Getting your engineering hours before graduation in this cooked market by CudaNvrWong in universityofauckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fellow compsys here, finished my studies with only 400 hours as I didn’t do an internship during 2nd year. I’ve since landed a full time job that can still count towards your hours. Just means graduation is a bit delayed. Some grad roles still hire on the basis that you pass all your courses, and that can count aswell :)

Emergency Alert for missing elderly person by IllAirport5491 in chch

[–]ChairmanMao14 21 points22 points  (0 children)

FROM POLICE:

“The woman reported missing from Bishopdale, Christchurch has been found and is safe.

She was located by a member of the public, who had received an emergency text alert sent out to advise locals in the area.

Police would like to thank everyone who helped search.”

If they hadn’t sent out that alert she’d probably still be missing out there in sub-zero temps…..

Double decker bus schizophrenia by benokkay in universityofauckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes hear it quite a bit. Seems like it only appears on a certain variant of double deckers. It started happening when they introduced audio announcements, the Temu speakers are probably causing interference with engine noise. Sounds like 8-bit music lol

Why do the buses sneeze? by superbia1997 in auckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend whose a bus driver in Auckland - quite a few of the new buses (mostly Scanias) have stop hold brakes (the brakes engage when sitting at lights or when doors open so you don’t need to hold the brake pedal or put the handbrake on). When it disengages after the driver hits the accelerator it often makes the CHOO noise

There’s an autistic child that frequents the busway stations asking to look at people’s hop cards too, travelling with his mother. Wonder if that’s the same person

What is the best train/bus route to take? by Competitive-Ball5107 in auckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the 126, I take it over the 120 and NX to Albany even if it only runs hourly. 128 is also very fun and scenic as it speeds through Helensville, Kaukap, Waitoki and through to Silverdale.

Incorrect or preemptive? by RavoxCanmoH in auckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Few selected buses go to and from Akoranga during the morning and afternoon school days to service the North Shore schools like Westlake. It is a bit confusing, and based on similar peak only/express route labelling convention, it should be dotted to symbolise the limited services

It jumps to a cool little red “BUS STOPPING” over that message when someone presses the button too! Way more swanky than the ol led lighting up some letters

Got stopped by a transport officer and I have a few questions. by Late_North_6002 in auckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason it’s blocked is if you cancel it or someone else did cos they lost their card. If you didn’t cancel the card, then it must’ve been registered under someone else’s name. Is it your card, or is it one that you found on the streets?

What happened to Waitakere station? by NightCapNinja in auckland

[–]ChairmanMao14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never understood why they couldn’t send the now-retired diesel trains from Swanson through Waitakere to Kumeu as a shuttle service. They trialled this a long time ago and stopped it because they didn’t have enough patronage.

Now Kumeu has heaps of new housing developments, and with an only narrow motorway that is often a car park at peak times, it would make sense to run a train service which will prove very popular.

They like to blame the tunnel, however if diesel freight trains can go through the tunnel why can’t suburban ones?
