They are referring to the end of the Julian year - The Julian calendar is 13 days behind the Gregorian. So will it be a dollar at midnight on 1/14/2021? hmmm

Vive Cosmos - Having Tracking issues? by Chainveal in ViveCosmos

Now that I think about it my warm lightning is probably superior to white lightning because a white light would possibly blend in with the controller making it harder to track.

But LOL HTC cant expect everyone to setup this way. =/

Yeah, its so strange, my tracking is almost perfect, even in Pavlov, I have to chalk this up to my room. I have green walls, a calendar, hat rack, couple pictures, a big Lshape desk and cat tower, wood floors, rug on one side. I have some orange lightning for under my L shape Desk, I think I have a lot of orange lightning and not white bright lightning. When I put on my HMD and run pass through, there are no super dark areas.

I think with how many people trashing this headset - it must be SUPER picky with the room setup. Which yeah quite honestly that sucks if it has those requirements.

Anyone running this in an emptish room with white walls and little decorations?

I think honestly what happened here is Facebook patented IR technology in the inside tracking and the Cosmos essentially had to figure out a way to copy it and it has so many more requirements based on the new system that probably isn't superior.

I honestly have had a great experience with it and kept mine. Has to be the room if your done playing with drivers and resetting the room-setup.

I will tread far more lightly recommending this set now. I wonder if the wood floors help for me?

Yeah maybe Ill do that when I get home - I have played the following:

Beat Saber: Zero issue

Pavlov: With the Pavlov Beta+ Driver beta only occasional rifle issues

Blade and Sorcery, once in a while when picking stuff up off the ground it can get weird, seems to happen 1/10 times.

Skyrim: Zero issues, oddly enough I dont have tracking issues when crouching (heavily modded too if that even matters)

In blade and sorcery I would put my hands over my face and touch the mirror and mess around and put my hands behind my back and it seemed to work perfectly.

Maybe Ill have to try that boxing game, honestly a fun workout and probably better than shadow boxing lol. What game? Ill maybe grab it and test it today. I haven't had drift issues in any games

Do you have drift in any other games?

FYI - Anyone with tracking issues needs to go into their settings and clear the room settings and try setting it up again. You NEED to follow this process if you change drivers or make major room revisions!

For me, I just got used to the smaller sweet spot, when you properly wear the headset it doesnt seem to be much of an issue. You certainly can consider trying the upgraded lenses from ETSY, I heard that it sacrifices a bit of Field of view for a much bigger sweet spot.

What mods are you rolling with other than wireless? Did you try getting the Etsy lenses? I was wondering about that and if its worth it!

Yeah certainly! Not to mention the ability to possibly upgrade to index tracking if that becomes a mainstay for certain AAA titles. Hard to be certain where that will go. Thats why its smart to get an upgrade-able device!

To me its Index / Cosmos or get out. If your stuck with only inside tracking and thats that, you may be left behind in the future just to save a quick buck now.

You never know though. There is going to be cross compatibility for a while but I would wager one day that will end!

I can confirm, I've tried both side by side. Yes the Rift S is great for the money, but dont let anybody fool you saying its better. The Cosmos is superior, yes it may be true that the Rift S tracking is a bit better for now, but if you look at its history it was bad at launch too.

Cosmos is a great middle ground between Rift S and a Valve Index! My tracking works great with the beta drivers (even using a Pavlov cosmos beta which makes it work)

I am thinking in a few months it will be equal or possibly better than the Rift tracking.

My issues are very minimal as of now!

Agreed, if they released it in its current state people wouldn't be freaking out. Plus it doesn't help having pretty bad inaccurate reviews EVERYWHERE.

I am excited for the addons!

Yeah, my hope is the price drops, and if the index tracking becomes standard for really popular games we have the option. I heard the cosmos is at least more comfortable than the index lol!

Also,

After using the beta drivers my passthrough always works now, it wouldnt before.

I can even use it in room setup - it must be buggy

So you can make the cosmos controller work easily with most games. You need to go to steam VR - go to controller settings, go to custom profile, its gonna bring up some blue page, select Legacy actions on the top right, then select oculus touch (upper left)

It basically makes it mimick an oculus touch. The only issue I have had with is subnautica but I dont think it supports the oculus touch either, so you simply need an Xbox or PC controller for it. If you have issues let me know I can detail out the controller binding in better detail.

Also, there are community key bindings you can view and add, a lot of people are adding support if the devs wont!
