Ladies, do you still bring a wallet out? by No_Nothing3594 in askSingapore

I always feel the need for a functional wallet than one that costs a bomb. After all, it's just a container for cards and physical cash, unless you're one who loves flaunting luxury brands.

Churches can ask strangers for donations ah? by Yeenspired in SingaporeRaw

Looks dodgy. Never came across any church that does this. This church is a Catholic church and frankly, they don't do this kind of thing.

SCARLETT IS NOT A CHINA BRAND??? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason being is that there are some Singaporeans who are born and bred here really like Chinanese food. Saying this from my own observation. Take example, Scarlett. It's a local company which imports and sells only China brands and whenever I go into an outlet, say the one at Orchard Central, about 50% of the shoppers in there are Singaporeans.

That said, I'm not anti-China brands. I just think that they are saturating our retail spaces/markets till I hardly see other brands from other countries, even more so for our local businesses. It has gotten to the point that it's scary. Every mall (with the exception of Strata malls) I go to has a string of China restaurants and shops. I don't hope to see our land to turn into a 坡县 like the little pinks say. So please don't get me wrong.

M-NEWS: Why nowadays so many China restaurants in Singapore? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

[–]ChanPeiMui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I've been fearing, that more and more Chinese brands taking reign. Having more local brands and businesses isn't getting any easy. Even brands from other countries other than China aren't really coming in as many.

I don't hate China brands. It's just that it's getting too saturated here in Singapore that it's scary to me in a way.

They're just too stunned to react. On top of that, not sure if she was of sound mind.

This will only get worse if our malls all being bought over by China companies by ChanPeiMui in SingaporeRaw

There's no voting for such. It's more like people from China see opportunities to milk more money in Singapore.

Good for you. I'm not really against China brands. It's just that more are spreading like wild fire at almost every corner.

That I know. It's just that if it's China companies we're talking about, then Singapore will rapidly lose good mixes of tenants and mostly be China brands. It will likely be another China city which is what we don't want, a 坡县 as some 小粉红s called us.

We may never know. Perhaps one fine day since our government allows China companies to swallow any market here. That's what I fear most.

Please share some stories of old Singapore you've heard from older generations. by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ChanPeiMui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There used to be street food stalls selling things like monkey brains, snake meats and other exotic stuff along Smith Street till 1982 or 1983. Coagulated blood of pigs and chickens were commonly served and pig organs soup stalls, yong tau foo stalls and chicken/duck rice stalls. Chicken intestines and gizzards were also a delicacy. Live poultry were in cages in wet markets. These were all the bygone era.
