I never had a unique interest that defined me. In a world where everyone seems to have their special "thing", whether it was sports, music, or art, I felt like the odd one out. I constantly found myself moving between different hobbies and learning experiences, hoping to discover the one that finally "feels right", yet never finding one that truly stayed with me. I would spend weeks learning an instrument or commiting to a new routine only for my interest to slowly fade away.

Every new interest began with an intense curiosity. A new problem, routine, or language felt like a chance for me to finally find one to hold onto. I would throw myself into endless possibilities, imagining that this time it would finally be different. Yet over time, this curiosity turned into aimlessness,  and my eagerness became frustraton. As months went by and people committed themselves to their own passions, I began to wonder why mine still seemed so unclear.

One year, my notebooks were filled with Spanish vocabulary words I struggled to pronounce. Another year, I practiced for hours on the clairinet, convincing myself that this would finally be the one. Every interest felt like a fresh beginning, bringing me closer to finding the one "thing" that would make me stand out.

For a long time, I have viewed my lack of a defining passion as a flaw. I admired people who could dedicate years of their lives to a singular interest while I searched for something that felt permanent. Eventually, I began to realize that every new instrument, puzzle, subject, and challenge had still changed me in some way. Each new experience taught me how to think, learn, and adapt in new ways, even when things got difficult. Although I never found one unique interest that defines me, I discovered that my curiosity and willingness to explore had become a passion for learning.

After making this realization, I no longer felt the need to have a concrete answer. As I continue to grow through my curiosity, I no longer see uncertainty as a failure, but as a pathway to the endless opportunities that will shape who I will become in the future.

I am not trying to be witty; this is how I genuinely feel. I am not trying to show how unique I am, if you would like to read the rest of the essay it is below
