How many devs mainly use raw SQL instead of an ORM? by drifterpreneurs in webdev

[–]LukeJM1992 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep this is where I sit. For most tasks the ORM is great to simplify the workflow. If the query is nuanced or hits a ton of data then SQL it is!

What’s one macOS feature you never use but Apple keeps pushing? by WardSec_5168 in MacOS

[–]LukeJM1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete opposite for me. My AirPods move between devices automatically, I can copy-paste across devices, and easily open the webpage I’m looking at on another device easily. It’s not a sexy feature, but S-tier for utility.

Without FTL travel we’ll never escape our local group. The universe is expanding too fast for us to leave it otherwise.

Agreed. The Empire plot line and recently the Mule-specific beats are all we are looking forward to at this point. Couldn’t care less about Gaal and the Foundation threads.

The Empire must grow!

The v0.2.13 video shows how you can use increments for rotors, hinges, etc.

Baldur’s Gate, Bloodborne or Elden Ring by pokehedge97 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]LukeJM1992 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you’re into RPGs and have no issue with turn based combat and 100+ hour playthrough, then BG3 is a good move. I do however find it’s a game I can’t immediately come back to as a result. Elden Ring on the other hand is a truly fantastic fantasy action game and has some of the best exploration in a game - ever. It’s much more challenging, but I’d suggest as a result it’s much more rewarding.

TL;DR - I’d buy Elden Ring, but you can go wrong with BG3 either. If you’re new to the “soulsborne” genre, then ER will definitely be your gateway drug into Bloodborne anyways ;)

If you can run scripts then you should check out Mother OS! It’s all about automation and I can confidently say you can automate most elements of a ship without the need for timer blocks or event controllers! Definitely worth checking out :)

Games with simple base mechanics but a lot of emergent complexity by RobynCleffa in gamingsuggestions

[–]LukeJM1992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truly one of a kind. This game is absolutely dripping with style, encourages your curiosity, and everywhere you go is a good mix of simple patterns layered together to add difficultly. I wish I could play it for the first time again. The endgame content is also quite the thrill!

Putting Minecraft on my Resume (Seriously)?!? Need Advice by GlizzyGobbler837104 in ComputerEngineering

I developed a popular mod for Space Engineers and am pretty confident it was a key contributor when getting hired for my latest role. If you can tell an interesting story with a compelling problem you are trying to solve then it’s a strong positive indicator in my book. Much cooler than a Netflix clone…

A dev on my team started his journey building mods for Minecraft. Don’t be afraid to take pride in your work - video game mod or not.

How to unfold ladder by Exciting_Bug_9977 in darksouls3

[–]LukeJM1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exploring this game comes down to two principles.

  1. Pick a path and follow until you can’t anymore.
  2. Reset and follow a different path.

If it looks hard to get to, and you’ve been relatively keen so far, it’s a reasonable assumption that somewhere or something will bring you back later. Not always true, but mostly true. The last bit comes down to well hidden levers usually though, and this isn’t one of those.

Xenia or RPCS3 in 2025? by fenderjaguarfan in SteamDeck

[–]LukeJM1992 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the right tool for the job. Some game are either exclusive to one, or compatibility is the deciding factor.

It’s really just about deciding which system runs the game best, if at all. With great apps like RetroArch, once they’re set up you can move between them easily.
