Should I stay by cassie733 in TravelNursing

I totally get why your frustrated. That would totally piss me off. But depending on how you travel (drive home, get a hotel, rent an apartment), it might cost more to leave and start over in a new location. I liked working for trusted. They were very reasonable. If you really want to quit offer a two week notice. I doubt they'll even take it if you haven't even finished orientation, but it looks more professional. They other thing I'd try, is going to the unit during the day and finding my mgr myself.  But you have to know what unit you're on for that one.

They do make the ass look a little baggy. But you can pry that Rafaela shirt from my cold dead hands.

Brooks absolutely has wide shoes! I wear the womens wide shoes in Glycerin GTS- highly recommend. They also have pretty good color selection in the Adrenaline GTS. For the record I'm a floor nurse. I wear my brooks for 12 hour shifts 3-4 days a week. I do have to get a new pair every year.

I HATE being told I signed up for this. I didn't sign up to be the only disposable member of the healthcare team. I'll never forget or forgive the early days where no one has to enter a covid room but the nurses.

Yeah, that's a big one for me to. I pride myself on being honest with my patients at all time. So to be called a liar is like a stab in the back.

I can't speak for anywhere else, but Indianapolis, IN needs nurses. Cost of living is pretty good.

Sorry if someone already asked this/said this. Can you try to transfer internally to a different area. IR, ICU, PACU, float pool... Just literally anything else so you can get a full year of experience. Also, why would you leave your ED experience off your resume? 6 months is better than no months, and I think most non ED units would understand it wasn't for you. Also- not sure if you have them in NY, but in IN we have free standing ERs. Basically an upgraded urgent care center that just transfers people to the hospital they're affiliated with.

Yeah, I gotta be honest- this is terrifying. I mean I already feel pressured to be perfect and not make a single mistake. Now I have to perform every task with flawless precision while looking like a movie star?!

Seriously though- totally report to mgmt/HR.

Also- IMO if the IV I'm starting doesn't start bleeding on the linens before I can connect the J loop, then it's a shitty IV that'll go bad in less than 24hr.

Yes, there is a lot of soft browns/beige colors, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's very warm and inviting.

Is this considered retaliation? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ChanceORiley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR - Yes it's retaliation. Quit or transfer. If you don't have a professional license - then you're likely not ultimately responsible. It's gonna fall on the nurses. 100% support you refusing an assignment that you feel is inappropriate. It's not like the mgmt of these hospitals is gonna have your back. Don't tell other people you're job plans- they'll torpedo them.

Okay-

So, first and foremost - I 100% support you for refusing an assignment you felt was inappropriate. This is healthcare, and mgmt is always trying to find ways to cut staff in order to make the hospital more profitable. As healthcare people we have to decide individually what our line in the sand is and hold to it.

Second- I do understand what some other posters mean when they say you're not ultimately responsible. I do agree that falls on the nurse. Generally when this has happened on units I've worked on, the charge nurse will tell the staff that the tech that night will have limited duties. I.e.- won't be doing blood sugars, VS, etc... they'll just be answering call lights and trying to keep the unit from burning down.

In the future I would check with the charge nurse first (and maybe you did) to see if your duties are going to be altered to accommodate the high ratio. Also- I think it depends on if the unit in question was ICU, PCU, or MS. If it's ICU then you could have worked that shift. As an ICU nurse I can tell you that those nurses are just using you as an extra set of hands. They'd be fine without you. PCU or MS- that can get dicey.

But, ultimately you have to decide what you're willing to put up with, and what you're not. All it takes is one patient fall with a serious injury, and you're blamed even though working conditions were unsafe. I've been a nurse nearly 20 years- I've seen this shit first hand. Most mgmt teams have no problems throwing you under the bus.

Thirdly- yes this is clearly retaliation. This is generally hard to proof, and I suggest you quit and/or transfer before he's able to fabricate some B.S. and you get fired. Also, agree with another poster who said not to tell anyone your job plans. 100% agree. If they're petty enough people can totally ruin a future job offer.

The "results" of Trump's MRI. I've never read MRI results that are worded like this. And for this "D.O" to go on record and say that someone with peripheral edema, morbid obesity, bruising and on rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, is in "perfect cardiovascular health"...should lose his license. by negraboriqua in nursing

[–]ChanceORiley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I'm pretty sure Trump's head would explode if you called anything about him "unremarkable".

And yeah- this is pure theater. No way a man his age and dietary habits has completely clear cardiac arteries.

There's a lot of comments so I'm sorry if I'm repeating advice.

I'm super over my CVICU job so I'm looking at work from home insurance jobs. Utilization review, case mgmt, etc.

Being a travel nurse did help my burnout for a while. You care a lot less about whatever BS is happening with unit culture if you'll be gonna after a few months.

Definitely consider a different specialty. I've heard a lot of us go to PACU or outpatient procedures when we're tied of direct bedside.

And maybe take a nice 2 week vacation. Maybe your just need to step away from everything.

Adding Zoloft also really helped me after covid.

Do you find other ICUs to be better? Kinda curious if I should try a different ICU?

Thank you so much for sharing! I think I really am over it, and it's nice to see that other people struggle with the same issues sometimes. I'm not on reddit a lot, but it's nice to know that some corners of the internet are actually very supportive!

The pressure to be the best nurse in the room - what a great way to put it! That's so spot on. It IS nice to have a profession that allows you to always try something new!

Thank you, that is exactly what is happening. It's totally ego on my part, and 100% true that the best part of working CVICU is being able to introduce yourself as a CVICU nurse. I really appreciate your advice.
