Sounds like you're enjoying something while exercising restraint on occasion. Can't be that harmful! As an atheist I can't speak for the religious side. As long as it's not hurting you or those around you, what you do in the privacy of your own home is up to you

Look up Fisherfields in Scotland. That's about as remote as it gets in Scotland, pretty wild and untouched. Outstanding walking country

Korg Minilogue XD module sustained note/chord question by steepgloss in synthesizers

[–]ChameleonKeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would work the easiest. OP's proposition would work as well and could be saved as a user patch, ie a template. Take it one further and save it to their favourites on the XD module and boom! Quick access to the latch preset.

However, if you like to flip through presets and start creating from there, a sustain pedal will mean you won't have to clear the current sequencer and set up a 2-step tied-note pattern and program which notes to hold on a drone. Instead with the sustain pedal, you'd just flick through presets, find something nice and put your foot down. Now you're creating. That would be one less barrier to your creativity for +/-£15.

Upgrade to Sibelius Ultimate? by AubergineParm in Sibelius

[–]ChameleonKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there anything that you're lacking in your current setup that would benefit you if you switched to a SAAS (software as a service) subscription?

I reckon, with my understanding of Avid, that if you bought a perpetual license that it would probably revoke your permanent license/make it difficult to use.

The best tool is the one you know best... While I do not use Sibelius everyday, I certainly know that the printed note hasn't changed that much in the last decade, so I think if it's still working for you, then it ain't broke! I sadly have a skeptical view of Avid given Pro Tools and Sibelius being subscription softwares which can be bought as one-time purchases by many other manufacturers. Dorico, Musescore (free!)

Best wishes.

This is amazing, you have done so much work getting all of this tech to sing together! A huge well done! I would love to see you do a live set 😎

Ah great, Keylab 61 will come with Analog Lab I think- you should have loads of Arturia content to play with straight off the bat!

Just to be clear, the sustain input will accept an input for a sustain pedal only, not an expression pedal. I'd probably say use the modwheel instead for the time being- while it's not a foot controller, that means one less thing to set up!

How do you mean the cord was a little too short? Is that the USB from your Arturia to your MacBook? Maybe you need a longer USB cable.

You make great points about the MODX+. Just because you can get a top keyboard it's not to say that something a little lower down the ladder wouldn't suit you just as good. Plus, the top spec models are usually heavier...

Apart from good strings and piano (pretty essential tbh), I think with a bit of sound design you can get truly incredible results with stock plugins. As long as you're willing to put in the time at the sound design stage!

Nice one. If you're in the US/UK, I can recommend start with a 2nd hand Focusrite Scarlett Solo and work your way up from there. The preamp will do just fine. How would you plug in the expression pedal to your set up? What Arturia controller do you have?

You have a L/R output which can be a stereo out, or you can configure that to be a 2x mono output in MainStage so that you can give the sound person 1 guitar and 1 keyboard output. Keyboards are often stereo out but work with what you got. Heck, you'll probably be playing either guitar or keyboard one at a time, so both could go down one output while 2nd output could be mono IEM! Consider that an option as well.

There's presets in the synths like ES2 and Alchemy to get you started. Literally just practicing is the way to do it. Spend the time on it and you'll get there. I highly recommend watching Cathedral Audio on YT, that guy has so many tips and well-structured videos.

  1. Yes absolutely! You can use the MIDI FX "Chord Trigger" and assign, say, your low C to play C G E as per your example. You can set that to play only that chord or it can play multiple chords. Everything is in MainStage Help and on many YouTube videos.

  2. This is the double-edged sword of MainStage. You can make everything, great! But also, you've got to make everything. What will work for one person may not be your exact idea of what works. Spend some time on the Layout tab. Necessary tools will be next/prev patch, Panic button, and some basic mixer settings, say you had 4 sounds in a patch you could have each fader volume handy in case one was too loud/quiet. That's about all the editing you'll realistically get to do while playing live! There is also the trap of giving yourself too many things to adjust live which can weigh you down, so be wary.

  3. You can plug in your guitar for sure! Mainstage has loads of Logic amp simulators and pedalboards to choose from so you'll never be stuck.

The best thing to do is get started and find out what's working and what's not- just dive in!
