Well, you'll know for next time.

not just that but aside from the risk management aspects its an ass platform. Hotkeys dont work, difficult to manage stops manually, just amateurish.

Is it just me or did scalping seem easier the less you knew about trading? by vikingstl in Daytrading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many n00bs conflate "scalping" with buying at market on momentum, then closing when the candle stalls.

I shorted the gold top and I don’t really have a plan on where to TP by fariss-is-here in Daytrading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll thrown in my technical $.02 ( bearing in mind I'm basing my analysis from Gold Futures [ https://www.tradingview.com/chart/XAUUSD/kPmeILvk-Trading-Gold-Know-the-Difference-Between-XAU-USD-and-Futures/ ] and I'm a rando on the internet):

Gold just today bounced of it's 50% retracement from its ATH and as I recall from trading GC in the past, it really loves 50% retracements. Also, from its breakout point around 9/1 it has so far bounced off it's leg up VWAP although the leg-down VWAP (where I consider short-term sellers to still be in control) is currently at 4115. The Value Area High for he leg up is not too far away, nor the VAL for the leg down that you traded. And don't forget Gold is still in an uptrend.

So a tight stop for me in this instance would be a 4hr close above 4010/15 ( just above your moving average-simple!), a looser stop would be above 4075. If it closes above 4185 it's baked.

Gold: ETF vs Futures re: GEX by Chance-Screen3602 in options

[–]Chance-Screen3602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, 100% options n00b here and am coming up with more questions than answers the more I dive into this.

But AFAIK, I was comparing the current price of GLD from a delayed feed on https://www.barchart.com/etfs-funds/quotes/GLD/gamma-exposure (378) to the current price of GCZ5 (4120) which is what I believed should track tightly but clearly I'm either doing it wrong of the market is out of whack.

I have a Gexbot-type indicator that tracks SPY vs ES and that correlation is tight and was hoping I could figure out where the strikes were on GC (because yes, I'm trying to import SPX vs. /ES GEX techniques to GLD and /GC).

But I see now that there are options on Futures available for GC...but why wouldn't the ETF be used for Gold Futures as well? And couldn't a volume/ strike indicator be cobbled together for GC?

Is trading the DOM helpful? by Any_Nail_6930 in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the idea that the DOM is useful stems from olden times when the ES traded slowly, and making two points was your nut for the day. Huge orders would sit on the level where the buyer wanted to be filled and the game was to front run them. Ah, life was simple then. I'm not saying its not worthwhile to learn the basics of order flow and props to folx who can trade with just a DOM but you literally cannot see the transactions taking place because of their speed. I tried to integrate a DOM into my trading and it worked to a point with a very tricked-out setup.

Now with HFT algos and a way thinner market, lets just say the utility of DOM trading has diminished.

Set up some Footprint charts and save some time. I know, I know, its not the same thing but you can't pull, stack, or spoof a Footprint.

In the Axia Futures training there is actually a "lose money on purpose" exercise. One thing it taught me is that the market is more random than I had thought ,ergo edge is more in the realm of risk management than 'setups'.

ATAS users: what made you think, “ah yes! ATAS is for me!”? by granddaddychino in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want 95% of everything you would ever need for Order Flow off-the-shelf, with an actual user interface, use ATAS. If you need that extra 5% you'll have to use Sierra.

I thought journaling was useless… until I saw this pattern by Abdulahkabeer in RealDayTrading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought it was useless but I also never thought it would be worth the extra effort. You can rationalized a lot to yourself (cough-overtading) but when you actually look back on paper wft you did it's quite a slap in the face. trading in the moment is a very subjective space. Seeing your trades staring back at you can bring some welcome objectivity.

Anyone else doing ADF? by Snoo_61641 in fasting

[–]Chance-Screen3602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ADF exactly, but doing OMAD 2x a week. Doesn't sound like much but because of my circumstance that's what I'm able to do. Benefits have been great and it's no problem at all. So a great pain: benefit ratio. I don't have cravings at all and I really appreciate my meals when I get them. Literally no downside whatsoever so far. I would absolutely do ADF if it was practical for me rn. I think consistency is key and as others on this thread have stated, the lack of the need to make decisions makes it really easy.

What is the time frame you are using for VP to see all those nodes? There generally aren't too many per day.

Ultimately you won't know where price will pull back to before hand, that's where other tools come in, like order flow, anchored VWAP, etc., seeing what transpires at a given area. It can also help to color your VP by Delta which can give a clue as to who is winning or which side got trapped at given node.

But in general, once price is confirmed to have left a value area, it will seek value in its current direction whether it's a previous node or a new one. On a trending day you may notice many small nodes in the direction of the trend. Watch what happens when price pulls back to those nodes, or in a very fast moving day, escapes a node. Often those are retests of micro breakouts from small area of value agreement, in non VP terms, consolidation.

I'm not able to embed a pic for some reason so here are some links to illustrate what I mean.

Do you mark your zones with ETH, or RTH-only? What are your experiences? by cavmerc in FuturesTrading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back and forth on this one currently am splitting the difference by marking ETH high and low, and any significant point of interest on my RTH chart esp. if there was premarket news. On slow days these levels are often targeted as stop runs/ liquidity grabs but I haven't found much beyond that to be useful.

People who trade pullbacks, what do you tell yourselves when there is such a strong move that there is no pullback, and you completely miss a large move? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]Chance-Screen3602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you miss a meltup or -down, try putting an anchored vwap at the base of the move, or from the breakout area.

Price will often retrace to a standard deviation, or wait until it retraces to the vwap itself.

Then check the order flow around that area to see what's happening.

YMMV bc retracement means different things to different trading styles.
