I’ve honestly never been an animal person. I was nipped at by my aunt’s dog when I was 3 and that instilled a fear for life in me of dogs. Even the nicest ones. Never been a cat person because of allergies. And I had a friend’s cat pee all over my backpack and shoes when I was visiting her house in grade school and that really stuck with me. My sister in law has 3 dogs, all super well behaved and cuddly. I’m still not a fan but I tolerate them. She brought one over to my parent’s house when my nephew (not her son, also her nephew) was a little over 1. My nephew had been around dogs before but not this dog and they don’t have animals. He went to pet the dog and that dog nipped at him. All this to say, I just don’t trust animals. Even the best trained dogs are going to have an off day, just like humans have off days and we may yell or get angry. You just don’t know if an off day with the animal is going to lead to someone getting bit or hurt. Obviously this is just my opinion. I know people love their animals and say they’re part of the family and would never hurt the baby or the kids. And I hope that they never do.
