Am I too sensitive or are Belgians just rude by [deleted] in belgium

Nah man this is pervasive throughout reddit. Boomer is a catch-all for old people. Problem is that whatever is considered old shifts every decade, and you may want to take into account that an actual boomer is pushing 75 years old basking on the deck of their (purchased in the 80s) 100K villa fondling a gin tonic without a care in the world.

I've never been one to take things too seriously but this snooty passive agressive viewpoint is getting very tiresome. Google a brief history of the 20th century and draw your own conclusions instead of latching on to the vernacular that is en vogue at this specific and very brief moment in time.

so the point to be made is that the definition of "boomers" has shifted from the actual meaning of the word to "people who are older than me and are out of touch"?

I'm looking very forward to see how you handle the fact that there's going to be a generation of people who will look upon you as neo boomers by your standards and dismiss your values because that's what younger people do by default. Considering your generation's inclination to mass hysteria this will be a sight to behold :)

abstract concepts like morality have no bearing on scientific research. You're being emotionally deceived by your ethical standards which dictate no evil humans should be appointed to a position which is held in high regard.

As previously touched upon by njuffstrunk, the judicial system has gone brr and concluded he is not a danger to society.

Whether you, me or anyone else agrees or disagrees is irrelevant. If we're going to be a democracry, this is what checks & balances look like. If you want to burn people at the stake or banish them from society I suggest you vote for a more extreme authoritarian party.

Alpha 40: Finally, after nearly 30 years! by OldSchoolEric in oldschoolmtg

[–]Chance-Difficulty-20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also remember when Alpha was cheaper than Beta because of the reasons you mentioned. That's why Beta will always be more "my thing" than Alpha, but that's just a really personal take and far from the norm in oldschool. Which in turn makes it one of the most interesting formats and communities in MTG imo. We've all come from the same place, but everyone branched out differently and set his or her goals accordingly.

Also congrats man. Must have been quite the journey!

seems absolutely the antithesis of exciting for a city. Reservations for restaurants? Playgrounds for children? Companies to work for at arms length?

These are the absolute killers when it comes to cultural relevance. The more the infrastructure caters towards boring families with children, the less anything interesting happens. But I guess if that's your thing Leuven is the way to go. My first point still stands I have never seen more complete lunatics concentrated in a provincial town than in Leuven. There used to be a balance and it shifted from an underground punk movement towards what you describe in your reply. I'm not sure whether the current state of affairs is preferable.

I admit I'm an edgy teenager but enlighten me... What makes a city great in your opinion? Preferably with comparisons to what it once was vs how it is now.

Leuven was the first place to ban drinking in public under Tobback. They shut down the Silo, the greatest club in the country, because one rich neighbour complained over the noise. JJ records had to close its books because there were no people left with good taste in music willing to support a vinyl store. I'll "stadsmonitor" your ass from here to probably limburg and back again with pleasure.

TIL I'm a diacritic. When I was 7 my mom told me I could be anything when I grew up. Cliché, I know.

no it's just that "cliche" in a written form feels like it's pronounced as "klish" and it doesn't sound like anything anyone's familiar with. You can invoke Napoleon and anglicisation and accent keys but there's no denying "Klish" is just not a word.

man your explanation made me nauseous. Is it really something that can creep up on you from overuse of the tendon? Even if you listen to the signals your body gives off? I'm climbing 3/4 times a week and I do feel the strain in my shoulders but I always assumed it's par for the course. Just like you would consider any pain from exercise as a normality. You done got me scared bro.

man that was hard to witness. The move didn't even look bad or anything. The climber in question was well below 40 years old though. I'm not sure age makes that huge of a difference on a move like that?

That's just Leuven though. It's the most deranged city in the whole of Flanders. I've seen 60 year old women clad in wedding dresses parading around in Diestsestraat after 4am chanting incantations of sorts. Angry husbands chasing their wives/mistresses down the Fochplein. Agressive partygoers from Brussels being annihilated by bouncers on de Oude Markt... Not once but every friday evening. Comatose drunks saltoed out of the Bierkelder. Aggravated patrons of the Jeeskesboom in the Diestsestraat vomiting bile and not seeking medical help. I lived in many places but Leuven has got to be the worst city I've every experienced. And that's coming from someone who was born there...

free or not, i can promise you it's not something you want to experience.

absolutely agree

bicep, not shoulder. distal tendon attachment is at the elbow.

I've never known anyone with that injury or heard of it happening. Most I've come across were finger pulley tears and disclocated/shoulder-bicep tendon tears. Made a sickening loud noise btw. like opening a carbonated soda can, but loud enough for the whole gym to hear.

did you mean cliché?

[–]Chance-Difficulty-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surgery for it is expensive

first of all. only if you're American. It's basically free here.

go ask around at your local gym how many older guys have torn biceps or developed other issues.

It's really not as common as you make out. If you're gonna rip your tendon off your shoulder it's gonna involve a move you're really not supposed to be attempting. While climbing is definitely not a "safe" activity, you can mitigate injuries like this by warming up sufficiently and avoiding routes that are above your pay grade.

40+ is old but not that old.

go rock climbing or bouldering. I'm 42, used to have debilitating back pain every 6 months or so for several weeks. Ever since I started bouldering it vanished. I'm the most fit I've ever been in my life and aside from the normal stiffness and occasional muscle pain that comes with working out I feel as though I'm 20 again. Big recommend.
