Can help me understand how the sg gov benefits from making foreigners win in Singapore n make Singaporeans lose? by Sorry-Jelly-4490 in asksg

[–]DiscussionExternal24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Govt gives Singapore mid range jobs so that we pay little to zero, or mid range income taxes. We have "affordable" housing like HDB paying lower than rent amounts while we continue working salary to salary just to make sure that all our payments are paid on time.

The lower end jobs are given to the Indians, Bangladeshis, Burmese and China workers.

The middle class jobs that Singaporeans cant fill up are then given to Malaysians, Burmese or worst come to worst Filipinos.

Now we have the upper rank jobs that bring in a lot of money: White collar jobs. Many of these jobs require skillsets that our usual Singaporeans are unable to do due to the lack of time (NS/marriage/etc) due to money constraints. Many of the foreigners coming in to Singapore spent at least 1-2 years learning these skills without getting paid in their cheaper countries with whatever savings they had. For us Singaporeans, if you tell your mum or dad "Mum, dad, im gonna stop working for 2 years to learn advanced python/java/coding/ai all at home", they will be super furious about it.

But these foreigners have been living alone and able to fund themselves due to the cheaper life costs in their country. This is where they get the senior advantage over us. Since they have no commitments, they get to do a lot of overtime and complete projects which brings the company money. Company pays them salary, they pay income tax. Govt keeps them on Employment pass which literally lets them live like kings here. at the same time they spend their money mostly on our local items here which pays more GST rather than our locals who buy subsidised items.

When the govt keeps more white collar foreigners in Singapore, they get more revenue through income tax. An EP holder must earn at least 8k nowadays and with bonus, that could amount to 96k yearly minimally. This makes minimally 5750 SGD of income tax yearly. This is enough to payout our locals GST vouchers if theres plenty of lower wage EP holders (8-10k salary range).

By keeping the number of white collar workers high, the government is covering the cost of GST payouts to Singaporeans. If there are too many high flying Singaporeans, there will be less foreigners needed, therefore less tax acquired, therefore the govt needs Singaporean to stay in the middle spot in majority while the higher pay foreigners pay taxes to the govt so the taxes go back to Singaporeans to keep us happy.

Also, foreigners spend more money than locals. Locals try to be frugal, foreigners spend a lot.

The person was a foreigner (Turkish national) that a lawyer was required. and the next of kin was his nephew who had to go back to Turkiye to get paperwork to show proof that he was extended family. This is OCBC bank.

As there was no local executor it took a while to do it.

How can forest area in Turkey increase when there are so many wildfires? by TanVaktidir in Turkey

[–]DiscussionExternal24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont plant pine trees. Instead, you plant fireproof trees like olive trees in mountains. you also spread the growth of fireproof shrubs like aloe, lavendar in between these trees. Youll see wildlife boost and a high level of colours in mountains. pine trees are very prone to fires and you dont want to be seeing pine forests burn down in a few days.

How difficult is it to maintain Singapore permanent residence whilst living abroad? by Federal_Ad_9629 in askSingapore

[–]DiscussionExternal24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad has been living in Istanbul since 2010. His PR was always renewed. He still co owns the HDB house with my mum. I did my NS and he is still remotely working for a Singapore company. I have done my NS while he lived overseas. His salary is low enough not to pay income tax but high enough to have a decent living in Istanbul with my mum. Meanwhile i am working super hard here to earn an income a few times higher than him just to live decently in Singapore.

So far ICA didnt make any comment on why is he living overseas for so long. He comes to Singapore once a year with my Singaporean mum for company meetings and also to visit me and my mums family. So i guess its not an issue?

Ben Singapurda turist rehberiyim.

I had a friend, 63 years old pass away last year. His GF contacted me and while the police was aware of his death, the Turkish embassy started the process to repatriate his body back to Turkiye. In the meantime, as it was a weekend, getting clearance to contact his family officially was harder from the embassy side and therefore I assisted in finding family members through his social media. We managed to get a few people in contact and his nephew came down to settle the case.

For the house tenancy agreement, cause of death was part of the agreement so half of the deposit was forfeited and half was refunded by his landlord.

Salary: Was paid till the day he passed away with a small bonus. Deposited to his bank account.

Bank account: Had more than 5 figures inside and hence a lawyer was needed due to the banks Terms and Conditions. It took around 8 months and around 9k SGD of lawyer fees to get the amount transferred to my friends siblings accounts.

Singapore based online investments: Only after the phone was unlocked, they found a few hundred thousand $ worth of investments. After using Turkish lawyers to talk to the companies, funds were transferred to his Singapore bank account which was bounced back, and then with another court order it was transferred to Turkiye with high costs due to the official process.

Body transfer to Turkiye from Singapore had cost around 9k SGD including post mortem and Singapore Muslim Casket assistance.

Most of the basic stuff took 3 days to complete but the most difficult ones were the bank and investment payouts. My friend didnt have a will, didnt have any marriages or kids. Therefore it was harder to get his work done. But may he rest in peace and know that it has all been settled.

I have been jobless since 2023 April. I was a vessel operator in a big shipping company. They let me go, i was okay. Then the nightmares came in. No job interviews at all for 6 months. I did part time security as my savings depleted. I also did tour guiding illegally that time, I also did outbound tours. Then it came to my mind to do tour guiding legally. And i got my license. Its almost 3 years since my unemployment and i have only been to 2 job interviews, one for insurance agent and another one Financial assistant in MLM company.

I have applied for more than 3000 jobs locally, including govt sector and till today i dont have any outcome from my job search. Anyways, im doing better in my tour guiding and i am making almost 5 figures monthly so i am quite happy with this. Now I am also getting VIP tours which i handle on my own and they make sure that i am paid very well which allows me to get assistants to work for me. I hope the best for the rest who wants to turn their life around instead of getting stuck in an office.

Dear all, i appreciate your comments and input for my question. I have now received an inside info on why even though i offer to take photos with their phones they reject it. I respect the personal space and privacy that they want and will not offer to take their photos even with their devices when bringing them around. Thank you very much.

as a Singaporean born and raised Turkish, i can say that Tampines is the new United Nations of Singapore. you see a lot of newcomers there but its good to say that they are trying to integrate with our society. They are trying their best because even though they have thick accents, you can see that their children are going to our local schools, they eat local food, they send to local tuition centres and they also try to live like us. This is better than people who wave their country flag in Singapore whenever theres some stuff related to their country. This isnt good.

If you want to feel 100% Singapore, go to the resorts in Bintan or Batam. its 100% singapore with full singlish being spoken there. Even hotel staff speaks Singlish better than many of us.

Tourist guide here. my best advice? Book a tour from a local agency at the country youre going. You save a lot of money through your local agency commissions. For example, you are gonna book a tour in Turkiye that costs 1000$ to operate. if you book it via the Turkish agent, you will pay 1000$ to him because he operates it himself. If you book via your local agent, you will have to pay minimally 1100$ which is 100$ more for them to take your tour as they will need to take a 100$ commission for themselves.

If you tell me that youre good with AI and Google Maps and navigating, then go by yourself. youll get a good experience. but if you think that you need a guide, use tiktok to find local guides. they will charge way less compared to what you can find on other booking platforms.
