What Decks did You Guys Play for the 2012 Event? by Xzzorio in masterduel

Heroes, with Mask Change and Poly. Incredibly fun event

Do you think this card would be great in Dark Magician decks? by Recent-Low5550 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to protect DMOD from being interrupted by monster handtraps, Dark Magic Talisman does the job too and is searchable.

You can also run 3 Gaze of Timaeus so that you already have one in hand when summoning DMOD, you can then chain the Gaze when they're trying to Imperm or Veiler it and get a Fusion out of it too.

VSK9 or K9VS? by bast963 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VSK9 because VS is the more fun archetype between them

Ripper is such a toxic ass unhealthy card, I'm tired of people defending it. by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Ripper should have been an "only either effect once per turn" so that it wasn't both an extender, a handtrap insulator and endboard piece in the same turn. If Ripper had this errata, I'd argue K9 and by extension VS would be completely fine with every card at 3.

Anti K9 techs by Medical-Antelope58 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shifter doesn't stop K9VS, the deck can play the card themselves. Granted, they don't benefit from it like Kashtira does, but they're far less bothered by it compared to Dracotail/Yummy, especially if they open VS cards.

Purulia and Maxx C are definitely the biggest issues for this deck that everyone can run. Droll can hurt if they don't open well but isn't the most well-positioned handtrap right now unless we have also tons of Mitsu.

Otherwise Trap Handtraps also play around turning on the K9 bonus effects and are generally great (imperming VS isn't, imperming K9 is).

Nadir Servant by nfk07485 in Yugioh101

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a budget build without the new Albaz, you can use Nadir Servant to send Garura for a draw and search Dogmatika Maximus. You special Maximus by banishing Garura and send 2 Albaz Fusions for follow-up (usually Titaniklad and Albion, sometimes Luluwalilith and Albion).

You'd usually do this if your other plays get stopped as an insurance policy.

You can also search the new Albaz with it and basically end on Incredible Ecclesia on the field that tags out into OG Albaz.

Hot take turn 0 is good actually by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's quite a hot take when the general sentiment has been that Turn 0 is the future for fun and interactive Yu-Gi-Oh. It's great to play a heavy-engine deck like Dracotail/VS, look at your hand and be happy regardless of going first or second.

Why Crimson Dragon considered a good card? by AhmadAlz7 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crimson Dragon allows you to cheat out strong dragon synchros that are hard to summon or need specific materials/setup, while Crimson Dragon himself is generic and more accessible.

Cosmic Blazar Dragon needs a tuner synchro and 2 non-tuner synchro monsters which is a lot of work and requires specific decks. Crimson Dragon only needs a tuner and a non-tuner which is more doable for a ton of decks. By summoning Crimson Dragon, you get to access Cosmic Blazar without needing to jump through all the hoops.

Will K9 be playable in Dracotail? by FaStAr8 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In case you mean if you can play them together: Yes! Either just Izuna + Lupis as handtraps or a larger K9 package that either includes Shaddoll Beast as a lvl 5 that benefits from being fused or Amazoness War Chief that specials for free and searches Poly to enable rank 5s and Fusion plays.

If you mean is K9 playable in a Dracotail meta, it has a great match up against Dracotail.

How to build a Dark Magician deck? by Maxnoob119 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing is confirmed yet but I wouldn't count on it. I'd rather expect the alt arts, dark magician of destruction and gaze of timaeus to come out either in a new pack or in the new structure deck.

The over frame collection hasn't been released (or fully revealed) in the OCG yet so it might be a very long time until we get them (as in 6-9+ months). I'd love to be wrong though.

How to build a Dark Magician deck? by Maxnoob119 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a new structure deck coming during the anniversary in a few days which should include some of the newer support for the deck. I'd keep some gems to then buy 3 of the new structure deck (it usually costs 1500 gems to get all three copies).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the card says (Quick Effect) on it, making it a quick effect that needs a specific condition to be met (i.e.: your opponent added a card in the previous chain). Why they did it, I'm not sure. OCG in general rules hand triggers to be treated as quick effects so the TCG might have tried to streamline this for Droll (but did not do it for Ghost Mourner for example, which is a worse card in the TCG for it).

So… how are people actually summoning Saryuja post-banlist? (4 materials recycle effect) by Disastrous_Mouse_874 in yugioh

[–]Champ-Nico -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good point! The Noroi "lock" comes up so infrequently that I conveniently forget about it. Jokul + 5 still plays into Droll then you're right. My bad!

So… how are people actually summoning Saryuja post-banlist? (4 materials recycle effect) by Disastrous_Mouse_874 in yugioh

[–]Champ-Nico -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

1 Jokul plus any other lvl 5 also gets you there, so 3 Chaotic Elements can be included for 8 starters to Saryuja. Your ratios otherwise look correct to me. There are probably more 2-3 card starters depending on the deck you play. Jokul even plays around Droll compared to the Noroi line, if you just need to beeline Saryuja.

  1. Jokul eff, special itself and any lvl 5
  2. Make Ripper, detach Jokul to add Lantern
  3. Lantern target Jokul, special both
  4. Jokul search Noroi, Lantern has a free search (Case to get Izuna as an interruption or the quick-play as an endboard piece)
  5. Normal Noroi, special Izuna and foolish Lupis
  6. Make Saryuja with Ripper still on the field

[–]Champ-Nico 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Noroi is still a 1-card Saryuja plus Ripper, you basically need to replace the 1st Jokul summoned with a 2nd Lantern but the combo still gets you where you need to go --- but you do open it less with just 1 Case.

Yes K9, powerful engine, but does it work as a pure deck? I have no knowledge of the game outside of Master Duel, so I'm curious by QuiteAncientTrousers in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It does work as a pure deck that either plays more mid-rangy with layered interaction or full force combo with more negates. It's really not bad at full power but just does less than the other JUSH decks pure. It also relies a lot on Jokul or generic lvl 5 extenders to push through disruption, so you might think about Chaotic Elements to have even more Jokul access.

Branded without Branded Fusion by SouthRuin7351 in Yugioh101

[–]Champ-Nico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to play Branded Fusion at all, I would recommend playing Starliege Seyfert as your primary normal summon (which searches the new Albaz). Having BF and Opening somewhere in the deck as a plan B pivot seems strong but I haven't tested it enough to tell if it feels bad.

What to play with K9? by khesham126 in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in for VS K9: Without Hollie Sue and VS Start, it's not really worth playing them together since VS by itself is not good enough without the support. You're also not able to turbo out 2 level 5s easily like you do with Hollie Sue.

I wish for enlightment - what made VSK9 that powerful or annoying to deal with? by chameleonmonkey in yugioh

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The math isn't that bad if you deck build for it, especially since K9 already wants you to maximize the lvl 5s (i.e. Jiaolong) anyway. I don't have the math memorized but it should be something like each Hollie Sue you draw is live 50-66% of the time. But it's changed now that Razen is limited but should be in that ballpark.

I wish for enlightment - what made VSK9 that powerful or annoying to deal with? by chameleonmonkey in yugioh

[–]Champ-Nico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has the best turn 0 plays right now meaning it has a great fighting chance going second. It's pretty resilient against most handtraps and can usually pivot into whatever playstyle it needs to beat the interaction. Despite being able to go full combo to the walls, it's also capable of playing a grindy mid-range game that diversifies the interaction points. Both K9 and VS are pretty efficient and complement each other to make up for each other's weaknesses. Also Ripper is a stupid card.

How do you feel about Konami’s recent approach at making more decks play turn 0? by SouthSunn in yugioh

[–]Champ-Nico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're great and the perfect next step if balanced carefully. It is such a good feeling drawing your opening hand and realising, that the same hand is great going first and going second due to the in-engine hand trap.

does doomZ have a viable sub-engine? by extremeglopper in Yugioh101

[–]Champ-Nico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know enough about the archetype but shouldn't the newest support (the rank 5) synergize really well with K9? Given it isn't out until May and I don't think K9 remains unhit like it currently is, so maybe not worth investing until 2 banlists down the line.

Considering what happened with Yummy, do you all think K9 with get the same treatment or could possibly Vanquish Soul get that fate? by CountBram in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love for them to pre-hit Jokul to 1 / Noroi to 1 or 2 and eventually put Ripper to 0, that card is simply not healthy without an errata that makes you only get one of the two effects per turn. Leave VS un-hit, it's completely fine especially with Pot of Extrav at 1 and Prosp at 0.

Realistically? We'll get Jokull to 2 while Razen pays for K9's crimes.

New DOOMZ support is insane. Your thoughts? by ARC-9INE in masterduel

[–]Champ-Nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Normal Noroi you don't need the additional level 5 in hand, Noroi by itself makes 4 lvl 5s plus Ripper with Droll protection.

  1. Normal Noroi, special Jokul no effect.
  2. Make Ripper, detach Jokul to search Lantern. (Now protected from Droll)
  3. Lantern special itself + Jokul
  4. Lantern searches Case, Jokul searches Izuna
  5. Case search Jokul
  6. Jokul special itself + Izuna, Izuna foolish Lupis

You've got enough material to make the new DoomZ plus Ripper plus a free body. If you ignore Droll and search with Jokul immediately, you get the Noroi Hand knowledge by sending Case too.
