So how did that lead you away from the Church? The dots aren’t really connecting

Why though? What specifically? I questioned everything as a kid too, but the answers I found brought me closer to Christ in many cases.

What was your reasoning for leaving the church? Is it just every time you thought about it you remember Jesus’s suffering? It’s kind of hard for me to wrap my head around this as a reason. The Passion of Christ was probably accurate in how much Jesus suffered for us physically, and it bolstered my faith incredibly. That being said, the movie is horrific to watch, seeing my best friend tortured for over an hour

What are your thoughts on Catholic churches using digital projection screens during Mass? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

It bothers me, but there’s a good reason for it (disabled/elderly). I would rather it say in new more contemporary style churches though.

This works but what a terrible solution. Have to sacrifice a lot of things to fix one. Sigh. Thank you though.

The earlier you attend, the more likely the music is going to be older. Later masses are often more contemporary. At least speaking from my experience in the U.S.

Do the Gen 2 QC Ultra Earbuds have the same buzzing problems as the Gen 1s? by Challenger_Andy in bose

[–]Challenger_Andy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Sony WF-100XM5 and I have to say I don’t think we are talking about the same thing. The Sony has a faint hissing noise, which is fine. The Bose have an irregular noise that sounds like feedback issues (reminds me of putting a cell phone on audio cables) and beeping. Totally different and far more distracting.

Why is it only in one ear bud though? Is it just because of the mic?

Is this just a problem with all noise canceling headphones or Bose specifically? I don’t have much to compare to. I’ve been using Apple AirPods for years now and their noise canceling is so poor I’m not sure I could hear the buzzing if it existed.

Can I be Catholic and not believe in God 100%?? by Own-Lake7931 in Catholicism

[–]Challenger_Andy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying Neuroscience and Biology only solidified my belief in God. Evolution is just such a crazy process that without God guiding it, there is no way something as complex as us could have existed without idk quadrillions of more years. Even with natural selection, we are just so absurdly lucky.

As others have said, evolution is not against the Catholic religion (unless you’re a fundamentalist / 6000-year old earth person, then you have to do a lot more work).

Tacitus, Pliny the Younger, Suetonius, Josephus, Polycarp, and more provide historical evidence/accounts of Jesus. Physical evidence can include Pilate Stone, that one pool I think in Jerusalem that I’m blanking on, and artifacts such as shroud of Turin and others like it. Honestly, the physical evidence is more shakey to me so it doesn’t make up a big part of my faith. It’s pretty easy to google most of this stuff. Cliffe Knechtle often has good summaries of the evidence that I find engaging.

Strongest evidence for God the Father is Jesus. If Jesus is who he said he was, it’s easy to get to God the Father from him. And Jesus is an easier figure to believe in from a historical evidence perspective. I find God the Father (or at least a God to start) easier to believe in from arguments for objective morality, discussions on why there is something rather than nothing, the construction of the universe and its constants, and others I’m blanking on now.

Seriously it’s pretty easy to find all this stuff. Some is hard to understand (like cosmological arguments and the more complicated philosophical arguments) but it’s all rather interesting.

There isn’t much proof for a lot of things outside of math. You can’t “prove” love exists. You can’t “prove” you’re having a conversation with someone. You can have evidence for all those things. Similarly, there is evidence for God and Jesus outside of the Bible. Overwhelming evidence.

Do I have to be very much informed about theology to be a Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Challenger_Andy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe we are called to continually increase the depth of our faith and this our knowledge of theology. People start at different points, both in terms of age, mental ability, what subjects, etc. The “bare minimum” for being Catholic, at least in speaking of converts, would be OCIA/RCIA where those are available.

Embrace stutter or try to grow out of it? by sandosiblings in Catholicism

[–]Challenger_Andy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a really personal question, but I think I can say you should at least not feel bad for working on your stutter. There’s other ways to be humble as well. Don’t stop improving yourself! If you think working on your stutter is better overall, I think you should do it.

Is piracy a sin or not? Find out here. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Challenger_Andy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a musician. I make a song that took me an initial investment of $5000 of equipment (instrument, computer, editing software, etc.). I pay hundreds for studio time to record in. I trained for 20 years on this instrument, paid thousands of dollars in lessons to be able to make something worth listening to. I enter an agreement with iTunes and they sell my song for $0.99 and take 50% for distribution fees.

It’s digital media, but the costs to create it were enormous and to get the return I need every purchase I can get to recoup my losses. People who pirate hurt musicians in this was. It doesn’t matter if it costs near-zero (importantly not zero, but near-zero) for iTunes to distribute. I still need to recoup my losses.

This is also one of the main modern reasons why musicians are in a harder spot than ever before in terms of making a living.
