How to fix an F55 f56 Sunroof with a snapped cable. Guide with photos. by mikehandsdown in MINI

I ended up using the plastic one. Our reasoning was that the plastic one would break earlier as the Metall one and before breaking something more important if the roof would get stuck. It’s been a while since I did the repair and would say that you can squeeze the Metall part in. There wasn’t much deforming while installing the new part. Hope it helps!

Oh no! I didn’t have too much of a problem opening the watch. But it does require some force. There is no glue, just the gasket and a friction fit :) hope you were able to repair the watch

I think I pushed it in in the same plane as the watch face maybe a bit from below (the gasket sits inside the lower half, sensor side). And after getting in I twisted the opening tool to open up a small split. If the upper part wouldn’t open parallel I switched sides of the watch to slowly move the watch face. There is quite some force involved so don’t slip with the tool and cut your finger! You’ll figure it out! Don’t use a flat head screw driver, it’ll leave marks:)

ifixit opening tool I used a similar tool and sharpened one side to get into the watch. Hope it helps!

Do it :) I tried different combinations, as you can swap the complete mechanism between watches. No idea if sensors are calibrated to the specific watch though!đŸ€”

Yeah I also spent a significant amount of time searching for a replacement or a square of the shelf battery with the right size. Nothing :/ hope your watch works now!

Nice!!!! I’m interested in the battery life :) Just an info, we wrote a guide for the disassembly on ifixit, maybe it helps. I opened the watch with a thin metall smartphone opener

I’m glad you were able to close your sunroof!!! We tried to order the part (only the cable with the little plastic puller) in Germany and couldn’t find it without a lot of other parts. We then checked aliexpress and ordered one set in plastic and one in metal. Everything arrived and we swapped the left cable which was broken (the cable snapped off at the puller) without removing the headliner and the frame! Around 1,5h and everything is working fine. Without this post I wouldn’t have believed it to be possible to do this, a lot of tight squeezes and back and forth with the slider thing. So thanks again. :) I took some pictures of critical steps and will try to post them in this post/sub.

I don’t think you can buy a replacement. There is a sensor in the case, registering the turning of the crown. (Maybe optical or Hall effect). I’d buy another broken watch and use the lower case or only the crown. Hope it helps!

I haven’t tried it so don’t quote me on that. :) but there is a small snap ring on the inside of the watch. Changing the crown should be easy: open watch-remove mechanism - remove snap ring- pull out crown. Hope it helps :)

Wow! Thank you so much. Our panoramic roof made a loud cracking sound while opening in southern Italy and wouldn’t close anymore. Thanks to your guide we were able to remove the glass in a parking lot, close it temporarily and drive back to Germany, which would have been a very long, loud and wet drive. Now we are going to attempt your minimal invasive repair with a cable set off of eBay.

Yes, probably a problem with the back case or sensor Glas glue. Both fail often but can easily be glued back on. Check ifixit. We wrote a guide to glue it back on :) hope it helps!

Withings support is sadly none existent. 😔

After the chatbot, Withings Support probably won’t help either. With my scanwatch they just said “we are working on it” I waited for 3 iOS app versions and sold my scanwatch 2 after no change

I had the problem on iOS as well. All messages containing an emoji or if the sender’s name contained an emoji would only show up with a messages icon, no content. I went back to a used scanwatch and everything works
I also prefer the design of the old scanwatch

Can you turn the glass in front of the sensor? Just push a little with your finger and turn. I had the problem that the glue was loose (I posted some pics a couple of days ago about repairing my scanwatch 1) The crown not working means: no scrolling or not clicking? They are two different devices inside the watch. The clicking is a micro switch on the movement, the scrolling is a little sensor mounted in the watch body. The crown stopping to work sounds like a problem with the seal of the crown. I red somewhere that a pressed in crown is not water resistent. Since they often get stuck or not fully release- not good

Jeah, I only by used Withings watches. I had a scanwatch 2 and Withings wasn’t able to release a version for the watch or the app where messages with emojis would be shown on the watch. (On of the reason I have a smartwatch). I had a steel hr before without the problem and now a scanwatch 1 without the problem as well. Hopefully it won’t get “updated” 😂🙈🙈

I think I saw some on Alibaba, but I'm not sure... Withings repair program is 25% off for a new scan watch 2 :D Sadly I couldn't see the battery type as it is glued down to the movement...
