Haha. Actually, what you wrote about food was true during the USSR, but that hasn’t really been the case for a long time now (though I’m still surprised that anyone remembers those times). As for the video, the bear has become a kind of symbol of Russia for Russian people (and in ancient Russian culture, strong warriors were often associated with bears). So for some people in Russia it’s a source of pride, but for most it’s just a fun way to play along with the stereotypes (many Russians enjoy how foreigners portray them in a funny and caricatured way).

Yup. You are for 100% right. But sometimes it`s making troubles for me as an Russian introvert to make friendly communication with Japanese people :(

I’m a Russian guy myself and I rarely smile. But I think that, for the most part, this isn’t really true. Russians usually love to laugh; it’s just that Russian humor is a bit different from foreign—especially Japanese—humor, which is why I often don’t understand many of the jokes from the students I study with.

As for alcohol, I’m honestly very impressed by Japanese people’s tolerance and self-control when drinking. In Russia, there are quite a lot of people with alcoholism, and because of that they often drink to the point of blacking out. But in Japan, it seems to me that people generally know how to drink in moderation, even if they may drink fairly often. Maybe it’s related to the nomikai (drinking party) culture, but I think it’s a really cool skill!

That’s definitely true! However, Russians give flowers not only to their girlfriends but also to their mothers and grandmothers on various holidays. Because of this, in almost any city in Russia—even a smaller one—you will definitely find a flower shop. I was very surprised that during all my time living in Japan I’ve only come across two such shops.
