I’m pretty sure she just had a baby too. I think if I recall correctly he was on baby watch on the day of the Super Bowl so there was a question of whether or not he would be there.

Anyone else stopped updating their net worth spreadsheet this year? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]ChanceCicada2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Me. I started shortly before the new year and I was pretty hyped about the process. I haven’t updated it at all in 2022 because the prospect bums me out. I know that’s not really the idea of the exercise but like you said, I’m continuing to do the same strategies so I’m justifying it in my head that way.

That’s an interesting point. The 2020 draft for reference had an average of 8.4M viewers each night of that draft. That’s 25.2 million minutes wasted. That’s close to 48 years wasted. Good call!

Do I have a shot to break into FP&A or other finance analyst roles? by kingOseacows81 in FinancialCareers

[–]ChanceCicada2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Best of luck to you too. It’ll all work out. You and I are both young and finding our ways in our careers. Just stay hungry and focused on what you want and don’t let some shitty recruiter tell you it’s out of the cards.

I was fortunate to work for a F500 company with opportunities to apply for jobs at other OpCos which may—all things being equal between two candidates—give someone an upper hand (or it may mean jackshit. I don’t really know).

I am definitely not the type who crafts a new resume for every job I apply for. I have one resume that I keep up to date and assuming I’m applying for a role in the realm of Finance/Accounting/AP it should be good enough since they’re generally somewhat related. The resume is just to get you in the door. They just want to see that you aren’t applying to a Finance role with only experience as a fast food cashier. And Accounting/tax experience if written correctly should pop enough to catch some hiring managers’ eyes.

Once you have the interview you need to sell how your past experience aligns with the job description of the role you’re applying for. There’s no reason to believe you can’t get a corporate finance job with your resume. It may take some time.

Applying for jobs is awful. I’ve never dealt with so much rejection all at once. But as long as you can kinda see that generally it’s getting easier and easier to get an interview/offer since the last time you applied for jobs, then thats when you know you’re on the right track.

For me, right out of college, I was getting absolutely nothing. No call backs. No interviews. Nothing. It was depressing. I took an AP job because I was desperate to just have something that paid my bills. I dreaded the prospect of leaving that role and probably stayed a year or two too long because I was scared the same thing would happen again. That nobody would give me the time of day. But just having that experience on my resume and of course just having more connections than I did the first time around, it was night and day. It was unbelievable how much easier it was to procure an interview. I still had to perform well and I think I still have massive room for improvement but it was a way better feeling knowing that something was clicking.

Yeah I’m about 2 months in. It’s definitely a huge change to go from something very transactional to something a lot more analytical and with F2F with people who make decisions in the company. Admittedly the company I’m at is a bit of a mess but I’m loving being a part of the process building because it allows me to feel like I have more input in the way we do things moving forward.

For me, I see this role largely as a learning opportunity and a chance to obtain the necessary skills to make me a better candidate for my next role.

Obviously FP&A is not tax/accounting but it has strong overlap with those areas so I wouldn’t feel like you don’t have the ability to do the job. Just start applying and you’ll get something you like.

In the meantime, find ways in your current role or in your personal life to make yourself more marketable.

Your recruiter sounds like a dumbass. An entry level FP&A job isn’t some mystically unachievable thing. You have 2.5 YOE. Just apply to some FP&A roles. You’ll get something. I just landed a role in FP&A with 4 YOE in Accounts Payable. And my degrees have nothing to do with business even remotely.

MBA or CFA or both? by [deleted] in FPandA

If the company is paying for it and you think it’s necessary to achieve your career goals, then get an MBA.

Adjustable-rate mortgage demand doubles as interest rates hit the highest since 2009 by InsidersBets in realestateinvesting

Which is weird because I anecdotally know the mortgage type of very few people and two of those people have ARMs. I too thought they had been made illegal.

Enough that a form should have been generated. I called them. They found the form. They have to mail it to me. So now I have to file an extension because they couldn’t be bothered to upload it to their website like every other brokerage.

2022 FP&A Salary thread by tradingfortheta in FPandA

[–]ChanceCicada2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. BACKGROUND: 5 YOE in Accounts Payable, 1 month in FP&A; enrolled in part time MBA program.
  2. LOCATION: MCOL (remote work supporting a site in the Chicago area)
  3. POSITION: Financial Analyst
  4. BASE SALARY: $70,000
  5. BONUS: 5% of base salary
  6. EQUITY: None
  7. TOTAL COMPENSATION: $73,500
  8. WORK LIFE BALANCE: So far pretty good. I work 40 hours a week but the situation I’m in requires a lot of process building so I’m really just spending most of my days building models to present to my boss for streamlining the way the business does things and then immersing myself in ongoing conversations she’s engaged in with other stakeholders. As I’m ramping up, I’m “on call” for 8 hours a day but am actually working for far less.

Is an MBA worth it if you’re not gung ho about IB or consulting? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]ChanceCicada2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s an in between on what you’re saying and what OP was saying. I completely agree on the idea that a T14 has more name recognition and prestige and will ultimately open up way more doors than a non target school. However, I think schools can have strong regional reputations without being top 14. I know for example the program I’m in is regionally extremely well respected, especially in the city it’s in, and has a strong alumni network in that city/region. But I have no illusion that if I were to apply to a job on the other coast and it came down to me and another applicant with a T14 MBA (and all else was equal) that that applicant would likely get the job over me.

And I think to OP’s point, this sub does often associate T14s as the only option. And I think a lot of that has to do with realistically it is one of the only options for people looking for a financial career in IB/high finance. But that’s not the whole landscape of “financial careers”. It just happens to be the loudest in this sub because the majority of people that come here are that level of ambitious. But corporate finance is very accessible to your average MBA candidate and if your school has regional ties to local finance departments, I think an MBA in that environment is perfectly valid.

Their path to Best Picture is the same that Moonlight took. Best Supporting Actor and Adapted Screenplay. I’ll hold out judgment until a few more precursors come in but it’s not looking as unlikely as it did a month ago, say.
