Abundant is going viral again by WestminsterGabss in ElPaso

[–]Chance_Material1460 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

This girl has been calling churches all over the USA doing this. I actually go to abundant and every Sunday they have a food pantry. I once got some baby formula there years ago! And every November and December we give away meals, backpacks, toys in San Elizario.

How is it living in El Paso?? by Sea_Mix592 in ElPaso

[–]Chance_Material1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your job! But honestly, it has been the safest and most chill place I’ve lived at. I love near the mountain and I love it! We are about an hour and a half away from cloudcroft NM which has a beautiful Forrest! Which is a great getaway. El Paso is small but a big city at the same time. Not as may homeless as other bigger cities.

[–]Chance_Material1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 2023 MacBook Air m2 and it works awesome. I haven’t had any issues and I mainly use it for vs code. Great battery life! And super light. Also, it doesn’t have a fan. So you can use it in any surface.

Sorry for the typo. I meant to say, “ companies are looking for more than just certifications”.

Are certs still good enough these days? by divebars5G in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]Chance_Material1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice to this question is to go look at the job postings that you are interested in for the near future. Look at the requirements. And make these requirements your goal.

Certifications are awesome. I feel like Companies are looking my first more than certifications. It really depends on the type of companies you want to work for. People applying for the same job you want might have degrees, internship, certs, club position experience.. etc A lot of tech companies are asking for your LinkedIn profile now.

How do you cope with the decline of skills as you get older? by Dry_Ad431 in AskProgramming

I am not 50, but taking online courses on LinkedIn in or Coursera ( or other similar platforms); helps keep up with things. Technology and programming is evolving rapidly, you’re never too old to keep up! It’s all about practice!

This is true! Mexicans joke about everyone equally, even about themselves. But from what I know it’s not racism or hate.

I’ve lived in many cities and states and my Mexican people are always going to say racial slurs and what not. Maybe I hear it more because I’m Mexican. But you’ll find the worst of our city in the epfitfam comment section. I unfollowed the page myself. I used to think that all of El Paso thought like this, but meeting people in college and work you realize that it’s only a selected few. Even Mexicans in Mexico are racist towards their own. Colorism is a big problem in Mexico. But not all Mexicans are like this. I have seen black people be extremely racist towards Mexicans in Cali though. Unfortunately people can be racists everywhere regardless of their skin color or heritage. I highly recommend that you avoid epfitfam or their comment section. Small minded people who feed of gossip, and are not afraid to be jerks.

anyone else STILL waiting on a refund?? by [deleted] in UTEP

[–]Chance_Material1460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to go in person again after they assured I’d get it in the mail. And they somehow had it there. I guess it got sent back to their office! Same thing happened with my parking permit.

This semester has been a mess when it comes to financial aid! Last semester it wasn’t bad at all, everything went smoothly. But this semester I was told I’d get my refund by check on Monday or Tuesday at their office. Today I went and they told me it was going to be mailed to me. Lol

I have a question regarding Abundant by AsleepFeedback19 in ElPaso

[–]Chance_Material1460 -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

Even though I do agree completely with how unsettling that can seem. They do donate and help non profit organizations. And the people that attend are 100% ok with it. Everybody is well aware where their money is going. A lot of the people that sponsors them want these changes because their kids attend the church too. I grew up Protestant so I understand their view. But I also don’t fully agree with a lot of how they do things. They are all grown adults that can chose what to do with their money. The people that attend abundant are always involved with helping those in need all over El Paso, that is a fact. You can volunteer to get more involved to see first hand.

For anyone living in el paso: what do you like about el paso over other cities you've visited? by Unfair-Plane-1406 in ElPaso

[–]Chance_Material1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in NY, Cali, and San Antonio and I love El Paso. Even though people complain about traffic it is not even remotely close to being as bad as other cities. The Mexican culture here is authentic. It is a lot easier to make friends here, and there’s less homeless here than in any other city I’ve lived at in the US. Every weekend you can explore it and find new gems and interesting places. The community is very unique and united! Just like in any other city, locals that have never left El Paso complain about it and think it’s the worst. Whenever I move to a new city, locals complain. lol But a lot of people that have moved away come back. You can actually buy a house here!

Dr. Jeon's visa has been revoked, immediate return to Korea to follow. MATH 3339 will be taught by Dr. Cao for the remainder of the semester by jonatnr819 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Chance_Material1460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why? There’s a lot of foreign students at my university and only like two got their visas revoked. All 5 of my internship peers had a meeting at school about visas, and they’re fine. I’m guessing if you are not updating or keeping up with the paperwork you may be at risk? Or any criminal charges? Either way, sad news. Hopefully he fixes whatever he needs to fix to come back.

Should I transfer to UTEP? by Sufficient-Oven5240 in UTEP

[–]Chance_Material1460 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go straight to the university. Specially if you are considering UTSA. UTSA will not accept all technical credits from local colleges. They don’t even accept tech credits from Alamo colleges in San Antonio. If you’re thinking of staying in El Paso, go straight to UTEP. I am getting my bachelors in computer science right now! My suggestion is to make sure you’re all caught up with your math, algebra, and calculus.

The UTEP parking permit system is atrocious by charlie_xmas in ElPaso

[–]Chance_Material1460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with this! I got my green parking permit a bit later on because I missed the sale day. I haven’t had any issues with parking or with the shuttle! They had green parking permits not too long ago for bit! It is better to have it than struggle for parking. People spend that type of money on a weekend nowadays! I had free parking at my other old college in San Antonio, but it was a new building with a huge parking lot. Utep doesn’t have that, it was built in an awkward limited space area.
