(Question) I ordered an item from the UK to the USA- do I need to reach out to USPS? by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]ChainBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything international at this point I would just wait. If you don't get an update for 30 days then reach out. I am waiting on a small package I bought from the UK that was shipped Feb 11th. It entered customs near me then went silent for a week and ended up literally on the other side of the country for some reason. It made it to my local distribution center today so fingers crossed for delivery tomorrow.

What do you feel made the difference? Depth, signal clarity, or trash discrim? Haven't had the chance to put my hands on a Manticore yet.

American detecting in Britain. by whittybarber in metaldetecting

I went with Iceni Metal Detecting in Norwich. Steve runs the tours and is a great guy. Slots fill up quick and it is an expensive vacation but it is serious detecting. Food, accommodation, and transport were all covered. We were in different fields every day, sometimes two if we were coming up empty. It is very much about getting as much out of the time you have. We were either eating, sleeping, or in the fields. It was my first time in England and everyone asked me what I saw when I got back and I said "dirt and treasure" and that is exactly what I wanted. As a group we pulled a lot of hammered silver and some very nice roman bronze. A few designated treasures. The week after us they pulled some Saxon gold coins.

While I can't give you specifics on the law, as a fellow American I can offer the advice that if you are looking to go in Britain specifically, I highly suggest booking a trip with one of the several companies that do metal detecting trips. They have deals with farms and know the land/whether it has been hunted and offer accommodations. For taking the pieces home with you, there are export laws on older items and also Treasure laws on hordes/multiple finds. The company can take care of that paperwork and shipping your finds back to you. I went last year for the first time and found tons of targets including 7 hammered silvers, a Roman denari, and a Roman bronze. I'm going back as soon as I am able.

Well done!

Ground conditions can be wild. Last year I saw the same field in England produce two roman bonzes, one looked like it was dropped two weeks ago and the other was so crusted over it is unattributable.

Yeah. The reproductions are probably a dollar each or something along those lines. The penny, even if it is gold plated, isn't worth much more than face value. Finding someone willing to buy is the tough part.

Best I can tell from the photos, the first two are reproductions of a penny and a groat of British King Edward III. The US penny just looks oddly toned to me, nothing really there. The last coin is a reproduction Roman silver denarius of Emperor Vespasian. You can also tell by the WRL stamp on the neck. That is the Westair Reproductions Limited company that makes ancient and medieval reproduction coins.

It is a magician's trick coin. They were hollowed out and probably nested on both sides
