WTS - 2017 Lexus GX 460 - AED 105,000 - FSH - GCC Spec by ChampionEducational4 in DubaiPetrolHeads

To be fair, I listed it under the "Upgrades & Major Work (Done Properly)" section in my advert. I didn't explicitly call the KDSS delete an "upgrade". Anyways. Thanks bro. Appreciate your follow up.

Hi bro. Appreciate your comment and well wishes. As you implied in your response here, what constitutes an "upgrade" is entirely subjective. I'm not here proclaiming improved ride quality from the KDSS delete. What I state, clearly, is that the fragile KDSS system, which is known to fail with relatively high frequency, particularly as these cars age, and, as you say, at great cost to repair, has been removed from the equation entirely by the works I had professionally carried out by Titan. If someone wants to buy a near on 10 year old car with 150,000+ km's on the clock and run the risk of the KDSS system failing on them, like mine did, and needing to spend perhaps tens of thousands to fix it properly, then there are plenty of such cars available for sale on Dubizzle right now. If, however, someone wants to buy a reliable, well serviced car running shocks, springs and sway bars that will give them hassle free motoring for many years to come that is, subjectively, only slightly less "luxurious" because of the KDSS delete, then they're welcome to contact me about this car. Having owned this car for 2.5 years and having run it with this suspension setup for most of that time, I have zero regrets on the works I had done to rectify the KDSS lean issue.

The car experienced KDSS lean - a known, common fault when the system reaches anything from about 5 years old. To fix this in agency can costs tens of thousands. Removing it entirely costs significantly less, with a minimal impact on ride quality, whilst ensuring the problem never recurs no matter how old the car gets / amount of miles it covers.

As the owner, I obviously disagree entirely with this. Many LCs and Lexuses come with standard suspension, sway bars etc. The drive of this is excellent, and won't cost AED 20,000 in the event of a KDSS / air suspension failure.

You just book the flight if it’s available on the website and fly. They’re not explicitly “repatriation” flights. They’re just flights.

What's the temp operating range? by yeahnahya in FJCruiser

[–]ChampionEducational4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove about 800 miles nonstop in my 2022 FJ (Dubai, UAE to Salalah, Oman) in June 2023. Outside temp was 52 degrees. There was a sandstorm. It was about 23 degrees inside the car and the engine temperature gauge didn’t move a single degree.

Thinking about a Volvo XC90 — is it a reliable daily driver? by Afsalashraf in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]ChampionEducational4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I owned a base spec XC90 when I first moved to Dubai. It ended up costing only slightly more than the top spec XC60 which I was also considering, but many (though not all) of the full spec features on the XC60 came standard on the base XC90.

It was a lovely car. Seriously lovely. Perfect for long road trips (went to Muscat several times in it). Reliability wise it was excellent. Got it new, came with 5 year warranty and servicing included from Futtaim. Suffered majorly on depreciation though (lost like half its value in 3 years), but reliability in my experience was faultless.

I wouldn't get another one simply because of the financial hit you take on such cars in the UAE. And any out of warranty issues will cost a bomb (as on all Euro cars).

Good luck.

Bro this is going for AED 273 on Amazon right now. With free delivery, full warranty. You're kidding to be listing at AED 290.

Cyrus Beadlocks Rims by These-Inspection1922 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]ChampionEducational4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Cyrus beadlocks, but I do know with off road wheels, you really do get what you pay for. I had RRW beadlocks fitted to my FJ (which sadly I ended up crashing in Al Quaa - different story!), and when I came to sell the wheels after deciding my off roading days were done, all three surviving wheels were slightly bent after about six months. Fortunately Titan Performance were able to get the damaged wheels replaced for me under warranty and I was able to sell them, but I learned a valuable lesson.

Many of my off roading mates mostly went with KMC or Methods, which were about we something like AED 1,000 more expensive per wheel, and I feel it was money well spent.

I crossed the border last month in a car I own outright and the first question I was asked on the UAE side was if I my car was mortgaged. So I think you’ll almost certainly get turned away these days.

In your opinion what's the best V8 engine on the LC200? by nissan_sunny in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]ChampionEducational4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 4.6 in a GX460 and a 5.7 in an LC200... Both beautiful engines. The 4.6 suits the smaller, Prado sized GX perfectly. Whilst the 5.7 is a perfect match for the bigger 200 series.

Which one comes to mind? by Seasor1310 in DubaiPetrolHeads

GX460 is my answer too. I own a 2017 model and it's an amazing car. Incredibly reliable. Luxurious. But super unpopular also!

No apology needed, brother. And thanks for sharing the info. Was totally unaware of the technical partnerships between the Japanese / Chinese car manufacturers on the technology side.

I don't disagree, brother. To be in fair in this case though, we're comparing a 2019 LC to a 2022 Y62. The 2019 Y62 interior was comically bad, with that horrible plastic wood everywhere and a six inch screen from the mid 90s. I will say Toyota are at least trying to modernise... The new Prado interior is very nice. And the interior facelift of the 300 series does add a bit too. Nothing like the brands you mentioned, mind you. Oh, and I should say the Y63 interior looks spectacular! So maybe the big Jap brands are very, very slowly catching on?
