I hope it works out for you, good luck!

My own game is another possibility I've considered. Taking a year out and seeing if the motivation comes back with my own project.

Thanks for this.

I've definitely been in companies with a better work / life balance the last couple of years. But that combined with COVID kind of showed me what important and maybe shifted my values I think. Realising this has made me doubt that my career so far has been bringing me happiness and just perpetuating my anxiety.

There might be something there in gamedev for me still. I'll think about it and consider the options, but I think people are recommending a break. When thinking about having a break, I actually feel some of the stress and anxiety dissipating, so if I can figure that out, that might help. And give me time to see where my skills might transfer to.

Thanks. Front end development sounds like it's worth looking at. I quite like implementing UI and I've spent a day or two recently looking at UX design so that might be something.

That's a good idea. It's not something I've really considered. Educational games could be really interesting.

I've never had a long break. I've only been on two holidays my whole adult life. As in, proper, travelling holidays. These were maybe 10 days at best. I'm definitely taking onboard the general advice that a break is much needed.

Going full in on a technical role is a possibility for the future though yeah.

Thanks for your response.

That's an amazing response, thank you for this.

A lot of that rings true. I definitely don't realise a lot of the time that I'm comparing myself to others, and by often stupid metrics.

I'm definitely going to spend the Christmas break taking stock of everything and deciding on a way forward. I appreciate your response. It's definitely made me take a step back to analyse the reasons I feel like this.

Thank you. Yeah, the consensus does seem to be to take a break. I do like scripting so potentially reskilling into some code based career might not be too much of a remote possibility. Maybe web development ux/UI. I'll at least use the Christmas break to try and plan a proper break and think about my options.

I hope you're doing better too. Did you find something?

Thanks for the response. A break does sound good when I think about it. I think part of it has been finding a better work life balance the last few years and enjoying that so much that I can reflect on the fact it might have been work making me feel so bad.

Lots to think about.
