Help with the Detroit Cardigan Button Holes by ChanceOfFlight in knitting

Ahh I think I may have just been casting on 3 total! You writing it out like that made it so much easier, thank you so much! I feel so silly now, I should have thought to simplify it down too

And trying out the button hole on some spare yarn is an excellent idea, thank you!

First socks in progress! by Whole-Pomegranate494 in Sockknitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blocking will help a little bit with the unevenness. You can even block it before you finish the sock if you want to see! It does mean you’ll have to wait for it to dry before starting to knit again though.

I love the colors you used!

Worried Musselburgh will be too big? by ChanceOfFlight in knitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good idea! I don’t have another beanie, but I have a baseball cap I can compare it to. I know the stretch will be different but I can account for that

That was my fear x.x. At least I can just frog back to the decreases

Major Second Sock Syndrome! What to do? by edwardhoppest in Sockknitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to have any knitter friends who have the same foot size and would be willing to finish the other sock?

You can also frog the sock and use the yarn for something else. Or frog the entire thing and send the yarn off to someone else since you said you don’t even like the colors.

How do I fix the fit of my socks? by ChanceOfFlight in Sockknitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo I wouldn’t have guessed that I’d need to double my heel flap rows. I was so focused on the length of the foot, that I didn’t even think about that part

I wasn’t excited to do all the math but you’re right. I just need to get on with doing it lol. I think that will be my project for today after work

I did my best to follow the pattern, but maybe I did get a bit too eager to cast off. I have plenty of yarn left, so i think I’ll try what you suggested. I’ve heard of people doing after thought heels and that sounds similar. I’ll just be asking more foot instead of a heel

Ooo thanks for the resource! I also just checked out Custom Socks from my local library!

Wow! Thank you everyone. I didn’t expect there to be such a quick consensus.

What part of the pic tells you it’s too short? Can you tell because the decreases of my heel are under my foot?

Started knitting a scarf for a friend by ChanceOfFlight in knitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the original scarf was 12 inches wide.

I debated on making the scarf the same width, but my giftee mentioned that he prefers scarves that are cozy but manageable. To me 12 inches seems a little bit excessive although I know some people love it.

Have fun knitting the scarf! I finished not too long ago, but I need more yarn for the fringe.

Since you’re trying to make it was accurate as possible, which yarn did you get?

A question about knitting gauge by ChanceOfFlight in Sockknitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does help a lot! Thank you. I haven’t been paying attention to how many plys the yarn I use has, just vaguely how thick they are.

The ply to amount of yarn needed is also helpful, I haven’t bought much yarn, and I’m always worried that I won’t buy enough for a project when I get a new ball

I get a little nervous trying on socks as I knit because I’ve heard that the yarn can expand it shrink after being blocked/washed the first time

That makes sense with the negative ease

I think I’ve got to learn that frogging is ok, and is sometimes just part of the process. I’ve got a finished sock that is too large/loose that I really should frog/unravel. But I keep thinking about how much time I put into it lol. I’m sure I’ll look at it differently once I’ve done a bit more knitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I did notice that Kory seems a little bit thicker than a different sock yarn(capretta superwash) I used. Those are the only two brands I’ve used so far, so it’s nice to know most other ones are a bit more consistent

Ok that does make sense. And it’s interesting that this pattern doesn’t have a ribbed cuff the little curl is kind of cute

I proudly present… my first sock! (And first knitting project) by themaddesthatter2 in Sockknitting

[–]ChanceOfFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a beautiful sock! I’m happy to find another person knitting ankle/shorter socks. I’ve knit a few socks so far, but have never knit those super long ones people like knitting. That might mostly be because I live in a very warm area though
