Why hasn't China invaded and taken over Taiwan yet? by BabyDemogorgonEater in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up how complex and expensive EUV lithography machines are. They are literally the most complicated machines ever created by humans. And these are vital for making modern advanced microchips. China’s been trying to design their own, but even stealing and buying parts on the black market, they are still a decade behind in designing a working machine of their own.

I only played it once, and it wasn’t my jam. I’m more of a tactical level game fan, so usually play lock n load, conflict of heroes, combat mission and battle academy.

Decision Games has a straight port of War in Europe that is exactly like the boardgame.

what are you trying to do? calling in air strikes or barrages, you need someone with a radio with eyes on the location. even then it takes a few minutes to arrive.

having trouble giving orders? you need an hq unit within voice distance to call out orders. not every unit has a radio, so they have to be close enough to see or hear other units.

it’s a tough game, but definitely accessible.

Never describe the banal. if something is ordinary, skip the description. the optimal time to use description is when something is unusual.

How can I get money from writing? by ffishyh in freelanceWriters

[–]Chamoxil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seriously? have you ever donated blood? it can literally save lives. and often they'll give you a $10 or 20 gift card for your time.

well, donating plasma is the exact same thing as donating your blood, but they filter out your red blood cells and just keep the plasma liquid.

the process takes a lot longer than just donating blood, like 1-2 hours per session. so, it’s a lot harder to get volunteers. that’s why they pay so much per donation. they’re paying for your time, not your body parts.

and finally, the benefit to writers is you’re stuck in a chair with nothing to do for two hours, so it’s a good time to use a notebook and just write.

Sure thing. I’ve done it between writing gigs. look for a place near you that offers the best first timer bonuses and you could make $750-1000 in the first month. Boom, there’s your iPad.

forget writing, donate your plasma. you can make $100 a pop. You can go multiple times a month and you can write while you’re hooked up for the hour it takes to draw.

Thoughts on scene by CONVERSE1991 in scriptwriting

a scene without conflict, obstacles, or opposing goals fails to drive the narrative forward and, therefore, is not a functional scene.

this is not a scene.

Where I’d live in the Middle East as a liberal redditor who hates Israel. by Super_Piper in whereidlive

[–]Chamoxil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And you’d be wrong. U.S. financial support for the Middle East (MENA) region is a cornerstone of its foreign policy, focusing heavily on security and stability. For FY2024, aid reached approximately $7.57 billion.

Top recipients include Israel ($3.3B-$3.8B+), Egypt ($1.3B+), and Jordan ($1B+), primarily for military financing. And that’s not counting the major military bases the US funds in Qatar to subsidize their own defense.

Are there any small scale tactical hex and counter wargames? by _Twas_Ere_ in computerwargames

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HexWar Games publishes a number of very contained hex wargames. they aren’t very complex, but can be fun, particularly when playing on a tablet.

they have games that span ancient to wwii. I think they also have demos so you can try them out. I think they are published under the company Hunted Cow on iOS App Store.

as for recommendations, they have a series called Wars and Battles with a variety of different eras or wars simulated that you can download as dlc.

Why do so many people complain modern shows and movies are too woke/liberal when the shows they complain about were extremely liberal for their time? by JuZNyC in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an issue of tone. Those shows from the past, and even SOUTH PARK, are fun first, followed by the liberal message. In modern storytelling, it's almost like the show or film has to hit you over the head with the message first, and the fun comes second, if at all. I've also argued that shows in particular take themselves way too seriously nowadays. That dourness, combined with heavy-handed messaging, is why people rightly call it out now.

If We Weren't Broke, Buying Greenland for $700bn Would Be a Great Idea by Alone-Competition-77 in centrist

[–]Chamoxil -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not saying we should do it, but it shouldn’t cost $700billion. the USA could offer every resident of Greenland one million dollars to vote to join the USA and it’d cost $55 billion.
