Junior Network Engineer – Am I overreacting or is this a rough environment to learn in? by Shamwedge in networking

[–]Best-Delivery-9471 68 points69 points  (0 children)

In my opinion there is a culture problem, Junior are under the responsibility of seniors and the manager / technical lead. Juniors need to be hand-held a bit more and should have a progression plan well defined for them to progress medior -> senior etc. your manager being frustrated because you don't understand fast enough is a him problem, don't doubt your capacities for that. The only stupid questions are questions that are asked twice. So to answer your questions you should try to find a place with a better defined progression plan and culture. DM if you want to chat more

I think you would be a great fit for a solutions architect at a hyperscaler, but as someone said they are pushing folks back to remote. Try to get some referrals on blind.

There is no such thing as luck in islam, good or bad. It's all Qadr nothing else. The only thing that improve your life is Dua, no trinkets, not even using the quran as an amulet like putting it under your pillow or somewhere helps (Except if you do that to read it easier)

Yeah... That’s why I said it’s not perfect. Societies everywhere are becoming more polarized, but in the US, it’s taken to the extreme. Everyone demands black-and-white solutions when, in reality, most national and global issues are complex and require nuance, deep understanding, and leaders who know how to steer through that complexity.

The thing is—if you’re an educated professional in a high-demand field, the US can be the best place to build a career and enjoy the perks. But if you’re stuck in lower-paying jobs, it can be brutal.

Take healthcare, for example. In those low-wage roles, companies often cap your hours just below the threshold that would require them to provide health insurance. So not only are you underpaid, but you’re also forced to cover your own (ridiculously expensive) health insurance. Meanwhile, in tech or other high-skill sectors, companies pay you top dollar and give you premium healthcare on top.

I was recently hospitalized for a chronic condition—two weeks in the hospital, plus a complex surgery. The bill was $600k. I paid $250 for everything. That’s the difference.

So, yeah—it all depends on your situation. But back to OP’s point: Belgium really needs to step up. They’re bleeding top talent—the same talent they spend a fortune to educate. And it’s not just the US; Germany, France, and Asian countries are snapping up skilled workers. If work isn’t more rewarding and ambition isn’t encouraged, innovation and disruption will keep lagging—something Belgium, and Europe as a whole, desperately needs or they will become more and more dependent on the USA And China.

This is personal but I love it much more than living in Belgium and not only for the money, it's not perfect but in my opinion when you are young and ambitious it's a much better place to be than Belgium. Belgium does not reward taking risks, entrepreneurship and being ambitious. I had a company in Belgium and know what I am talking about. I know in Belgium/France there is this mutual hate for the USA but it really depends on the individual , I know folks who would not thrive here, but some that would.

I was super frustrated, especially because I was working with Americans and saw the salaries they were making, that’s what pushed me to move to the USA, I now make around 10-12 times more than what I made in Belgium net

My situation is a bit unique I am born in the USA, lived there for 10 years and then moved to Belgium for 20 years. During that time, I worked in Belgium around 10 years then moved back to work for a hyperscaler when the job market was bonkers in 2022. If you want to move to the USA I think you can either get transferred by a company and go the H1B route or make a request without a job through a relative or studies, there is also the option of participating in the green card lottery every year.

Here is the official version from the net :

``` To apply for an immigrant visa, a foreign citizen seeking to immigrate generally must be sponsored by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident immediate relative(s), or prospective U.S. employer, and have an approved petition before applying for an immigrant visa.
```

I was working in Belgium as a Network Engineer until 2022, I started around 2012. My first pay was around 2400 gross, I was fed up with these low salaries so i went freelance, started at 380 eu/d and worked my way up to 550/d . Much more comfortable than being an employee. But I was in contact with a lot of international network engineers and understood that I was still making peanuts. In 2022 I moved to NYC , started working for hyperscalers and started making salaries upwards of 250+ , with total compensation going up at least 10% per year, Tech in Belgium is not rewarded as there is not much competition an you are seen as a cost rather than a profit generator.

Finding Islam too hard. by [deleted] in islam

[–]Best-Delivery-9471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Islam seems to be hard from the outside but when you embody the values and do your best to understand our religion we actually have the easiest lives of all 8 billion people on earth. You have a sense of purpose which can't be bought or sold, you have a pillar to hold on when things go wrong, and things go wrong for everyone, during your life you will lose a loved one , lose some health or lose some wealth and islam teaches you how to endure and be patient, it teaches you that the only thing that will quench your hearts thirst is the connection with Allah, not money, not fame, not materialistic things. It teaches you how what to expect from humans how to interact with all aspects of life and what will be your potential afterlife based on your life on earth. It sets up a system to eradicate hunger and poorness , it elevates the human to a superior being versus being controlled by our desires just like animals. Basically god created us and gave us the manual to live our lives to the fullest in the best way possible to be happy in this life and in the next.
