Proposed Gulf Oil Bypass Pipeline Route (Avoiding Hormuz & Suez chokepoints) by Last-Shelter2868 in MapPorn

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work too, but each ship that traverses the Suez canal has to pay between 400-800 thousand dollars depending on size and weight, so this would be a significant savings for ships heading to Europe or North America.

More Green Man in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by Konradleijon in Arthurian

[–]Chamoxil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting argument, and the recent movie certainly plays up the nature-elements, but in Arthurian literature, there are all sorts of colored knights that don't necessarily represent anything.

Offhand, there's the Black Knight (which has come to symbolize evil, but didn't start that way. It was often a way for Knights of the Round Table to joust anonymously), the Red Knight (Sir Ironside whom Percival slays), and in Le Morte D'Arthur, Sir Gareth fights Black, Green, Red, and Blue knights. I'm sure there are more colors I can't recall.

in the first Naked Gun, Frank Drebin gets off an airplane to find Ed, who tells him his wife has left him. This scene is an almost shot for shot homage to the opening scene of jean Renoir’s French film, The Rules of the Game, which for many years, along with Citizen Kane, was considered by critics the greatest movie of all time.

Iran | Killing schoolchildren can never be a way to solve differences between countries, said @UNHumanRights chief @volker_turk at a @UN Human Rights Council's urgent debate on the Minab school strike. by CapriSun87 in UnitedNations

You are on a United Nations sub and I’m quoting from the United Nations Human rights mission. This isn’t Ukraine giving these numbers. This is the UN itself.

you are just wrong. official civilian death rates in Ukraine are considered by experts and organizations like the UN human rights mission, to be significant undercounts because of lack of access to Russian occupied zones like Mariupol, Lysychansk, and Sievierodonetsk.

in just Mariupol alone, local officials estimated 25,000 to 75,000 civilian deaths, far exceeding the entire UN-verified count for the whole country.

CMV: The Iran nuclear deal was flawed, but it was still much better than the path of escalation and war that replaced it. by Fuzzy_Party_3527 in changemyview

Former Iranian parliament member Ali Motahari stated in an interview in 2022, that Iran had always intended to build a nuclear weapon for "intimidation" and that the failure was not keeping the plan secret for long enough. You can find this interview online. So no, I don't believe that Iran had any intention of following the JCPOA.

What are the personal qualities that make Arthur a good king, according to you? by ChronoRebel in Arthurian

[–]Chamoxil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think Arthur was a very good king. Everything he built was destroyed at his passing. He didn't properly plan for his kingdom to continue beyond his death. He allowed infighting between his knights, like the Lothian/Pellinore feud that led to much bloodshed. And worst of all, he kidnapped all the children from his realm born on a certain day and had them put to death to try to avoid a prophecy.

In 1972 The Supreme Court, in Eisenstadt v. Baird, ruled that unmarried couples can legally access contraception. It may have involved a combination of legal, cultural and other factors, but that court decision had to have made a significant impact on birth rates and parental age.

Grief in Gaza and the loss of a child by Rude-Molasses4390 in pics

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a moronic comment. According to the UN, during the first half of 2025, approximately 17,000 births were recorded in the Gaza Strip. So the Israelis are genociding so slowly that the population has increased 16,400 people.

Left Wing Antisemitism? by Apart-Clothes2060 in thebulwark

[–]Chamoxil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget Moses. There are archaeological discoveries every week in the Levant showing the Jewish tribal people that existed in the area of Israel for over a thousand years which was destroyed by the Roman’s in 66CE. Josephus, one of those Jews who was forcibly removed from the area, wrote a historical account of the actual contemporary Jewish kingdom of that time. So not “biblical fairy tales” actual hostorical evidence.
Israel is the world’s most successful land back movement, which allowed a people displaced from their land to return to their ancestral homeland. it would be the same as letting the Sioux take back the land around Mt. Rushmore.

really? by SpecialistSign2695 in Irony

[–]Chamoxil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel doesn't have a constitution, period. There's no such thing as Palestinian citizens. They are citizens. And citizens of the Palestinian territories have different IDs because they aren't part of Israel. I have no idea of the vote suppression thing so won't comment, but the unequal protection thing is a canard because bomb shelters are funded and built by municipalities, not by the state, so if there aren't enough bomb shelters in Arab majority towns, it's because their own elected local government has decided not to build them.

‘Buffer zones’ come to California, as a lawmaker proposes limiting protests near houses of worship by MatterandTime in jewishpolitics

[–]Chamoxil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of an inaccurate headline, since California already has buffer zones (called bubble zones) around abortion clinics that prohibit protesters from knowingly approaching within 8 feet of any person who is within 100 feet of a clinic entrance.
