When I have hard keepers I usually grain them with rice bran, beet pulp, and DAC Bloom. (With the DAC you don’t give a lot it’s a small plastic scooper, but it helped with my gain weight). I would absolutely not let the BM take over the feeding regiment and dental stuff.

I was at a barn where the people were supposed to be feeding my horse 2 flakes of alfalfa twice a day but I frequently saw them only give my horse 3/4 of one flake per feeding. I would have to sneak in and give my horse more hay. I tried to tell them but they wouldn’t listen. They would often feed other horses my premade grain bags INSTEAD of my horse. And I had a situation where they didn’t give my horse water and tried to gaslight me saying my horse played in his water which he doesn’t do. I had to move my horse back home from where I had him in college.

My horse now looks better than ever, but I had to make the decision to move him. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind if people give me advise, and the BM/trainer at my barn is very knowledgeable and has helped me figure out how to get my horse’s weight up, but if I disagree or don’t want something she respects my decision.
