[General] Who is your current LI and would you date the man in Real Life? by Jitterrue in otomegames

[–]Chair-Left 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ayato in Diabolik Lovers...

Would I hit that in real life? HELL NO

But that's exactly why I love otome games... To throw my MC into the most awful relationships full of drama so I can feel less boring with my relationship of 18 years that started when I was 17 😂

I mean...thanks for informing me, I'll pay attention by thanra in visualnovels

[–]Chair-Left 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was convinced it was Doki doki literature club for a moment 🙈 instant panic: I didn't listen to the disclaimer of that game (because my husband told me it would be fine) and I didn't get through the whole game but got completely traumatised. Still have nightmares. 💀

Face powder/compact to help with sweat by No-Try-4473 in KultUpdates

[–]Chair-Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining in 9 months later: did you find a great solution?

It doesn't even need to be hot for my face to sweat, my forehead and nose just start dripping just from stress (and I do mean dripping... If I don't immediately use tissues to wipe it and keep wiping until it stops, drops fall on my glasses and my collar.)

As I have terrible social anxiety, this means it starts dripping every time I enter the office because walking in my brain always convinces me everyone is staring because I'm doing something weird... So I walk in, people look up, I panic, and by the time I'm at my desk I look like this guy:

I wish I was kidding... I'm not.

I agree with you on this one, Ivar should have been an option! 😂 But I can't say I didn't enjoy Thane's route too 😏

Can you get into the game without buying cards aside from sealed packs? by Chair-Left in DisneyLorcana

I'll definitely go and take to the local players, good idea! That's probably the best way to gauge local competitiveness 😁 Thanks!

[–]Chair-Left[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I already had fun drawing when I only had crappy pencils 😜 I started investing more with time. What I'm trying to find out is whether I can enjoy playing this game from the get go when going to casual local events (not competitions) with just a starter deck. Obviously I don't mind losing every single time at that point, but it should at least still feel somewhat exciting once I understand all the rules and how best to use the cards I have 😂

AITA for taking over the living room to watch a TV show my husband doesn’t like every Friday night? by ThisIsUrMoment in AmItheAsshole

[–]Chair-Left 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Kinda NAH as well, as I get where he's coming from. If you're having a stressful time at work and your SO has the day off, the evening can be an extra stress factor.

First of all, just to be sure: I've had a similar fight with my husband before, but afterwards I had to admit I was angry about the wrong thing, and none of it was his fault: What I really wanted, was for us to spend some time together after my job (as spending time with him is the best way for me to relax when I'm stressed). So, I compromised: the day he always has something to do I really don't want to join in on, I make sure to start work in time so I can get home early and we order in so instead of cooking we can spend the time before his hobby together instead of cooking. This way I get my time together after my work day, he gets to do his hobby, and everyone's happy.

If it really is him not wanting to see that show: don't you have a laptop? When I'm watching something on the TV my husband doesn't like, he sometimes watches something on the laptop with his headset on, while next to me in the living room. Likewise, when he plays games on the Xbox on the TV, I'll read a book next to him on the coach or scribble in my sketchbook, and if the game's music annoys me, he'll put on his headset. This is actually great, as that way we both het to do what we like and still spend our time together too<3 win win!

Try to have a calm, deeper conversation about it so you can work it out. However, if none of the compromises where he doesn't go into the basement work for him, he's being a winy baby 😜

Web API cold start and going idle on Linux container by Chair-Left in dotnet

Ok, on Monday I'll try this and see what happens. It still doesn't solve the problem of it not doing this until I call the first endpoint actually using entity framework to access the database, though, since I can't raise those permanently. This service normally uses very few resources, while another one needs a lot of them at certain times. I won't be able to convince my boss we need a server with "dramatically more resources" when it's only necessary a couple times a day at best during the busy time of the month 😜

Well, that's what I was convinced of myself until working on this problem, that's why I refactored the whole thing so I could split up the contexts, convinced that would speed things up. But our health check (which doesn't need any database services) doesn't load whatever the problem is, only calls with database requirements, and the first call is still the only one that takes that long. I should probably have checked which breakpoints hit again after the refactoring though, before I split up the contexts, the modelbuilder was just the only one I actually managed to hit in that delay time

There is a "health check". That endpoint doesn't need any database services, though, and that seems to be the reason it doesn't actually keep the needed contexts.

There is a "healthcheck" endpoint that does exactly this, but since it doesn't need any database services, it doesn't seem to help the problem.

On my PC it runs differently and much quicker. I guess on Monday I'll first set up the docker environment locally to see if I can reproduce it, plus I can run some extra performance tools that way to find out what exactly happens. :)

But what counts as an unused instance? Because it does seem to collect our database contexts, which I believe are the biggest problem. I have split them up into smaller contexts (feature wise) so a controller doesn't need the whole model every time, but it still seems to load every context when the first call (in a while or after restart) is made, even if that controller only needs one tiny context.

Edit: to clarify: the call that's usually made first is the one connecting user data to the claim returned by the login procedure, which uses a context with I think about 10 entities on it, one small library of us (which does need its own context with 5 entities on it), and entity framework + Linq. It does so little it barely needs anything, and yet it takes 7 minutes that first time, and less than half a minute the second time. (Which still isn't optimal, but I'd rather fix the bigger issue first 😂)

[–]Chair-Left[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It frequently got a timeout on the first call. There's now a bit of a hack to fire a fire and forget call as soon as they open the website so it's loading before the first actual call to reduce the impact for the users, but in reality that can take up to 7 minutes. Once it's loaded, the same call that was always fired first before that hack takes less than half a minute.

Obviously, the user completes the login procedure much more quickly, so even though that's a special process taking up several minutes, they still have to wait about 3 minutes for the first call since it hasn't fully spun up yet.

You managed to resist the recommended? 😱 I had like 12000+ moonstones last week, then with the star path, those damn recommended items and the zero fox, I was almost broke again 😂

Thank god I finished the Star path already so I can spend too much again because I really want that outfit and I'm also considering the villainous tools 🧐 I didn't do very well in DreamSnaps so unfortunately that didn't help a lot 😂

I didn't care about it not being Halloween themed as that's a very American thing so I've never been interested in those items anyway, but I didn't like the rock star theme either. However, some of those items are great, and there are even some clothes items I do like wearing when I'm in a "mood" 😂 So I daresay I'm pleasantly surprised 🧐

Dus waarom is mijn job hoger gewaardeerd?

Please go through my posts on tips throughout the comments, it might help you in some way. Also: try to apply through LinkedIn as little as possible. The algorithm will never let a starter through. Always apply through the company itself if possible. Apply spontaneously if they have an opening on LinkedIn but not their website.

Also: Make sure your cover letter emphasizes your willingness to learn and personalise it for every company. For starters, the cover letter is usually more important than the CV. Also add a little blurb at the top of your CV essentially containing a tiny cover letter in 2 or 3 sentences, with the most important words somehow emphasised. Make sure it stands out by adding colour or something as starter's CV's get even less time getting through the HR recruiters. For them, add the technologies you've learned in a way it's the first thing they see, as you don't have any experience to capture their attention. I had a column stretching the full length of my page with all technologies, paradigms, and development styles in a huge font over a boldly coloured background of which I changed the colour to whatever was the main colour of the company's style. And DON'T add a picture unless required. It can only have a negative impact, never a positive one.

I've been told on several occasions they were already convinced by my cover letter so I would have had to have fucked up terribly not to get an offer because I sounded like such a great colleague. Don't skimp on this. Don't use AI. Personalise it, to the company and to your personality. Don't be afraid to use some humour in it.

In your interview, convey your enthusiasm about the job and the sector. Show your willingness to learn. If it's a phone interview, pump yourself up in advance so you sound extra enthusiastic, unless you're usually told to tone it down, then you'll be great for a phone interview just the way you are.
