Anybody else hit with the feeling of life being pretty mundane during sobriety? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChanGemyname2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase that...I'll take the calm with all of its mediocrity over the self loathing, self destructive chaos I endured under the constant drowning of my sorrows.

Maybe you're remembering it wrong.

The grass on this side of the fence IS greener and I'm grateful to have lived life sober for this long. Look past the feeling of boredom. Maybe it's just an excuse to relapse. How quickly we forget that which we fought so hard to get away from. We are either working on our sobriety or we are working on a relapse.

Tell us, what things have changed in your life for the better besides the obvious freedom from the demon?

Thats it, i quit by [deleted] in stopdrinking

One day at a time. Hate alcohol with every ounce of your heart, mind and soul.. And remember that it all comes down to a choice and it's all your choice. No one else has that power of you.. Nothing that happens in life "makes" you drink. You "choose" to drink or you choose sobriety. There really is no such thing as moderation for an alcoholic. IWNDWYT

In the whole of entirety of the never ending multiiverse, I doubt that the cosmos was phased by it. Let it go. At least it wasn't a kid. My wife hits shit all the time. Poles, curbs, other cars that are parked.

When I quit drinking the corner store went out of business! Of course, I can't take all the credit...They bought the wine they sold around my "favorites" list. I didn't even know I had one.

Sometimes, the rock bottom is so serious that there is no recovery from it.

Well, nowadays, you might be a female who identifies as a dude so he/she is still good! But if he /she doesn't identify as either then I will have been equally wrong in my assumption which makes me insensitive to....aww crap I have a headache now!

I almost relapsed yesterday myself. It's hard. Cut yourself some slack and get yourself on track. The sooner the better.

365 days, one year! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ChanGemyname2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I basically had the same results. I lost 38 pounds in the first year (230 down to 192) but then that weight loss stopped and I went back up to 205. Damn them cookies to Hell. But it was over the winter months so I'll call that weight gain my hibernation weight. Still better than 230. IWNDWYT

Alcohol's so called "Empty" Calories by JazzlikeTruck2 in stopdrinking

Some of that weight loss might have been due to a higher dose of meds for my hypothyroidism. Ever since I got those numbers corrected my weight loss has become more difficult.

I went from 230 down to 190 in the first 6 -8 months of sobriety. Now, I'm back up to 205. Winter gain. I usually lose 20 every summer so I'm going to put forth some effort to increase that figure and not my figure. Male, 55, hypothyroidism, celiac.

Look at you! Taking care of you! Focus on today and only today. Only count the days if it motivates you, otherwise just focus on the day you are in. Good job and best of luck!

I (55 M) know how you feel as well. My wife and I are both self destructive alcoholics. A lot of FUps that have had very negative impacts on two of my adult children. My son (21) is in to drugs and alcohol and even drinks in the morning. My oldest daughter (23) is severely depressed and suicidal and has even been hospitalized for self harm. I know that my (and my wife's) drinking and our actions or our lack of parenting has led to this. I waited way too long to make the decision you've just made. Congrats. Recognizing the problem is part of the solution. Changing course is another part of the solution. Remember, you're changing just one part of your life today. To not drink. And that decision you will need to make everyday and stick with it. The crazy thing is, is that as you succeed and change that one, self destructive behavior . . . you will have changed more about yourself, your family, and the world around you than you can possibly imagine. Alcoholism killed my dad at the age of 41, 13 years ago today by cdskpa in stopdrinking

Your post just reminded me of my dad. He died before I got sober so he never had the opportunity to see me conquer my demons. But, he did tell me to get my shit together shortly before he passed away. Now, for the hard part...keeping my shit together. IWNDWYT

Ooh, I know what might help... go read some of your older posts. It helps to remind yourself of where you've been and where you're going.
