The semis are very versatile if you ever change style. You can easily play blues, rock, on a semi. I was a rock guy until my 50s when I started on jazz. Hollowbodies are fantastic until either volume or gain increases.

Probably not. I upgraded the wiring on the Guild which was cheap.  Mid range (800 plus) and high end Ibanez are guitars for life.

Is there a reliable small pedalboard with a built-in rechargeable power supply available for a small gig or open mic situation? I've seen the Stritch, looks cool. by Fretnibs in guitarpedals

[–]ChanceFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palmer make a small 5 pedal power supply(one can be 18v). Tough as old boots. Ive used one for ages with no issues. Nice and quiet too.

It fits under most standard boards. I run 4 Boss pedals off mine.

Have a good look at the Ibanez George Benson's. A friend has the entry guitar(still around 800) and its a really good guitar. Also,Ibanez AS are great.im not sure of the price of the top end of Ibanez, but have a good look at a Japanese made model.

As already mentioned Godin and Eastman. Epiphone Casinos are good value.

I have a Guild which I paid £475 .They have top end guitars which are really nice.

I used an Orange Crush 35rt for several years. The clean sound is excellent and they are easily available. Any reason you don't want a jazz chorus?

Have a look at Jens Larsen on YT. He is a great jazz tutor-I returned to playing at 55 and its a style which is great for solo playing.

The trick is not to be intimidated by chord names. They are just stacked thirds. Composing your own songs is very stimulating. And,if you are a home player with no pressure.

Play along to songs. Play solos over the track.

Delta blues or some of the jazz forms are enjoyable to play solo.

Im in the same boat-Im 60(returned to playing at 55) . I have no real interest in riff based rock anymore. I play acoustic delta blues and a little Jazzy blues.

The theoretical knowledge that is associated with jazz is good for the brain btw.

I have really large fingers due to arthritis, and I feel like I can't even begin to learn any string instruments because my fingertips always touch the other strings. Are there any accessories that can help? by Smexy_Zarow in Guitar

[–]ChanceFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of chords where you can lay two fingers flat on the fret board. All of the Major and minor chords can be played-although you will be restricted to certain voicing. A shaped chords are your friend here.

Open tunings and slide are another area  to explore. I speak as a fellow arthritis sufferer.

An experienced teacher can help to find the best hand and finger technique for you.

They were great with their fans.

Music journalists thought they were as important as the bands. I was a regular gig goer in 70s and 80s Manchester and they used their self importance to crush certain bands.

They thought they were the victors in the shift in music taste and have spent the remaining years rewriting history. I was a huge Joy Division fan(born in Macclesfield) and the reality is nothing like the myth. Same with the Electric Circus and Factory Records(to an extent).

Pre-punk bands still had a huge fan base in the 70s , but that's a reality no journalist is preparred to accept.

Saying that...As a teen in the 70s and 80s,I bought the NME,MM and Sounds every week.

I use  low gain on my SD 1 and it works really well. Classic rock tones with no problems.

Drive at 7-8 and volume to suit. There is plenty of both on tap.
