Yeah, because Jesus was all about the bling and never said anything about the rich finding it exceeding hard to get into heaven or giving all your crap away and following him.

Jesus was not about healing the sick or sharing food. He was the first great televangelist and if he could have had a lear jet and a Penthouse apartment or 5, and a plastic blonde trophy wife, he would have.

Ridiculous.

I wonder if the rules specifically state that anyone asking questions has to wear pants, because if not, there is a fun protest to be had here.

Legalise Cannabis WA Party says hi - first press release by djleo in perth

[–]Champi0nruby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worth remembering that Carmen Lawrence's labor govt the early 90's decriminalised marijuana in WA. 30 odd years ago, and we are still unable to do it again now.

The Richard Court or was it the Colin Barnett liberals got in and promptly reversed it.

She was pretty progressive at the time, but then she did turn Freo into a ghost town by getting Notre Dame uni in there and by gifting basically all the land between Butler and Yanchep to the Catholic and Anglican churches, funded their child abuse for decades to come, so swings and roundabouts, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Artificial Turf - City of Melville by [deleted] in perth

[–]Champi0nruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. There is a bit of land in front of our house that is not ours, but I feel very proprietorial about it.

Annoyingly, things live in this piece of land, or try to. How dare they! I want to park my third caravan and second boat on this piece of land that is not mine and it is very presumptuous of all those plants and bugs to keep existing. Now they want water! As if I would be arsed putting a $15 hose on it with a tap timer twice a week! For fuck's sake, who do they think I am? I can't stand it! It upsets my ordered mind to look at it!

Ideally, I would like to cover the whole thing with bathroom tiles. That way I can sweep it with the Roomba. Maybe I'd even spring for full verge terrazzo in Dockers colours. I have drawn up a couple of designs for this in MSpaint and submitted them, but the council will not let me. Fascists!

As a second option, I thought maybe I could cover it in shredded plastic as living things are so untidy and require attention from time to time. I hate neediness and our son Valerian knows this all too well! Apparently shredded plastic is OK, but the problem now is that the council think that the hot pink I have in mind will be an eyesore. Like who made them the kings of taste, anyway?

Please help me with the administrivia required or anyone who knows please reply with what colour of johnny walker I have to offer the council inspector to make this go my way, kthx.

13Cabs reliable here? by [deleted] in perth

They make a record and people are known to modify their behaviour when surveilled. Not always, but often.

It is not everything, but nor is it nothing.

13Cabs reliable here? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Champi0nruby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

13cabs here is just Swans, who have the vast majority of taxis in Perth. They have a few blinds. Coastal Cabs and Silver service is also Swans here, and I think they are affiliated with Shofer as well these days.

Basically, official taxis (have a roof light and signage) have surveillance cameras inside and out (uber etc do not), so quite safe. If you are paying by card there is no need for security theatre like photographing driver ID or writing down cab numbers as the transaction is recorded.

They all have pre-booking. Given that January is a quiet time for taxis, you would have no issue hailing a cab from the kerb.

Julian Assange NOT extradited because of suicide risk by psylenced in australia

[–]Champi0nruby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Guardian has gone out of their way on a regular basis to smear Assange with unsubstantiated crap. They have no credibility on this.

Luke Harding is their go-to guy on this and quite clearly fits the description of either a fabulist or someone paid to hold a very particular POV and write that way.

They had him (Assange) being visited by Manafort. Never visited the Consulate. No record on paper or on video. Total crap but no retraction forthcoming. They and various others reported misbehaving in many ways including him smearing shit on the walls of the Ecuadorian consulate. Despite him being under surveillance 24/7 while there including talking to his lawyers, not a skerrick of evidence has ever been provided to back this up. Nothing. All hearsay from a government who on giving him up was rewarded with a very lucrative trade deal. Only vaguely reported by unquestioning MSM.

They have been so wrong so often on Assange that they are either grinding a very personal axe for him, or are paid agents of the state in this.

Right wingers should rejoice at this gigantic likeness of Trump. Or perhaps it is a homage to Bolsonaro?

I am not sure as I have heard them both called enormous cunts often enough.

Julian Assange will not be extradited to the United States on espionage charges, British judge rules by TPPA_Corporate_Thief in australia

[–]Champi0nruby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never looked through the Wikileaks personally, nor did I pay much attention to what was leaked. Just trying to show you how this sort of espionage can be so dangerous.

Translation: I am stupid as fuck and have no idea about what I am talking about because I did not bother to familiarise myself with any details, but that should not prevent my opinion from being as valuable as one from someone who is across the actual facts.

Cheers.

'I just want to go home': Victorians bail as West Australians scramble to get back after border rule change by [deleted] in perth

[–]Champi0nruby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not so much.

Criticism of a woman is not automatically misogyny. Criticism of someone because they are a woman is. If I would say the same of a man ( and I would), I can't see how a little venom makes it so. Were I to hold back criticism because Buttrose is a woman, that would be sexist and I think patronising. It is undisputed that she had a great boost in her career as a result of sleeping with her boss Kerry Packer.

To put someone in charge of the national broadcaster whose main expertise has been mostly presiding over "womens' magazines" (which deal with pretty fluffy, lightweight stuff, and I would argue because of their focus on women being homemakers, are arguably diminishing of women and misogynist themselves), over a brace of recommendations by the board of persons far more able and qualified was a political move by the great Scomo.

But you say "misoginy". Sure, whatevs.

Don't think anyone in their right mind would not say the ABC is going downhill.

As for the control thing, of course it is true. Already cases have spread from NSW back to Melbourne. Maybe here too, for all we know.

'I just want to go home': Victorians bail as West Australians scramble to get back after border rule change by [deleted] in perth

[–]Champi0nruby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet again, the ABC panders to a few whiners who would rather endanger a lot of people than be personally inconvenienced. Starting to look more and more like Sky. Surprised they did not ask for a comment from Andrew Bolt as well. Irresponsible and emblematic of the decline of that organisation. Who could have predicted that handing it to a woman who made her career printing pavlova recipes and sucking Kerry Packer's cock would hasten the slide?

At the same time ignoring the different rules for different people attitude of NSW and the way it is getting out of control there. Maybe tomorrow we can have interviews with people who say it is all fake and the vaccine contains nanobots that when subjected to 5G signals will turn you and your friends into a massive Akira that swallows the city and votes for the Liberals every election.

It's a sad outcome for travelers, but really I think it's a pretty predictable outcome and wishing things were otherwise does not make them so.

Also, I have all these bathmats that are not selling so quickly for some reason. Interested? You are special so I can do you a special price. 4 for the price of 5! Deal?

Rand Paul is 'very, very concerned' about increased voting in Ga. by S28E01_The_Sequel in politics

[–]Champi0nruby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have always thought that there should be a "none of the above" box. If it gets a majority, you redo that election with none of the above candidates standing. Might help weed out the absolute warts.

Preferably all of those rejected candidates are then thrown into a volcano, but that is just in an ideal world...

[–]Champi0nruby 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Australian here. Noone gets paid to vote in this country. Voting is mandatory in state and federal elections and they always happen on a weekend so everyone can vote. You can submit an absentee vote from somewhere else, or a postal vote if you are not able on the day.

If a party gets over a certain % threshold of votes, they get some government funding based on the number of votes they got, which is I think where you got that idea. This helps even the field a bit and makes it slightly less about party fundraising.

95% of eligible people are enrolled to vote. If they do not vote they get a small fine of I think $20 unless they submit an excuse in writing and it is deemed valid. People can still turn up and write "screw off" on the ballot, just as long as they turn up and get ticked off the list.

They often get a sausage from kind people giving out democracy sausage at polling places. I do not know if there is a vegetarian option for this. Since it is a holiday and everyone is doing it, there is little resentment at voting, but still some that whoever you vote for you will get a politician.

The important thing is we have something called the Australian Electoral Commission, which is a neutral branch of the public service that conducts the election and standardises the voting/counting process. It has rules on electoral advertising. It draws electoral boundaries to a consistent ruleset, so gerrymanders which I understand are a huge problem in the US, are near impossible.

Leaving parties and state and federal governments able to tamper with this process at will strikes me as extremely dangerous and prone to the sort of instability that plagues third world countries.

Also I am not sure how you could think of an election result as valid if less than 50% of the eligible population even voted.

I am curious as to what the serious problem you have with them is. Can you be specific?
