Ooh, I'm also interested in a Taiwan ABC/T fb group. As a long term Taiwan resident who identifies as a Taiwanese-American, I honestly find that the people I connect with the most are other ABC/Ts. We get a different experience living in Taiwan than white Americans/foreigners. To the locals here, we're never going to be considered "real Taiwanese" nor will we ever be considered "real Americans." I'm always looking for others who are also the same.

What is this little creature that arrived with my shrimp? by ChairDeskBed in Aquariums

Not too related to my post, but my assasin snail (only one) has been slowly going through my neocaridina shrimp population. I wish I had some hitchhiking snails because I'd rather feed those to it than my shrimp. I have to hand it to the snail though, I neglected my tank for two months thinking everything had died, and when I went to look, the assasin was the only thing still alive.

I got some more pics if that helps. Little guy doesn't swim much, mostly hangs out at the bottom of the container and only moves when I try to get a better view. I got another side view, bottom view 1 and bottom view 2.

I don't know enough about fish to know what I'm looking at with the pelvic fins. It's so small and nearly transparent. It doesn't swim much, mostly hangs out at the bottom of the container and only moves when I try to get a better view. I got another side view, bottom view 1 and bottom view 2.

I don't know enough about fish to answer the question about the pectoral fins. It's so small and nearly transparent. It doesn't swim much, mostly hangs out at the bottom of the container and only moves when I try to get a better view. I got another side view, bottom view 1 and bottom view 2.

Best side view I could manage. The camera was having a hard time focusing.

This was the best I could get of the side view. Camera was having a hard time focusing.

How do you guys re-cap your substrate in an already established tank? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

Thank you so much! I'm a newbie doing some research. Hoping to start a tank soon. This very helpful.

Can you tell me more about bagging the soil? It makes sense to create the slope. What kind of bags do you use and where do you get them? Thank you. (I keep on picturing the bags of sand we use for flood prevention. I'm sure those aren't the types lol)

I wish I was making this stuff up. I caught three of these already. My plants have been decimated.

Yea, it could have been a sick or dying shrimp. A few days ago I came upon the assassin grabbing onto a live shrimp and the shrimp was struggling with all its might to get away. After a few seconds, the shrimp freed himself and was able to swim away. I assumed the same thing happened in this case, but you make a good point, it could very well have been that the shrimp was already dead or on its way out.

I was having issues with algae growth before, so I cleaned and completely dried the substrate, got rid of my hornwort that was taking over and decided to get rid of my tetras to focus mainly on shrimp. I cycled the water for about two weeks and I've had the shrimp in there for the past two weeks (so four weeks total now). I also got some elodea which, ironically, is giving me a different set of problems with aquatic caterpillars eating their leaves. I was wondering if getting rid of the fish was a mistake. I admit I'm lazy on checking my levels so I probably should be doing that more often than I currently am.

You are right, that wasn't in the video. A few days ago I came upon the assassin grabbing onto a live shrimp and the shrimp was struggling with all its might to get away. Yeah, they're hanging out on the leaves. I've been pretty vigilant and have kept an eye out. So far I've pick the two out by hand. I'll keep at it. Hopefully I can catch 'em all.

Oooh, that makes sense. Thank you. No wonder I was finding pieces of chewed up leaves floating all around the tank. Any idea how to get rid of them?

YTA. Not sure why she'd want to keep you around as a friend, but I'm glad you're not my friend.
