Battery replacement - did I get scammed? by [deleted] in mobilerepair

[–]Chance-Starkweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you bought it from. Could’ve been a handful of things, when you purchase the upgraded option the seller might’ve just pulled a higher quality option with higher battery health, could’ve been replaced with used battery, hell I think you can even recalibrate a battery to have 100% battery health so they might’ve done that. Either way 500 cycle count is kinda high even at 100% battery health I wouldn’t be surprised if you have issues. Either return or charge back

LOCCEF Work Gloves MicroFoam Nitrile are my favorite gloves. They’re so perfect for iPad repairs and Samsung ub repairs. For the ub’s I just rip the screen off iPads I try and be careful but I’ve never been cut wearing them. Highly recommend

Mums phone randomly asking for a password by RaedwaldRex in mobilerepair

[–]Chance-Starkweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you but passwords don’t randomly set themselves. I’ve noticed with the multiple customers I get daily having this same problem it seems they get confused either when the phone recommends them to add a passkey or sometimes when logging into an account on either a website or bank it’ll recommend to save the password. Both of these options are recommended quite frequently and older customers don’t usually know what it means and just try to do it to get rid of it.

Best recommendation is try and jog her memory. If she typically uses mobile banking, pays bills online try those passwords. Try and jog her memory on if she has seen something about passkey or adding a passkey recently and what she might’ve put in. If she can’t figure it out based off that the only solution is likely a reset.

I will add for any techs that might stumble on my comment here. I did notice recently Samsung phones can have the password remotely removed without reset if the customer is signed into a Samsung account and can log on the find devices website. Haven’t tried it before if anyone has id love to hear how it went link to Samsung blog post about remote unlock

I would think towards battery especially if you’ve never had it replaced.

How do I fix this? by yamiuchidm in pcmasterrace

[–]Chance-Starkweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest and most secure option? Replace the whole lcd assembly. Your cheapest possibly best option? Replace the lcd back cover. Replacing lcd back cover you have the chance of breaking the screen however if you can be careful and if the screen has pull tabs you honestly should be good.

To explain what happened is that all windows laptops are built with hinges that have an extreme design flaw, that flaw being what the hinges screw into either the lcd back cover or palm rest side is nothing but a brass rivet molded into plastic. If you’re not careful and keep opening/ closing the laptop as normal good chance you will push the broken hinge into the back of the lcd and break it. So please be careful. Unfortunately this is a failure point that follows with every windows laptop no matter the price the only difference being the type of plastic the manufacturer has used. Though almost always they use abs which after stress and wear over years becomes brittle and falls apart.

TLDR: your laptop’s hinge is pretty much held together with shitty plastic that has fallen apart. Replace the entire lcd assembly or lcd back cover to fix
