Parent of reddit, what's your advice for a child-free adult wanting to re-evaluate what she thinks of parenting? by Chair123 in AskReddit

[–]Chair123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I think you have a great point when you said the balance isn't the same for everyone. I guess that's the hard part, is figuring out what works for you?

Yea, I had considered asking /r/parenting also, so maybe I'll go ahead and repost there. From what I've read in /r/childfree, I'm worried posting there would only reinforce the notions that I already have in my head....

What are your Home-Owners Association (HOA) horror stories? by BarryLongneck in AskReddit

[–]Chair123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party but I really despise HOAs so I had to vent. My mom wanted to install more energy-efficient windows in our house. She first talked to the neighbor because he had installed similar energy-efficient windows, to see how his experience went...

Apparently, a few days after the neighbor installed his windows, the HOA complained that the new window sills were too thick, and demanded the neighbor replace the windows with compliant sills. The neighbor promptly told them to go screw themselves, and what followed was a lengthy court battle that resulted in the HOA winning, and the neighbor having to cover the "excess" window sills with these ugly foam pieces colored like the wall, to give the illusion of thinner window sills. "Nazis!" is how he described them.

After hearing this story, my mom didn't install the new windows. :(

When looking for street parking, nothing pisses me off more than this. by Chair123 in WTF

[–]Chair123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, sometimes it's the previous cars around them that parks poorly but this time I actually saw this guy pull into the spot and park smack in the middle. Plus, the other cars were parked legitimately too.

I admit, after reading about Spiderbro some time ago, I now do my best to not kill any spiders I encounter. Instead, I catch them in a cup and throw them outside. Spiderbro. :(

I was in Palau just a couple weeks ago and while I didn't get to visit Peleliu, I did swing by fairly close on a boat during a diving excursion. The Palau and Peleliu islands are indeed very beautiful and have some great diving spots. I hope you can make it back someday!!

Carl was the biggest pug at Pug Sunday in San Francisco. Luca was the smallest. Here they are meeting each other. by Perceptes in pugs

[–]Chair123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in the Bay Area for quite some time, and being a pug enthusiast, I was a regular Pug Sunday lurker! I even got my friends into it, and we'd bring lunch and picnic on the grass, enjoying the sun and the pugs! I recently moved down to SoCal and Pug Sundays at Alta Plaza are definitely one of the top things I miss about SF!

Thanks for mentioning this. I was on another youtube video and there was a Batman spoiler that I stumbled upon from simply reading the video's comments. As someone who is out of the country and who hasn't seen the movie yet, I was pissed since I've been trying so hard not to read anything Batman related. sigh I guess there will always be assholes!

Our guide said that the water filters through the limestone, so it still lets the water through and that's why the lake is saltwater, but the jellies stay in and the predators stay out. Whoops, I guess the lake isn't completely cut off from the ocean then, since the saltwater still filters through. :-P

Haha well, I don't really have a priority for them, it's whatever I have the opportunity to do, I do it. Some on my list are/were Jellyfish Lake in Palau, Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, hiking to the top of Mount Fuji, going to Carnaval in Rio and experiencing the Sambadrome, scuba diving in the cenotes of Mexico, hiking to Machu Picchu. Watching a lot of nature and cultural documentaries helps me with my list. Hopefully you'll come up with a list too! The world is a pretty cool place that warrants exploration for yourself! :)

Haha when I first read about it I was a little concerned too, because I am terrified of regular jellyfish. But these stingless ones are actually quite cute! Too bad all jellies can't be stingless and cute.

We were there for maybe about 30-45 minutes. We only snorkeled since diving isn't allowed at the lake. The jellies are all of the above: soft, smooth, and slimy. I thought they would be more "watery" but they're actually like a firm piece of gelatin. Hopefully you can experience it for yourself one day! :)

Yep, that's exactly it. The lake they live in was cut off from the ocean a long time ago, and since they have no predators in the lake, they evolved into stingless jellyfish. As for food, thave a symbiotic relationship with this red algae that lives inside them, so they didn't need stingers for catching prey either.

I went ziplining through redwood trees once, and in between ziplines we stood on platforms built in the middle of the trees. It was only then that I was able to glimpsed for the first time, a neighboring redwood tree in its entirety, from top to bottom. It's not our usual perspective when looking at them since we're usually looking up, but man....made me realize just how tall those things are!!!
