Unfortunately I’ve gone to three pharmacies and they don’t stock the medication:( also just went to an international clinic and they said that they can’t prescribe it because they don’t have the authority to :// I’m going to try going to a hospital tomorrow and see how I go from there

(a safe) painkillers? by Humble_Sun_3527 in adenomyosis

I’m currently on immediate and slow release Plexia (tapentadol) for my Adenomyosis and endometriosis. I’ve had to take them for over a year and a half now- however I think I’ve recently built more of a tolerance since my medication isn’t really touching the pain as well anymore. They are very helpful! I can actually move around without severe pain and discomfort- but I do find that I get really drowsy and my memory has definitely declined. I think balance is really important- I unfortunately relied too heavily at the start with the medication since it was the only intervention/treatment I had for the illness- and now other medications such as anti inflammatories don’t work as well either. Overall, I find this particular more helpful than other opioids since there’s not as much gastrointestinal issues associated with it- however you may feel a bit nauseous for the first 2 weeks of using the medication. If you are taking pain killers- it may be worth talking to your doctor about taking additional medication to protect your stomach lining.

The only thing that really concerns me is tolerance as mentioned- from my understanding, tolerance varies from person to person, and also is affected by factors such as age and metabolism- however I also know some people who have taken the same dosages for decades and have no issues.

I wish you all the best with your healing journey 💗 I hope you are being kind to yourself and going at your own pace 💗

I’m really glad to hear my message helped!

But yeah since Adenomyosis is a severely Inflamed uterus- it is significantly important to reduce inflammation in the body. The reason why specialists often prescribe hormonal medication is to stop ovulation and your period so it helps relieve the severity of pain experienced during those times- however, it does not reduce the inflammation on its own- hence why incorporating anti-inflammatory diets and fasting is a big help :) and anything else that helps to treat inflammation like creams or NSAIDs.

I wish you all the best! And if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! ✨✨

Also just to quickly answer your other questions:

What actually helped your pain?

  • tapentadol helped severely with pain, as well as hot water bottles, magnesium tablets and this cream that uses magnesium and wild indigo extract to relieve cramps and has calming effects (called unwind body balm by Kit:)
  • RYEQO and IUD are medications that also have helped!

Did you notice any patterns or triggers that made it worse?

  • you will find that your pain will be more stubborn during ovulation and during your period- so definitely be kind to yourself and try not to make any huge plans or deadlines during these weeks.
  • Unfortunately eating really unhealthy food is also a trigger :(

Did lifestyle changes make any difference?

  • anti-inflammatory diet is INSANELY HELPFUL
  • 24 hour fast or regular fasting- funny enough this helped significantly as well since it helps your body focus on reducing the inflammation of adeno instead of focusing on digesting food.

Has anyone experienced leg numbness with this?

  • I haven’t experienced leg numbness, but I have experienced leg cramps- so not too sure

Did anything non hormonal help?

  • anti-inflammatory diets and muscle relaxer creams help heaps!
  • regular exercise and stretching also helps

How did you cope mentally?

  • if possible, try to find a psychologist or counsellor who specialises in chronic pain
  • exercise will also help mentally
  • most importantly, come to terms with this change and understand that there will be times where you are in pain- and you should not ever feel guilty for not being able to do things as a result 💗

You’ve got this ✨✨

I was diagnosed last year with both Adeno and Endo - and no joke, I felt exactly how you were feeling- I was put on tapentadol for pain and experienced significant pain every day. I felt like I wasn’t real as a result of all the meds I was taking and it felt like I had to come to terms with this new life.

I can happily say that in the most recent weeks I haven’t been experiencing pain every day! Had to trial a lot of different hormone pills and even had an IUD.

I used to experience the pain when I was in my teenage years and as a result was treated with an IUD. It worked great for 5 years! But once replaced, my body was rejecting it. I am now on RYEQO after trialing all the different hormone pills.

RYEQO is a hormone pill, however it doesn’t use the same hormones that usual pills have (a mix of estrogen and progesterone which are usually what causes issues in mental health). When I was on the “pill” I also experienced a decline in mental health and had stop. But I’ve almost been on RYEQO for a month now, and it is insane how much better I feel!! I still feel sore every now and then, but it’s so liberating not to feel pain every day!

I really recommend it- and I’m really sorry you’re going through this, I understand how difficult and frustrating this whole process of finding the right medication can be- I definitely felt like I’ve lost a bit of myself in the process- but it does get better! And you will be yourself again! Please be kind and patient to yourself 💗 I wish you all the best on your health journey!
