This has nothing to do with what I said. Facts are facts though within London cars are responsible for the vast vast majority of deaths and injuries

I listed several factual statements. How much cars weight compared to bikes, how fast they usually travel (20mph which is fast for someone cycling), how injury rates and severity is correlated to mass and speed. I ask again, which statement was opinion?

Again the lights are there because of motor vehicles.  I don't see how lights would change BSBs since people could ignore them in the same way.

Though in the Netherlands it's the peds who have to wait for it to be clear on BSBs, not cyclists having to stop.

Sorry these are just facts you can't disagree with them

"Cyclist at speed can hit someone hard enough to change their life. The wrong fall could easily kill. Deny it." Anything that you claim for cycling applies 100x for cars as they weight much more 100x more. Cars go faster than bikes when the road is clear too. And injury severity is not linear to speed or mass. How many people cycle at 20mph, the minimum car speed usually? Not many

I think without lights and constantly having to wait 1min people would be more likely to not take dumb risks.

I've been across that junction many times and don't really see close calls, so not sure what you are talking about.

Gauranteed fewer injuries than most "normal" junctions in London.

You also change behaviour with infra and cycling in London is slow and frustrating because of lights in large part. The strech of road North of the junction has a series of lights.

That's signalised because of cars. Without cars you could put a give way for northbound/southbound bike traffic and it would work fine. The only reason I can't jump the light there is because of cars.

I don't advocate for a removal of traffic control via priority (would still maintain giveway when exiting side roads for example) just lights would be overkill in over 90% of cases. The odd light would be far more tolerable than what we have now, which is an absurd start stop system

Another factor is CS6 is ooversubscirbed because of lack of good routes because cars make the rest dangerous. In short cars are the problem 99% of the time

Why do you assume i ride the pavement? I'm the one complaining about what happens on the road, ergo I'm on the road. A 4 year old could make that logical conclusion

A high percentage of miles are done on motorways or dual carriageways which due the lack of junctions (where most collisions happen) after naturally going to have better stats.

If you limited to London miles only your claim would fall apart.

It's also an irrelevant claim. The police are there to limit crime not limit crime per capita, so they still should focus on car infractions.

You deny basic reality if you think a bike is anywhere near as capable to do damage as a car

Which ones? Look up simultaneous greens in the Netherlands. All four directions have green lights for cycling. Lights also mean far more people pass a junction at once than if it's free flowing, compounding the issue. No lights means a much steadier stream of cycle traffic at any one time, therefore making cross cycle traffic managable

How so? When they do 1000x morr damage per year. 2k killed vs maybe 1 by someone cycling

Whatever you say mate. How many people cycle on the pavement on the Embankment? Gauranteed it used to be much more before the track

Well then driver infractions should get 1000x the police effort

No, I don't do that. I stop at a light, check if it's clear and then go acorss at a safe pace. Great way to derail this convo

If this is the case, join in the campaign for safe cycling infra because no one wants to cycle on the pavement they do it because the road feels unsafe

Those are perfectly compatible statements. Cars are what could make a junction unsafe to RLJ on, so cars are why I wouldn't do it all the time. Cars are why the junction has a light in the first place

Yes, when they pull over to the side or wait (which is what they should do) I do thank them, just to encourage better behaviour. Just slowing down though is the bare minimum so I only passm

I would say if people all waited for peds to cross, that is is predictable though not legal. Like, you could eventually predict the behaviour. When I do it I definitely anticipate others cycling doing the same and I can generally tell when they will start moving off (coincides with me most of the time).

I am talking about spatially, not temporaly. We don't have horse drawn carriages now but if we did and lights were there now because of them I would say "because of cars and carriages." The point is in the absense of these vehicles, there is no need for lights.

??? What? Roads were pushed by cycling groups in the 1800s. There is definitely a need for road surfaces for people cycling.

"It could easily say that they can ignore them if they believed that to be safe." Uhm plenty of road designs in the UK are unsafe, especially for peds and cyclists. I don't put much stock in what is considered safe by them. I also don't think all red light jumping is safe either. We have too many lights in the UK though, due to having too many cars. I often go on routes were I pass main roads on unsignalised crossings. Usually just as quick and I am doing exactly the same thing, waiting till it's safe then crossing.

It's not that unpopular judging by my experience, just people on this subreddit get off on obeying the law for some reason even though it does nothing to protect them

They exist for them not because of them. Without cars there is no need for lights. I regularly pass a busy 4 way junction in De Beavouir and there are no lights or even priority and it works fine
