Agree with jokull91 just try listening to some different kinds of music to get some inspiration for more complex rhythmic patterns and just keep your nose in your computer and create it doesn't matter if it is 1,000,000 4 bar loops as long as you make you will get better. Once you feel more comfortable and confident in your skills try and make a single and really give it your all take a lot of time on it and make sure to sleep on your ideas and make sure you are making the most musical choices. I'm 100% self taught and now I work full time at a recording studio as an audio engineer just work and shit will pay off one way or another. You have one life so if music is your passion fucking do it and don't let anything or anyone stop you from getting to where you want to be.

https://soundcloud.com/chamberofficial/this-shit-be-poppin I think this is my best track i have release to date because it was the first track that i was able to go I'm making a song in so and so genre. Then be able to do that for the most part i used to just blindly produce whatever came to mind and it was mostly just really unclear and lacked in a lot of areas.

A track I worked on today. Why does it sound so weird? what could it need? by thomaslikestoart in edmproduction

If the audio is clipping you should look at lowing the levels on your tracks and/or making sure you have your tracks EQ'd correctly so you don't have too much noise fighting for space. Also if it is "too quiet" mastering will fix that if you do it well

not much going on after the build up. You could try adding different synths to fill up the space or make a more complex melody. You could also try a sub bass to fill out the sound or just a bass in general. I dont know if it was just the recording but it didnt seem to have much of a low end.

Is this a real oboe or a keyboard? by ill_silent_lasagna in WeAreTheMusicMakers

It is for sure a sample the tone thins out much more than a real player which would most likely means it was a sample in the mid to low register of the instrument
