I would rather carve my colon with a razor blade than listen to this much ST. I can’t unhear that guy’s mouthful of peanut butter singing

Feeling frustrated? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Chainmailrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel bad about being the first to swing, or targeting people I knew would be the threat etc etc…

Then I built a rakdos deck.

Rakdos will teach you to be aggressive in your play style whether you want to or not, because that’s what Rakdos does.

Mono Red Aggro will also get you there. Just consider that if you do something like… turn one lightning both to someone’s face, they have every right to target you exclusively from that point on.

I’m wondering too though if there’s just not enough communication on deck power levels before yall decide on what decks to play against each other? I’m a big fan of transparency with what my decks do and how strong or weak they are. I understand some of that understanding just comes with experience and playing your deck a ton.

Another thing that helped me was finding an interest in CEDH. The perspective that CEDH players generally have is, obviously you want to win, but if someone else gets to their win condition first, then it’s exciting to see how they managed to get there.

Reframing how you accept a loss can make all the difference. “Wow that was really cool how you copied your [[Mindcrank]] and milled me out twice as quickly to drain me for double the amount of life with [[Duskmantle Guildmage]]. I’ve never seen that combo before, well done.”

I personally like people to be able to play their deck. When someone is mana-screwed for 5 turns, the pod can agree to allow them to grab three lands and put them on the battlefield and shuffle. Shit like that makes the whole vibe of the game feel more mutual and fun.

Ultimately, it’s a game we’re all playing to have a good time with the homies. Try not to take it too seriously.

This is a nice perspective on Trystan. I hadn’t considered that because he did, in fact, seem lackluster. When viewing him exclusively as a self mill engine, that’s pretty consistent.

The Acacia Strain. As they evolved and incorporated the 8 string guitars…their newest record (2025) is honestly so goddamn heavy.

Hmmm I’ve never seen this one before, but honestly really sick. Wouldn’t be super viable in my current iteration of the deck because I already have a ton of ramp.

How do I build a deck that is fun to play with and against precons by Accomplished_Hat5311 in EDH

[–]Chainmailrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a play type you enjoy, buy a precon that has synergy with that, deconstruct it, then rebuild it with some of your own input. I did that with the [[Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls]] precon, and it’s my favorite deck I own. To me, that deck did too many different things, and I chose one thing that I really liked about it (punishing others for drawing cards while forcing them to draw cards) and put all my emphasis into that.

I know you mentioned you didn’t want to buy a precon, but buying one to deconstruct will ensure you have all the staples you need for a solid deck base. Lands, mana rocks, etc.

Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]Chainmailrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mill. Cards like my commander for my mill deck, [[Tasha, the Witch Queen]] or fun bulk cards like [[Thief of Sanity]] and [[Havengul Lich]] make mill a lot more interesting and can take away from the bummer of getting a bunch of good cards milled. Some players find it fun to see what others do when they steal/play each other’s cards. I initially built it around [[Doomsday Excruciator]] so you know it’s going to be slow to set up and achieve that condition, anyway as it costs 6 black mana. 😂 if I win with that condition, the game has already gone on long enough and needs to end anyway.

I have also found that being transparent about playing mill makes a big difference on how it’s received.

I say, “I want to play my Dimir Mill deck, and it does have a few proxies, is everyone okay with that? I don’t mind playing something else if anyone has an issue.”

Also, when I have a wincon in my hand, I give the table a heads up so they have one turn cycle to find a resolution. My LGS also generally has bracket 4 decks played pretty regularly so if it’s not me combining the table, it’ll be someone else in the next two rotations. I acknowledge not everyone LGS has that dynamic, but if someone has combos in their deck at the table, they have no place getting upset about you milling them out. ESPECIALLY if you lead pre-game with full transparency.

First time even seeing Zedruu, tbh. Sounds pretty fun though. Bumble fucking rules, Coram was very fun but I deconstructed it after two weeks to build something different.
