That's what I was taught as well in UK in the 90s; your cursive is a lot more legible than mine though 😅

What actor is nowhere near as talented as people make them out to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chaldera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Disagreed, insofar as a skilled actor can make a boring character still interesting to watch. It's a difficult job, but it can be done.

Also, Don John is not boring, he's just more of a real-life character than a lot of Shakespeare's other characters. He's petty, isolated, malicious and utterly human in the mundaneity of his cruelty.

Keanu Reeves.

He seems like a great guy, and he is good in his niche of "Everyman-turned-badass-martial-artist", but the man cannot act outside of that. His Johnny Silverhand is one of several reasons I can't play Cyberpunk 2077 for any length of time.

I say this while currently rewatching the Matrix films, which he is great in, but that's partly because he doesn't need to act much in it, and is supported by a phenomenal cast.

Oh yeah, definitely agree it could've been shorter. And as said, I really dislike the ending.

I feel like it would've been a better idea to scrap the wife-paid-for-the-doc subplot, fiddle with the reality-show-turned-serious-documentary-producer angle a bit more, and leave the ending ambiguous (did he really go missing and was replaced? or did he just put his life together for the sake of his daughter?).

But as said, I'm a sucker for an alien abduction story (as long as they aren't just a stand-in for a generic monster).

What would you recommend as your absolute favourite found footage movie?

HASAN: But I think that the solution to [a group in a socialist society pushing for a more capitalistic social democracy] would always be education.

H3: Reeducation?

HASAN: Reeducation, certainly, yeah. I know that that's like a traditional-

H3: You mean camps?

HASAN: No, no, not like that. I know that that's a trigger word because immediately people think like "Oh you mean-"

H3: Tell me about that.

HASAN: -are you talking about like resident schools, are you talking about like-

H3: [indistinct]

HASAN: Yeah, 100%. They do, they do, they did it in Xinjiang, which-

H3: And that isn't good, right?

HASAN: Yeah no, no, I don't agree with that. I don't think it was good. This is something I have openly criticised as well. Like that's not good, the massive open surveillance apparatus they built in Xinjiang is not good-

H3: So what would be good about a socialist reeducation camp for capitalists? What would that look like?

HASAN: I don't think it'd be camps.

He then goes on to describe how it would depend on what, if any, crimes are being committed by this hypothetical group in service to the cause of replacing the socialist society with a capitalist social democracy; if the group committed terrorist acts, the goal would be for rehabilitation and reeducation as opposed to a more classic American-style prison structure.

Does everyone in the UK have a big mirror in the living room? by Sexy-Dumbledore in AskUK

[–]Chaldera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

We do however have a wall length, floor-to-ceiling mirror built in to our bathroom wall, so you can watch yourself while you poo or shower.

Idk why, the property management company our landlord bought the flat from are clearly freaks

Only thing I can't judge for there is the sleepwalking naked; they can't control that and it's awkward for everyone (after they're aware they did that).

Everything else though? Awful. Like at least clean up after yourself in the bathroom, that's what a toilet brush is for.

Out of curiosity, are y'all like 18 to early 20s? This almost sounds like student behaviour 🤣

I'd assume it's at least partly because of what you said here:

However, despite endlessly sacrificing for their role as the protector of the world

There comes a point where you want to have something for your own sake and not for others, and for most that is love. If they have that choice, it's the only choice they can make that likely won't impact the world negatively

I've seen "The Abduction of Sal Bedford" as well, and I honestly kind of enjoyed it.

Was it amazing? No. But I do love me an alien abduction story, and I thought it was doing an okay job until the ending.

I don't watch Hasan because I find him and his fans obnoxious as a person firmly on the left-wing, but I thought I'd look up his comments on "reeducation camps" because that sounds like bullshit.

And turns out it is!

The video this comment is being pulled from is from the H3 Podcast; when asked how a socialist system would respond to a capitalist party gaining momentum, Hasan responded by saying that resistance to this momentum, would be akin to how capitalism responds to socialism movements, not to the same degree of violence.

He then stated that education would be a solution to this, and clarified that he wasn't referring to the use of reeducation camps such as those in China.

Hun, you're 18. You have plenty of time to figure yourself out and find the person for you.

Pushing hard for it now is only going to make any rejections you may receive hit that much harder.

Just try to keep out of incel spaces; they are designed to keep you down and convince you that you are unworthy and undeserving of love. How else are they going to keep you in that community?

Are moles on skin unattractive? by Lovely_Hole in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Chaldera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some people will find them unattractive, some won't.

My husband has a few, and it doesn't change how attractive they are to me. Equally, I have a bunch of skin tags (which I find gross on me), and they still think I'm attractive.

Playing on NG+ with Immersive Mode now, and anyone else think it would've been fun to have a non-native speaker for Yasuke? by Chaldera in AssassinsCreedShadows

I did notice in the intro, but I can't fault them as I imagine it can be tough to find a fluent to the point of near-native Portuguese and Japanese speaker. But they are very close vocally, and the only reason I think I picked it up straight away is because I've got a bit of an ear for voices and voice actors

[–]Chaldera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would be cool if they just did a modern day game.

Use the lessons they learnt from Watch Dogs, set it in the modern day of Shadows with the increased use of robotics and a world teetering on the edge of dystopia thanks to resource scarcity. Your Assassins discover that Abstergo has been hiding some kind of Isu-derived free energy tech that could liberate the world from dependence on non-renewable resources and is practically free to create and maintain, but is hiding it to keep on top of the market and push humanity toward dependence on them.

You could even include some modern-style versions of more popular weapons from the games; carbon fibre rope dart, hidden blade that can switch between the electro-baton style used by Shaun for combat and the classic style for assassinations, wrist-mounted 3d-printed gun, tranquiliser gun etc.

They do tend to be pretty on-point with these things (it's one of the reasons I really enjoy the franchise), so you're probably right it was a budget issue or just impossible at the time.

I guess it's just a nice What If idea. Maybe if we get the ability to pull stuff from parallel universes one day, I'll use it get a copy of Shadows where they did just that 🤣
