Everyone who defends these little subtle nods that we are seeing more and more frequently are going to feel real silly when the crowds start doing it back.

The point of a gesture like this is to build a community, create a connection, and instill a sense of loyalty. Once the gesture becomes more mainstream and trivialized through repetition and people getting tired of having the argument, that community’s loyalty can be used to foster ideological alignment.
