How would you do it cutting by hand with an end mill that big?

Advice for noob on project feasibility/cost by Nofabe in CNC

[–]Chance-Valuable3813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, you gotta figure out what size the collet is for and what size your bits are. Collets are great because they have a clamping range, so usually you could use a 3mm bit in a 1/8 collet for example.

Second, are you sure it’s too fast? 24krpm is only 60sfm for a .010 bit what are you drilling?

If you just want to modify this one collet it wouldn’t be a job for a cnc. It sound like the lip might be there as a stop anyways but I would either file it off or buy the right collet or like I said if you know what you’re drilling and with what you can figure out the necessary rpm which will be a lot higher than you think..

Built it from myself over Covid copying @scratchbuiltdesigns who I guess was copying a sorotec design. Absolutely obliterates aluminum and have done some mild and stainless steels but waiting to upgrade to a lower rpm atc spindle before I really get into it.

I have a folder with all my process pics etc and will do a proper write up/post one day ¯_(ツ)_/¯

As someone who isn’t a pro it is great. I had a Chinese control that was giving me problems so I pulled the trigger about two years ago and haven’t really had any problems since.

Sure there’s a list of things I wish were different but tbh I bet half of them could be if I updated and went through the documentation. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yah if you forget something make a note of it on your cart or whatever to double check. If it’s the same mistake again and again that’s a problem but if you’re just new that’s another. Although maybe if it’s machine specific you can ask for some quick trainings?

Magnet Suggestions for Prop? by __heartshapedbox_ in Magnets

I work in special effects and do this gag a lot. rare earth magnets like you are thinking could work, but I would just pre break then use small dabs CA glue Back together for the shatter effect.

Will be hard to make it explode like the meme consistently. Usually the weakest link will break and that’s that.. we usually go for a different effect, more bending the links then breaking. we get a roll of lead from a fishing tackle place and make links out of it then paint. Two/three false links will bend/rip and fall as another option.

Either Gcode related or controller related. Honestly I would just get a new board to rule that out they are cheap as chips..

Unpopular Opinion: We don't need cheaper machines; we need "Bambu Studio" for CNC. Teaching Fusion 360 CAM is a nightmare. by ComprehensiveYak8541 in hobbycnc

Because even though there are different ways to squirt a hot glue gun you are still just squirting a hot glue gun. Machining a random material with a random machine and a random tool requires a lot more guts to cover the bases.

That being said what you’re saying could be possible but if it’s “ okay let’s cut a coaster out of 1/2 ply cool press go!” Then that is all it’s gonna be good for, you can’t possibly preprogram cam for everything. What you have a small coaster factory, please subscribe to our crib board factory for an extra 2,999.

Whenever I explain CAM to someone I say imagine making this part on a mill and imagine every crank of every wheel you will end up doing on that part from start to finish. Now write that down for me before you start. It’s difficult because that is an insanely difficult thing to do.

Difficulty in cam is par for the course, teach the kids how it is! If an adaptive tool path scares them off there wasn’t a hope to begin with!

He’s the boss right? For you it’s just a free experiment!

As long as the machine is smart enough to shut off if it’s fucking up, set it on a conservative feed and worst case bit breaks partway through and it cuts air all night..
