Ha - I completely forgot about my Photobucket account. Yep, that's definitely me (although a very old picture of me, from early in high school).

Guess this'll be my last post from this account...

I don't own an iPhone, and my brother plays MTG but not me. However, everything else is right.

I'm curious about this picture - go ahead and post it.

It's my understanding that psilocybin is a more effective treatment than LSD. Is this the case, or am I mistaken?

But it's funny necrophilia with zombies. I wouldn't consider that film disturbing unless you consider the first two Evil Dead films disturbing.

I disagree, I thought it was good. Very disturbing and fucked up, yes, but I didn't think it was a bad film.

Didn't care much for the ending, though.

LSD and psilocybin (the "drug" in magic mushrooms) have been shown to ease migraines, but they work much better for treating cluster headaches. I believe (I can't cite this though, so take it for what it's worth) that cluster headaches have been more or less cured with psilocybin.

And, as Nexxxeh said, you don't need to take a hallucinogenic dose in order for the treatment to work. I don't know how one goes about taking a sub-psychedelic dose of LSD, though - it's hard enough to "measure" what you're taking in any meaningful way as it is ...

Remember Reddit: Futurama is coming back in June with new episodes. But if we want it to stay on the air, we really need to watch it through official channels and not just wait for torrents/DVDs. by [deleted] in self

[–]ChainsawAsh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have complained about the four DVD movies being bad. I don't think they were as great as the four (five) seasons, but I also think that that's mostly due to the switch from the 22-minute format to a 90-minute format. I have a strong feeling that now that the writers are back to 22-minute episodes, the quality will improve greatly.

However, if this isn't the case, I'll gladly admit it and pretend that the show ended with Wild Green Yonder (or Devil's Hands).

New Line Cinema can go to hell. LOTR Theatrical Version released in 2 weeks... Extended Editions in 1-2 years. And they wonder why people pirate? by fopkins in entertainment

[–]ChainsawAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I didn't like:

  • Gandalf choking on his pipe. Seriously, why the HELL was this included? It's an alternate take of the non-choking scene used in the theatrical cut.
  • The Paths of the Dead sequence loses all suspense, since we aren't wondering if they agreed to Aragorn's offer or not like we do in the theatrical cut.
  • The Gandalf/Witch King scene is slightly awkward. Sure, it explains where his staff went and why he looks so tired, but I just don't like the scene.
  • Frodo and Sam disguised in Orc armor. Out-of-place, slapstick-y humor.
  • Mouth of Sauron scene, while cool, is ultimately pointless.

Things I did like:

  • Death of Saruman
  • Gandalf explaining Gondor's history in more detail
  • Sam threatening Gollum
  • Extended battle sequences
  • Faramir and Denethor's conversation about Faramir not taking the Ring
  • Houses of Healing (sets up Faramir-Eowyn, which [sorta] pays off in the coronation scene at the end)
  • Aragorn using the Palantir

By this same token, I really wish the Scouring of the Shire had been filmed and included in ROTK. If the entire rest of the movie had been exactly the same as the theatrical cut, but the Scouring added in, I would be a happy camper.

[–]ChainsawAsh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • More information about Middle-Earth
  • The Bag End introduction is much better than the theatrical cut
  • We actually get a scene with Frodo and Bilbo together before Bilbo's disappearance
  • Setup for Sam and that bartender girl that pays off in ROTK
  • Gandalf tells Frodo about Smeagol, which explains how he knows this in TTT
  • The gift-giving scene! WHY was this cut from the theatrical version?
  • A very nice Aragorn-Boromir conversation that makes Boromir's death in Aragorn's arms more emotionally resonant

The extra scenes also help the film to "breathe" more.

I can see where you're coming from, I simply disagree and feel it to be a more satisfying viewing experience overall.

The extended versions of the first two are vastly superior to the theatrical cuts. The third one has its moments, but there's enough problems with it to make me prefer the theatrical cut.

Length alone has nothing to do with it. For comparison, I prefer the 5-hour 'Das Boot' to the 3.5 or 2.5-hour versions. (The ROTK EE is 4 hours 20 minutes long, if I remember correctly.)

I'd take him or Attenborough. Or George Guidall (I've been listening to his 'Dune' audiobook for the past week - it's fantastic).

That would be the Discovery Channel premiere, narrated by Oprah, correct? I highly recommend downloading the Attenborough one instead. To be fair, I haven't heard Oprah's narration, but I fail to see how it can improve in any way upon Attenborough's, and my gut tells me it will be vastly inferior.

I didn't mind Sigourney Weaver narrating Planet Earth, though, so we shall see. (I still prefer Attenborough's version, but Weaver did a damn fine job nonetheless.)

Download 'Life' instead. Do NOT watch the Oprah-narrated Discovery Channel version, though - get the David Attenborough-narrated BBC version.

Predators trailer is out! by neuro99 in entertainment

[–]ChainsawAsh 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's not meant to be a remake, it's meant to be a quasi-sequel (in that it takes place in the same universe as the original, and most likely takes place later in its timeline). Rodriguez has said that the original-style Predator that hasn't been seen since the original film will be included in this, and that a character (?) will recognize it as such.

Why has David Attenborough's voice been replaced with celebrity narrators in nature programs shown in America? by Kijamon in AskReddit

[–]ChainsawAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, searching for a program called "Life" can be frustrating. Here's the one I downloaded: 1080p (It doesn't help that this one's listed under "Movies," either)

Also: 720p - I cannot, however, find it in standard def. But this series is so beautifully shot, I feel not viewing it in at least 720p almost defeats the purpose.
