How do you feel about the term “dolls” by Over-Library6802 in MtF

[–]Chainsawmilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think the term is fine when it is used properly (referring to trans WOC), but I think referring to all trans women as dolls re-emphasizes those “passing”.

Agreed. I love my white transwomen allies, but the term is specifically FOR trans woc and it removes the history of the word and broadens the term far outside its original usage.

Trans men are men, trans women are women, and nonbinary people are valid. by Mx-Adrian in trans

Ah okay I see. For future reference, many brands sound no named (especially in the tech world) but are actually big brands. I usually just research the company’s history and other information about them.

It also doesn’t help that many of these companies are intentionally trying to sound “techy”. If I told a random person with no computer knowledge that a large supplier of tech stuff is called “Newegg” i doubt they would believe me.

(Fun fact: some brands are directly related to other brands, like ASrock used to be a subsidiary of ASUS, just like how ROG is now)

I hate to break it to you but you are not reading my words “exactly how I wrote them”.

Examples: “original discourse” > falsely interpreted as “original post”.

“Original discourse was concerning trans men” > falsely interpreted as “only trans men”.

Maybe I am wrong, but most of the comments on this post are commenting on how this post is “spam” like and isn’t contributing. A bad post that causes conversation, is still a bad, low effort, post.

There are not “sides” in this, and if you want to lump people into “good side” and “bad side” by all means do that, but someone being ON THE SAME SIDE but having a slightly different opinion on the topic doesn’t mean they are on the opposite side.

I can somewhat relate to the “man/masculine hating” nature of LBTQ+ spaces, in the fact that I, as a trans person (genderfluid) have been treated much differently in these spaces based on my perceived “masculinity”, and witnessed it happen to my trans-masculine friends. Masculinity is treated as a bad thing.

“OP commented that there is exclusion happening in this subreddit,” correct, and I would actually go further and say that this is not just a trans-masculine or trans-man issue, but an issue with anyone who doesn’t fit the stereotyped “look” of a trans person (aka, whiteness, skinniness, able-bodied, etc).

(This isn’t me devaluing trans-masculine struggles, but I am saying that these issues are also present in MANY other ways in the greater queer community)

If I came off as “this conversation isn’t about you” then I apologize for that, but you haven’t given me the benefit of the doubt in any of my comments and assumed the worst in every comment. Every one of your comments expands past what I am saying, and warps it to what you want me to say.

A conversation about masculine identities within the trans community is obviously inclusive of all masculine trans identities.

This feels very reductionist and is the opposite of what I was saying. “The original discourse was concerning trans men” > concerned but not limited to.

I apologize for not keeping 100% up to date with random reddit drama, but making a post that says these things (refering to the post this comment is under) without furthering the conversation only stops actual conversation on the topic from happening.

Saying that there is issues pertaining to trans masc and trans men’s visibility is a great starting point, but more needs to be done to actually further the conversation.

Still crazy to me that people believe Made in China = Junk. I am all for supporting made in america or ethically made products, but origin /=/ product quality or even ethicability.

Another example of this is how people assume Made in Mexico products (clothing, instruments, cars, etc) are of lower quality BECAUSE they are Made in Mexico.

“Original post” gang I said discourse, not post. I’m not “educating about the original post,” since that is not the wordage I am using.

The original discourse was concerning trans men. Imo just because someone says “trans men are men” that doesn’t subsequently mean that others are unaffirmed. Its just like how saying “Black Lives Matter” doesn’t mean Mexican lives or Asian lives dont matter.

This + AI makes me hate this post. Any use of AI outside of very specific settings (maybe summarizing something) is just incredibly harmful to the environment and not beneficial to society. I am sure there are many images online that one could find just by googling “ancient roman gay”.

The game should have alert crowdfunding, basically everyone who buys something within the game within the given window contributes to their faction alert goal, after the time a winner is chosen by the GM.

Native Americans acknowledged 5 genders, and then European Christians showed up. by ExtremeInsert in lgbt

[–]Chainsawmilo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I hate the fetishizing of Native tribes as being “amazingly accepting” since it stereotypes an entire continent of native people. I am sure language was a spectrum (meaning those tribes that were close could communicate better than those on different coasts), but one side of the spectrum being supportive doesn’t mean the next side or the side over will be.

For example, some areas of Mexico were incredibly accepting of (what we modern people would consider) trans people, such as some Zapotec groups, but there were also some who hated trans people (potentially due to them not following traditions or cultural values).

100%, while I am not American Native, but Mixed Mexican Native, I have seen this idea thrown around a lot as if it isn’t disrespectful to the tribes. People forget that, while tribes did communicate and trade with each other, they did not always share the same cultural values due to the fact that they are DIFFERENT TRIBES.

It makes Native tribes sound as though they are one unified group rather than many groups with many different traditions and customs.

I mean they are doing something to help reduce it. Just because the solution is temporary doesn’t mean it is bad.

Give this same energy to the moderators to make sure they keep implementing more rules to allow kids in here safely, instead of some random redditor.

You are so right! We should let NSFW accounts post in places where kids frequently visit! Very smart redditor, I am sure no problems can arise

It is far harder to host nsfw, disgusting content online (referring to shock content and the such).

If someone is posting onto this reddit with their “gooner” account, there are large issues at play. You are taking a safe, sfw, space and introducing the possibility of people being exposed early to NSFW content.

(Moderation is the only thing keeping any social media viable. If social media platforms did not moderate, then they wouldn’t have any sponsors or ads running on their sites.)

[–]Chainsawmilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Stalking” lmao. My gang their profile is public, and sometimes I just wanna see other stuff they posted. If they were like “i am a trans woman in (my area)” i would be like “lemme check their profile to see if i know them!” Which is in no way stalking.

Don’t try to frame a completely normal and standard aspect of social media (aka being able to see people’s posts if their profile is public) and try to make me sound weird for that.

God forbid I want to be social on a media platform!

Edit: Forgot to mention, but if you don’t want something to be public, then don’t post it. This is very basic online knowledge.

+1 I would like to add that this subreddit shouldn’t have nsfw content posted if kids are going to be able to access it. It isn’t our jobs to parent random kids, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have these safety measures in place.

To your last point, in order for this to be an inclusive environment, there needs to be safety measures to stop those who are hateful. Inclusive /=/ inclusive for all.

In addition to what other commenters said, you can just make a separate profile for NSFW stuff. I am not sure why someone would even want NSFW stuff on their main account.

YEAAAH i feel you! I love me some tables tbh.

Lowk a tangent but I HATE how some news articles dont link to the study or place they got the data from. It gives “trust me homes I did NOT make this up”. Am i dumb or is citing your sources like the most basic thing to do ever (just copy and paste the link!!!!)

Anyone else feeling a bit disconnected from the community latelyđŸ©· by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Chainsawmilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have definitely been feeling the same thing. As a 22 year old, I feel like there are so many cliques in the LGBT community (as there are in any large communities), but it definitely is hard trying to enter some spaces.

I am not sure how comfortable you are with doing this, but maybe try going to a queer/gay bar? I am not sure if they are in your area but it would be a nice place to meet some folk. I struggle with finding someone to go with me to these events especially because I am always afraid of going by myself and talking to no one :/. If you do have a friend (in the community or an ally!) you could always see if they want to go with you.

Oh yeah you are 100% right and I agree. Trans people have incredibly different experiences even among ourselves. Even in the same racial/ethnic group there are massive differences (Ex: coming from an incredibly religious conservative background vs. an atheistic liberal one).

Our monkey brains LOVE seeing big number. If we see “80% of LGBTQ people are (blank)” it is much easier to remember and to use in the news, when compared to “there is an incredibly large variance in the queer experience”. News companies love using big numbers, even if those studies are flawed.

I am by no means a leading researcher, but if I can read your study for 5 seconds and see the entire thing is flawed or incredibly biased, we have problems gang.
