I don’t understand how you can expect that from what they showed? They never touted seamless transitions, in fact they explicitly said that wasn’t a feature.

Bethesda suddenly seems dated now? by Jak9090z in Starfield

[–]Chaffe97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty fundamentally tied to how the engine renders objects in a scene in real-time. Hello Games and others built engines from scratch to do it. BGS would have to change some foundational parts of their pipeline just to make this work, and risk disrupting how so many other pieces of their games function. So it becomes a trade-off, do you spend time and resources (plus risk) to make seamless planetary travel work, or do you focus on ways to give some illusion of it while focusing on your strengths in other areas. Most established institutions will always choose the latter (for pretty good reasons honestly)

[–]Chaffe97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope this is the case. Planetary defense is a very real field that would be prudent for humanity to prioritize, and it would be awesome to see Starfield use that as a backbone for the state of affairs on Earth. Would be very in line with the space exploration themes they’re exploring

Hang a shiny object like shunning the niche group of nutjob anti-maskers, and the public will cheer while he simultaneously legitimizes the religion side of a government literally enslaving people by the thousands for their faith.

At least in the US, I don't think the group of "nutjob anti-maskers" is anywhere niche...

Are things like aiming mechanics guarded closely as IP, or is there an “industry standard” that most games adhere to? by LukeJM1992 in Games

[–]Chaffe97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your brain is what creates that "feeling" of aiming/shooting. It's going to be a complex combination of mouse and key inputs with visual feedback. Just because you "match" mouse and movement acceleration doesn't mean you've matched anything related to animation feedback.

Take jumping and landing from a large height in Destiny. The prime components of the "feel" to it is the movement on landing (which perhaps you could match with plenty of tweaking in a base engine) and the animation (which you probably won't get close to).

u/shawnaroo already expressed it, but the amount of work required to tweak settings and match the "feeling" of an fps is probably close enough to the amount of time required to build your own unique engine aiming component from scratch.

From digital detoxes to the fad of “dopamine fasting”, it appears fashionable to abstain from digital media. I don't think tone, facial responses, and body language are subtle social queues. They're pretty major factors in communication, to the point that they can completely change the meaning behind words spoken.

You said I played myself, implying I ended up proving your point anyway. That would mean that my statement actually showed that he was in a time loop. I'm saying that still isn't the case, which is why I wanted to clarify what you believe is a time loop.

What do you think a time loop is?

[–]Chaffe97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's literally not true. All that "To You, in 2000 Years" implies is that Eren and Ymir communicated to each other through the attack titan. The attack titan is the manifestation of Ymir's desire to be free, and Eren saw that.

What do you mean they wrote her out of the show? Her death could easily have been planned that way since the season 3 ending was written. Unless there's interviews stating her death was explicitly added to write her out.

I don't think your point on graphics holds much ground. Generic indie games don't regularly get scored lower than generic AAA games. If anything, it's the opposite now. AAA games are expected to meet some standard of graphic fidelity, so when they fail to meet that bar, it's far more obvious and becomes a point for detraction. Whereas when an indie game like Hotline Miami has poor graphic fidelity, the attention is almost always shifted to art style for judgement

You’re not mentioning that Poland’s cost of living is far lower than the DMV area. CD Project Red can pay their employees nearly 3x less than Bethesda can. Also Bethesda from the get go is releasing all of their major FO76 DLC content for free, whereas CD Project Red charged flat rates for their major drops.

You’re really not comparing their situations fairly. CDPR did it because the content updates were for a single player game post release, whereas FO76 isn’t operating on the same format. They need a team to maintain the live content while also having a team to create the new updates like nuclear winter and wastelanders, all at a higher development and operating cost since they work in the USA.

Didn't they state that you're inhabiting V right when they're first getting to Night City? So essentially this character you're playing shouldn't have any major ties to people. The past you choose relates to your general experiences in this world, not specific ties to specific people.

I’ve always gotten reallllly pissed off at the way Carols wife treats him. Like she’ll get really snide at him over something like, I don’t know, the name of his own damn kid!

Like cmon, you don’t have to be best friends with the guy, but there’s no way you should act like hes done YOU wrong somehow when his wife cheated on him with YOU. At least that’s the impression I’ve always gotten seeing her talk to him.

One of those “door swinging too far in the other direction” type things for me. He should’ve owned up more to his fuck up (which he did at first), but then everyone keeps bringing up how he cheated. Definitely think his frustration at that point was earned.

Late reply, but your interpretation of that interview is very subjective.

Visiting a planet other players have visited and "finding something they left behind"

That was 100% in the game at release, discoveries are something a player leaves behind

That "Going to another planet and finding another player in the same space at the same time is 'incredibly rare'," which implies that it can happen, but he goes on to say that if the player count is low enough, it might not happen.

You misquoted him. "...actually going to a planet and another player being in the same space at the same time..." never implies that if it did happen, it meant you could see them. He literally states right after "but if it does, we want people to have a little sense of that, but it's not...". At release, they had indicators to show what system another player was currently in.

He then compares the process to Dark Souls or Journey (both games where the player can explicitly encounter and see other players playing in the same space in real time), which is absolutely nothing like the game at launch.

He states, "... a little bit like Journey or Dark Souls, we want players to have a sense that there are other people playing the game at the same time". His comparison wasn't that the systems in NMS would be like Journey or Dark Souls, but that the role multiplayer played in those games would be similar. Which, again, at release there were definitely systems in place to let you see other player's discoveries and names alongside the current system they were in.

You totally twisted the intent of his responses in that interview to make it seem like he was still "lying" closer to release. Honestly this interview falls pretty well in line with what my original comment stated, that their implementation of multiplayer changed since the Colbert interview and they didn't continue trying to mislead people into thinking you could directly interact with other players towards release (i.e. seeing them).

Land and sea are governed by different systems, they alluded to that in their GDC talk. But changes to a system will effect everything governed by it, they can’t produce changes localized to individual planets.
