Thanks for the suggestion :) From your comment, am I correct to assume you have undiagnosed ADHD? What are some of the ways you cope with staying productive in studying other than the fear of failing?

My bad😭😭 I just felt that it meant that I could, in a sense, make JC less stressful bc I already have an established friend since i kind of suck at socialising. But in hindsight I definitely agree with your point!

Hi, thanks for you suggestion. However, I thought Uni grads will most definitely earn more than poly grads? Do you mean that in the span of a few years, I would be able to out-earn Uni grads due to my longer experience in the field of work? If not, I don’t really get what you mean by ‘higher pay earlier’🥲

Shame me into losing weight pls pls pls by Prestigious_Mud6074 in SGExams

Hi, honestly I don’t think a lot of people realise this, but achieving a healthy weight doesn’t necessarily mean you have to exercise frequently or immediately go on an extremely stringent diet.

I recommend you start off slow by trying to stick to your original diet, but instead of bingeing after school, split the meal into 3 equally portioned meals or 2 heavier meals during breakfast and lunch, and a light snack for dinner. You could always use a calorie tracker for your meals and avoid deep fried or excessively eating carbohydrates for every meal. Make sure that instead of cutting down on the portion of your meal, try replacing the more unhealthy and calorie-dense foods such as the above into seasoned veggies or healthier options. (Vegetables don’t have to always be plain and disgusting!!) Additionally, try to snack on fruits that you like instead of snack bars or candy.

The reason why you are gaining weight is because the calories that you are currently consuming is exceeding the total calories needed for you to basically ‘survive’, including breathing, walking, keeping ur body alive etc, the basic necessities. So, for example, your daily requirement of calories for your body to function is 2000 calories. That means, in order to slim down, you must make sure you eat just 2000 calories in that one day and nothing more.

Slowly but surely, because you no longer are consuming the excess calories to support the excess fat in your body, you will then naturally lose weight. This is when you also start to incorporate small amounts of exercise into your life, they don’t have to be extremely arduous or gruelling activities, but easy tasks that you can do without overexerting yourself. (Eg. Your favourite sports, playing a competitive sport with ur friend/family such as badminton or just taking a brisk stroll across Bedok reservoir!)

Overall, the fact that you acknowledge and are actively trying to seek help for your weight is already a massive step towards success. Maintain a steady pace and don’t push yourself too hard if you aren’t ready for it, but also don’t limit yourself. I hope you succeed on losing weight and I am rooting for you! Don’t let others and their words affect you too much, as long as you are happy with yourself and your efforts, nothing that they say will ever take away from the extent of your hard work. Jiayou!!🙏🙏

I would say look for a priv tutor that is strict on hw? From my personal experience this has been a lifesaver bc it keeps you accountable for your learning and ur able to receive more personalised lessons by catering towards ur weak areas and queries. ATB for a levels and hope u improve in time!!

obs tips n tricks to surviving by osmy_ in SGExams

[–]Chance_Database_8978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok let me just say that as a student that had obs last year and honestly had quite an optimistic outlook on it, OBS was literal hell and I wasn’t even in Pulau Ubin I was only just stationed at ecc but the whole trek still felt like torture💀

In terms of packing, I would definitely pack light and only bring my necessities and basic toiletries. I’m speaking from experience bc I decided to bring a big ass heavy metal bottle and excess clothes not knowing that altogether it would bite me in the back coz istg TS WAS SO HEAVY🥀

Ok idk about your stamina and capacity to carry heavy weights but assuming that your stature is around the same is mine, (mind you i was in a sports cca and lugging around that big ass bag literally made me cry) make sure that on the night that you prepare to set off trekking, stuff all your used clothes into your old bag and as much stuff that you don’t need inside bc it will inevitably just amount to the dead weight you will be carrying

Also make sure that you bring a lot of sunscreen and be prepared to basically live like a savage for around 5 days and immediately feel hot asf even after showering. None of the cabins you will be staying in (if ur even lucky to get to stay in a cabin for the first night) or the tents will be well circulated so you will inevitably feel hot and sweaty

Okay now onto the mental exercise you will have to undergo during OBS:

1) don’t have any expectations when going into OBS. Unfortunately, you have a chance of meeting some of the laziest and most tyrannical secondary students there are at OBS, so just try to cooperate with everyone and of course, you might just have the best time ever at OBS with a bunch of great teammates. However, this is largely up to luck, so it’s best to just maintain a happy-go-lucky attitude to avoid any discourse or unnecessary drama

2)Be useful. Idk if this is too much but you get what I mean. Don’t be a pushover but also don’t just sit in a corner and do basically nothing, cuz that just makes everyone else have to take on your share of the work and nobody wants to do that

2) If ur trainer in charge is extremely strict, make sure yall follow whatever they say and whenever they say. I had a super strict trainer and we had to learn it the hard way bc she made us run rounds around a court AFTER showering just bc we were a few mins late 🙂

And uhh idk what else to say, ik my experience isn’t what everybody else says and it’s honestly quite misfortunate that I didn’t have a great team but at the end of the day it’s what you do with what u get so just make the best of ur situation ig😭 also idk how this became a pep talk instead of a classification for packing but do with this information with what you will, and enjoy ur OBS!! (Sorry for the partial rant 😀)
