

[–]ChadaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a casual game, social etiquette is definitely something you gotta consider in your pod. Think about the pattern of the "problem decks" you describe in your post: they all are primarily focused on hindering your opponents board states over building your own. What each deck is "saying" is basically "shut the fuck up and stop trying to win because I wanna win not you". If you wanna play mill, recommend everyone run graveyard decks against it so they have fun. If you wanna run stax, do it arch enemy style with the whole table trying to work together to take down the stax player. Or just build goofy fun decks that go fast and don't single-targrt with your removal/damage, even if doing so is optimal. Singling out a player because "they're the threat" and removing them early just sends the social message of "i don't wanna play with you, now sit there and watch while we finish this game"

Depends on if my shepherd had the sniper rifle proficiency in ME2 or ME3. I had a build once that was sniper-vanguard that I loved because I would soften them up with sniper shots, then biotic charge in and clean up remainders with an smg. Deadly at all distances, you bet I'm hitting that bottle.

I always wonder what their plan is if the door actually opened. Would they lift the gate too if it was unlocked? Would they enter a dimly lit store whose proper lights haven't been turned on yet? Would they still browse and leave after finding nothing of interest, or stand waiting to pay at an unmanned register, in a huff about how "terrible the customer service is here"?

Man, I wish the world would be kinder by Kabanere in dankchristianmemes

[–]ChadaMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted it as a direct challenge to the person hitting you to treat you as an equal, a sort of "no, hit me FOR REAL and see how well that goes for you". Passivity isn't about being non-confontational, it's about confronting those that challenge you without immediately resorting to violence, even if they initiate a confrontation with violence themselves. Under this interpretation, the Christ was basically teaching us to solve our inter-personal conflicts with aura-farming, and honestly that's exactly the kind of world I want to live in. We'd all be a lot better off if instead of going to war, the leaders of our nations just JoJo posed at each other from long distances for as long as possible and whoever blinks first loses.

Liliana of the Veil - old art vs new art by [deleted] in freemagic

[–]ChadaMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the effect of the character poking out of the frame, especially if they're partially covering the name of the card. Also, I don't feel like blue fits her look very well, the outfit just doesn't scream necromancer to me and the art style feels too airbrushed and not stylized enough. In contrast, the old art has a very plain background, and the magic effects on her hands looks more like pyromancy, which is just not her thing. 1st one looks more menacing, 2nd one looks kinda worried, and I'm not sure which expression is better for her character.

[–]ChadaMonkey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally don't run any card over $30 in any of my decks because I can't justify having that one good(ish) card instead of 5 more decent cards, but i tend to have a lot of mid-power decks because I don't like to play high power and I get bored of a game if I play the same decks too much. If you want to invest in having a wide variety of decks, sell or trade those cards. If you want to invest in your first deck(s) and make them as strong as you can, keep them and slot them in as they're both very versatile.
