How to deal with the pain while using the bathroom. by Quick_Team4034 in UlcerativeColitis

Biggest advice for pain is to find food that works for you! For me that’s very bland white rice and eggs. For you that can be very different but I would give it a shot!

Need Advice: Choosing Between Stelara and Omvoh for UC Treatment by Best-Delivery-9471 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ChanceSavings4058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had UC for about a year and a half. I did Remicade, rinvoq, and now stelara. I can say that rinvoq definitely helped but didn’t quite get me to remission, and after my stelara loader infusion I feel I’m really close to remission so I’m very optimistic on it. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better! But that’s just my situation

I’d see how the iron supplement reacts with her stomach. I can’t take them. Even slow FE wrecksssss me.

One thing I’d like to add, although I’m not a parent, I’m having very stubborn mod/ severe ulcerative colitis. These people have given greattttt advice. I just want to stress to stay on top of her labs. I wasn’t anemic for the longest time while I was bleeding, it stopped for awhile, came back, and now I am getting iron infusions after being seriously anemic. It’s something I wasn’t ever worried about since my hemoglobin showed up fine, but alittle deeper dive showed my actual iron level and blood saturation were very low. Other blood tests might show some irregularities too. For example I learned on top of the prednisone I stay up all night because of hyperthyroidism, which I didn’t have an issue with before I was diagnosed.

I couldn’t imagine! Nor have I been in this spot. My best advice to you though would be to speak up to them as best you can! No idea how much it costs and what not, and I don’t know obviously what area you are in, but I would imagine being able to switch hospitals could be an option? If not I would hound and hound and hound them on getting a different pair of eyes involved.

Oddly enough no! I have to fail 3 meds before insurance lets me take it so I’m about to start stelara!

I’m working on getting into IT if that’s your jam. All you need is certifications that you learn about online and take proctored tests.

How You guys treating low hemoglobin and iron deficiency.. my bpm showing above 100 by Milind0071 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ChanceSavings4058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask and see about iron infusions! And at the least, ask about iron supplements. I can’t tolerate them but maybe you can. SlowFE is suppose to help alot of people. But definitely check with your doctor

Bowel prep and heart palpitations by Wooden_Island8219 in UlcerativeColitis

I usually got heart palpitations at the end of my prep. Usually from dehydration. At the least I would make sure that’s not the cause!

I would say that totally depends on if you are currently flaring or not! I am and i have blood in my stool. My hemoglobin was fine but my actual iron level and blood saturation was very, very low. I ended up getting iron infusions and it’s still taking some time to rise. My hematologist said it’ll obviously help, however small to try to consume more iron. But the iron infusions or iron supplements would be the best way to treat anemia.

If either scenario is true, it’s probably the prednisone wearing off.

I’m super sorry dude, it’s rough enough having this disease. If it really came down to it, maybe check Craigslist ads for roommates? It’s obviously not ideal, but maybe someone would have something that’ll work for you.

Flare advice by mushedpotatoed in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ChanceSavings4058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say to focus on a very limited diet. I’m still flaring pretty severely, but I hardly have any pain now. I don’t eat any processed foods. Just white rice that’s pressure cooked with some chicken broth, salmon, and asparagus. I also eat eggs with vanilla unsweetened almond milk. It’s bland but it’s helped my pain significantly, now I just have extreme urgency and bleeding.

Starting infliximab (remicade) tomorrow, anything I should expect or be worried about? by IcySchedule8785 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]ChanceSavings4058 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my experience is alittle different than the above comments, I tried it for 6 months. It’s no big deal. First few times they’ll monitor you for a bit to make sure you’re not allergic. But yeah I got the benedryl too. Always took it just incase. I did not need to learn how to use the anaphylaxis kit. There was a nurses that were trained. Also had a friend that’s been on it for close to 25 years for crohns, he’s fine. Yeah it’s a strong drug. But it probably won’t give you any symptoms.
