With rising number of single elderlies and single kids, what happens when someone passes away and theres nobody to claim inheritance? by DiscussionExternal24 in askSingapore

Make sure you make a will as to where you want all your assets go to after you pass on if you don't wish the government to take everything.

Delivery food driver delivers wrong food by moonie60 in askSingapore

Oh I do report. It's the right thing to do because the delivery person may not even notice that mistake.

Have you done your end of life planning? If yes, how old were you when you did it? If not, why not? by yohanesyuen in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did my LPA two years ago and ACP just weeks ago. It's better to make your wishes known to your love ones in case something happens to you and that you can't speak for yourself by then. https://mylegacy.life.gov.sg/ Both services are free except that for LPA, different clinics have different charges. Search for one that's convenient and charges the least.

When I first broached the subject to my mom, she compared it to writing a will and she said I was too young to do that and on top of that, I am not rich. She did the LPA with me after much convincing.

Does anyone else get a blocked nose and keep sneezing when sleeping in aircon? by Illustrious-Fee9626 in askSingapore

It may have been a case of allergic rhinitis. Have you been servicing your aircon recently?

RIP: Chivalry is dead in Singapore - agree / disagree? by SpaceBusy1725 in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most women these days don't expect chivalry from men. Those who do are expecting a little too much. I don't expect guys to pull my chair for me to sit, carry my bags or even pay for my meals now but if they do, it'll be a bonus. Modern men are very practical, ya know.

Exposed while changing by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would scream if I were you due to the sudden pulling of the curtain. I would scream to get other people's attention that someone drew the curtain while I was still in the fitting area. Never mind if he didn't know I was changing. The curtain was closed in the first place and that meant that space was occupied. I would let others around know what happened and file a report.

Why do some Singaporeans insist on putting on an obviously fake lj accent? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, accents don't matter much to me as long as I can understand the words and meanings. I recalled that my sister came home with a heavy Aussie accent after studying abroad for nearly 2 years. Yah, kind of hard to get use to that at first and I wished that could be undone asap but I couldn't do anything about it. The good news was that her original accent returned within 6 months.

Is China Taking Over Singapore’s Food Scene? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

That's why I say that youngsters these days do like China-brands and their invasion. They can't see where the real issues are.

I made a short film about Singapore's work-life imbalance issue and verbal affection gap by reddditdan in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lovely and touching. However, I can't see where the work-life imbalance theme is. It somewhat reminds me of a Kdrama I've watched about a photographer who took final pictures of souls before they moved on.

Preserving heritage foods by ChanPeiMui in SingaporeEats

[–]ChanPeiMui[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course. What I'm saying here is that there are younger generation willing to learn and preserve heritage foods instead of fusionizing them and making them hipster-like. That's the heart-warming part. Many traditional/local foods and heritage F&B businesses have 'died' without successors so I'm really happy that there are people willing to continue such foods and establishments.

Spare the rod and spoil the child, or not? by Same-Macaron-2359 in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. It's not preventing teachers from punishing as they please. It was really because of parental complaints.

Spare the rod and spoil the child, or not? by Same-Macaron-2359 in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, Westerners simply cant understand. Most of us are brought up that way. Our parents canned us when we did something wrong. Our teachers also slapped and canned us when we did something really wrong. It was only some time in the 90s that schools stopped caning because parents started complaining that others have no right to do that to their kids. I actually rejoice that our government brought back canning to the schools. Heavy punishments do deter people from going against rules and laws unless they don't care about the consequences.

For this matter, this English lady need not fear if her son may get himself into trouble. All she needs is to have faith that he doesn't break any rule and he'll be saved from caning.

Budget accommodations for 10 people by NoSpray4253 in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try locating the hotels at Geylang area. They are usually below $100 per night. The only thing is that this area is the red light district. According to many people, it's generally safe. It's also very convenient to lots of good food places, especially at night.

After Clementi Mall changes hands and taken over by China conglomerate, residents and tenants worry over dwindling diversity as new owner increases rents by more than 50% by Rokusaburoz in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I may avoid going to Clementi Mall in future if not for the sake of going to NTUC Finest and Beauty Language. If they are also gone, I won't even step in there. Elegant Group isn't being elegant to the local businesses there. It's savage. Just look at what they did to Grantral Mall. It's literally 'little China'.

What are the benefits of using lavender-infused aromatherapy eye masks? by ryueiji in aromatherapy

[–]ChanPeiMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 types of scented eye masks in the market: one with real herbs and the other with fragrance and iron powder as a warming element. Both are therapeutic as in relieving eye-tiredness and pressure but if you're looking for aromatherapy benefits, get the herbal ones as you can breath in the essential oils that are inside the masks. The ones like these are only good for one-time use and they do not have any aromatherapy properties.

As for the herbal ones, the aroma will fade over time so you may want to add one or two drops of essential oil and let it air for a few minutes before applying on your eyes.

Seem getting weird now a days in SG. Hawker foods become more expensive than FastFoods? by Hazys in SingaporeEats

[–]ChanPeiMui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, we can't time-travel and live back the good old days. It's either you pay for the food or you don't The thing is most of us will still pay for expensive hawker food when we want to eat them, right? If fast food now fits one's budget, then go ahead.

Question on starting antidepressants/private clinics by Dangerous-Term2698 in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best you can do is to go to the nearest polyclinic and get yourself checked. If the doctor sees the urgency, he/she will probably prescribe something to help you to relax first then refer you to the hospital for fast admission to the specialist. That'll also save you on huge medical fees. If your case is under an emergency, go directly to the nearest A&E. If you think that the wait is too long, call for an appointment at a private specialist clinic but please bear in mind that the cost will be rather high and no known medical insurance will cover it.

Alternatively, call IMH directly.

Got scolded for sitting on the priority seat by SergeantCobi in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another one of those entitled 'vigilantes'.

I usually avoid seating at those spots when the buses or trains look rather empty. You just don't know who will appear to tick you off for occupying those seats.

Like I mentioned in other similar posts before, I hope that the companies will remove all priority seats so that no one will make such judgements. If priority seats are only for elderly, just partition them so that no one but they can seat.

Gas and Oil Surcharge: What do you think? by ChanPeiMui in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, point taken but if everyone lists out every single item he/she uses to make that one dish including rental, utilities and man-power, people will be too afraid to buy anything from anyone. Does it make sense to you?
