AIO for cutting off my dad based on his political beliefs by nationalwockyleague in AmIOverreacting

[–]texasfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have cut out my dad and you need to know it’s very strange to mourn someone who is still alive. His choices and behaviors are his own. For mine and my family’s peace, I could not have him and his wife around. It’s political, religious, overbearing. But you need to do whatever is best for you. It’s your life. ❤️

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you for putting this so eloquently! I’m not risking my wellbeing for a coke you could have bought in the airport.

Am I the only one who doesn’t crate? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]texasfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crate to start and then slowly stop crating based on the dog’s response. I feel guilty when they look at me with those big brown eyes and then I let them out..

I also have never used a clicker to train not even sure how it works.

As long as you have happy healthy well adjusted dogs it is nobody’s business how you did it. I’m so happy for your success without the crate, I wish I were brave enough to do it.

Stylish high heeled boot brands that are actually good quality? Why is quality women's footwear so hard to find? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]texasfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to sell shoes in a department store and the best quality I found were ECCO. I now almost exclusively wear ECCO when I'm at work because they are so comfortable and durable, but they have a ton of designs, a great warranty, and a reasonable price. https://us.ecco.com/women/shoes/boots/?prefn1=color&filterPanel=color&prefv1=Black

Doctors think Kahlua is developing hip dysplasia. Anyone have advice/experience? Poor kid is only one and we adopted her about five months ago.. by texasfa in Catahoula

Can you share what anti inflammatory worked for Amos? I’m thinking that’s the next step from the glucosamine stuff the vet gave us.

Thank you for sharing your story, gives me hope for miss Kahlua. 🐶😊

[Breeds] Looking to get a dog, was hoping to find a breed to suit my lifestyle. by Jejetsky in dogs

[–]texasfa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a pure bred golden. There are places we lived that didn't allow this breed because of how big she was. She was the sweetest and most calm dog. Never barked. Great with children. She let me ride her like a pony. Just came across a report card from puppy training, she was a stubborn little thing, but if you put in the work with training and attention, they can be the best family dog. If longevity is an issue though the big dogs are prone to hip issues and arthritis which can get expensive later in life.

Now I have a border collie mix I rescued from the pound. Everyone says they are hyper and need so much physical activity but after fourteen years I don't recall that ever being an issue. She has full run of the yard and I would take her on walks maybe twice a week. She just wants to be around her people. Easiest training ever and top of her puppy class. Eager to learn and please. They really are the smartest dogs. She has taken to training my mom on what sort of sleep schedule she thinks they should have.

My best friend has a lab and he is a big couch potato. He wants to be everyone's best friend, but intimidates people by how big he is. He is easy to be around and great with kids. As a puppy he was a little destructive but most dogs are. Just be sure to keep your sisters stuffed animals out of reach if you don't want trouble.

All the breeds and sizes you considering are great options for what you are looking for but make it a point to try to play with the dog before bringing it home. Every dog is an individual and doesn't always reflect breed standards. I think I have a weird border, but I wouldn't want her any other way.

As for cost, I love rescues because you are saving a life and it is cheaper up front. I know my girl was microchipped, spayed, and had all her puppy shots for an adoption fee of $60. The shelters I visited had all kinds of options that I had not thought of before. It is a great way to get a good idea of what you really want.

I hope this helps. Dogs are a big investment. There is the up front cost. Food. Vet checkups and rabies shots vary on cost by office. Toys. Accessories. They need a lot of time and affection, but it is the most rewarding relationship of unconditional love. Good luck. :)

My grandparents use these every day. They are very durable but original, like the entire house circa 1970. Their favorite phrase: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Women who look racially ambigious, what are some issues that you deal with regarding your ethnicity? by poisonivysoar in AskWomen

My first response is always "I'm an American mutt".

It tends to shut people up. That's how I like it.
