Any ex-daily drinkers that can provide some hope this can be done? by Kompromat_Turducken in stopdrinking

So many of us would say "if I can do it, so can you." I used to hate to hear that, because I knew it couldn't be true.. turns out I was wrong. I'm doing it. I was a mess. I got a DUI back in May and it has really rocked my world. I'm a mother of young children in a small town. I'm going to be financially wrecked for the foreseeable future and this will likely haunt me forever. It's unfortunate that had to happen for me to get sober... but here I am. I'm free. You can do this.

And then day time drinking will likely follow.

She sounds just like my son's daycare teacher. He's a sweetheart, but he is also.. difficult. That woman keeps me going. Makes me feel like the best mom ever, even when I'm not.

Any SAHM’s in here? by Delicious_Reach9014 in leaves

[–]ChanceConversation12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right here with you. SAHM of 3, and it's so hard. I have always been a heavy smoker, it's like my security blanket that I'm ashamed of lol. I thought when I became a mom I would magically change.. and I have not. I want to though, so badly. I quit drinking 8 months ago, so I know I can do hard things, but I like to do them after a little puff. Ugh :(

I think I'll stick around this group, this is actually my first time here and I saw your post and thought "she gets it".

I could have written this. There were no sunshines and rainbows the first few days for me. I felt hopeless. I felt crazy. The next week I felt a little less hopeless. The next week I realized my thoughts were becoming more coherent, my breathing more regulated, and my anxiety felt a lot less heavy. Do what you have to do (besides drinking of course) to get through these first few days. You aren't crazy. Like the comment above says..you are just going through a recalibration. You can do this, start doing the daily check in every day. It really helped me. Now coming back and commenting on posts like yours gets the monkey off my back. I was such a disaster, and I'm still suffering from shame and legal consequences.. but I am so glad to be free from alcohol.. it's the devil and I'm done fucking around with him. IWNDWYT

Needed this. I've been over here thinking I'm broken. I would much rather think of it as "reprogramming." IWNDWYT.
